तारा चालीसा
The Tara Chalisa is a traditional Hindu devotional hymn dedicated to Maa Tara, the second of the ten Mahavidyas in Shakta Tantra, worshipped as Nila Saraswati (Blue Saraswati) and closely associated with the Tarapith shakti-peetha in Birbhum, West Bengal, and its renowned devotee-saint Bamakhepa. This version -- cross-checked against multiple independently circulating sources -- contains 1 opening doha, 40 chaupais, and 2 closing dohas, totaling 43 verses. The text carries an internal poetic signature naming the devotee-composer as 'Ramakant', in the traditional bhanita style also seen in the Hanuman Chalisa.
तारा चालीसा माँ तारा को समर्पित एक पारंपरिक भक्ति स्तोत्र है, जो शाक्त तंत्र की दस महाविद्याओं में द्वितीय हैं और जिन्हें नील सरस्वती के रूप में पूजा जाता है। वे पश्चिम बंगाल के वीरभूमि स्थित तारापीठ शक्तिपीठ तथा उनके प्रसिद्ध भक्त संत बामाखेपा से विशेष रूप से जुड़ी हैं। यह संस्करण कई स्वतंत्र स्रोतों से मिलान कर सत्यापित है -- इसमें 1 आरंभिक दोहा, 40 चौपाइयाँ और 2 समापन दोहे हैं, कुल 43 पद। पद्य के भीतर रचनाकार भक्त का नाम 'रमाकांत' परंपरागत भणिता शैली में मिलता है, जैसा हनुमान चालीसा में भी देखा जाता है।
जय तारा जगदम्ब जै जय कृपाद्रष्टि की खान। कृपा करो सुरेश्वरि मोहि शरण तिहारी जान॥
jaya tārā jagadamba jai jaya kṛpādṛṣṭi kī khāna. kṛpā karo sureśvari mohi śaraṇa tihārī jāna.
जय हो तारा जगदम्बा की, जो करुणामयी दृष्टि की खान हैं। हे सुरेश्वरी, कृपा करें, मैंने आपकी शरण अपनी मानी है।
Glory, glory to Mother Tara, Jagadamba, the very mine of a compassionate glance -- O queen of the gods, show grace, for I have taken your refuge as my own.
माता तुम ही जगत की पालन हारी। तुम ही भक्तन कि भयहारी॥
mātā tuma hī jagata kī pālana hārī. tuma hī bhaktana ki bhayahārī.
हे माता, तुम ही संसार की पालनहार हो, तुम ही भक्तों का भय हरने वाली हो।
O Mother, you alone are the sustainer of the whole world; you alone remove the fear of your devotees.
तुम ही आदिशक्ति कलिका माइ। तुम ही सन्त जनों की सुखदायी॥
tuma hī ādiśakti kalikā māi. tuma hī santa janoṁ kī sukhadāyī.
तुम ही आदिशक्ति कालिका माता हो, तुम ही संत जनों को सुख देने वाली हो।
You are the primal Shakti, Mother Kalika herself; you are the giver of happiness to saints and seekers.
तारणी तरला तन्वी कहलाती। निज जनो की मंगलदाता कहलाती॥
tāraṇī taralā tanvī kahalātī. nija janoṁ kī maṅgaladātā kahalātī.
वह तारणी, चंचल और सुकुमार रूप वाली कहलाती है; वह अपने भक्तों की मंगलदाता कहलाती है।
She is called the ferrier across, swift and graceful in form; she is called the giver of well-being to her own people.
तारा तरुणा बल्लरी तुम ही। तीररुपातरी श्यामा तनुक्षीन हो तुम ही॥
tārā taruṇā ballarī tuma hī. tīrarupātarī śyāmā tanukṣīna ho tuma hī.
तुम ही तारा, तरुणी लता के समान हो; तुम ही श्यामा, क्षीण तनु वाली, तट तक ले जाने वाली हो।
You are Tara, youthful as a flowering vine; you are the dark-hued one, slender of form, who carries across to the shore.
बामा खेपा की पालन कर्त्री। माँ तुम ही कहलाती हो सिद्धि दात्री॥
Bāmā Khepā kī pālana kartrī. mā tuma hī kahalātī ho siddhi dātrī.
तुम ही बामाखेपा की पालनकर्त्री हो; माँ, तुम ही सिद्धि देने वाली कहलाती हो।
You are the nurturer and protector of Bamakhepa; you, Mother, are called the giver of spiritual accomplishment.
माता रूप तुम्हारा अति पावन। भक्तन की हो तुम मनभावन॥
mātā rūpa tumhārā ati pāvana. bhaktana kī ho tuma manabhāvana.
हे माता, तुम्हारा रूप अत्यंत पावन है; तुम भक्तों के मन को भाने वाली हो।
O Mother, your form is utterly sacred; you are beloved to the hearts of your devotees.
तुमसे इतर नहीं कछु दूजा। तुम हो सुर-नर मुनि जन की भूपा॥
tumase itara nahīṁ kachu dūjā. tuma ho sura-nara muni jana kī bhūpā.
तुमसे भिन्न कुछ भी दूसरा नहीं है; तुम देवता, मनुष्य और मुनियों की स्वामिनी हो।
There is nothing other or separate from you; you are the sovereign ruler of gods, men, and sages alike.
तुम ही माता नागलोक मे बसती। जन-जन की विपदा हरती॥
tuma hī mātā nāgaloka me basatī. jana-jana kī vipadā hartī.
तुम ही माता नागलोक में भी बसती हो; तुम हर जन की विपदा हरने वाली हो।
You, Mother, dwell even in the serpent-world; you remove the distress of every single person.
तुम ही माता कहलाती प्रलयंकारी। सकल त्रैलोक्य की भयहारी॥
tuma hī mātā kahalātī pralayaṅkārī. sakala trailokya kī bhayahārī.
तुम ही माता प्रलयंकारी कहलाती हो; तुम समस्त त्रैलोक्य का भय हरने वाली हो।
You, Mother, are called the one who brings about dissolution; you remove the fear of all three worlds.
माँ तुमने ही शिव प्राण बचाये। तुम्हरे सुमिरन से विष पार ना पाए॥
mā tumane hī Śiva prāṇa bacāye. tumhare sumirana se viṣa pāra nā pāe.
माँ, तुमने ही शिव के प्राण बचाए; तुम्हारे स्मरण से विष भी पार नहीं पाता।
Mother, it was you who saved Shiva's very life; through remembrance of you, no poison can prevail.
दस महाविद्या क्रम मे तुम आती। द्वितीय विद्या तुम कहलाती॥
dasa mahāvidyā krama me tuma ātī. dvitīya vidyā tuma kahalātī.
तुम दस महाविद्याओं के क्रम में आती हो; तुम द्वितीय विद्या कहलाती हो।
You come in the order of the ten Mahavidyas; you are called the second Vidya.
माता तुम ही सरस्वती कहलाती। तुम ही हो ज्ञान की अधिष्ठात्री॥
mātā tuma hī Sarasvatī kahalātī. tuma hī ho jñāna kī adhiṣṭhātrī.
माता, तुम ही सरस्वती कहलाती हो; तुम ही ज्ञान की अधिष्ठात्री हो।
Mother, you are also called Saraswati; you alone are the presiding power of knowledge.
नील सरस्वती है नाम तिहारो। चहूँ लोक फैलो जगमग उजियारो॥
Nīla Sarasvatī hai nāma tihāro. cahū loka phailo jagamaga ujiyāro.
नील सरस्वती तुम्हारा नाम है; तुम्हारा जगमगाता उजियारा चारों लोकों में फैला है।
Blue Saraswati is your name; your shimmering radiance spreads through all the worlds.
श्मशान प्रिय श्मशाना कहलाती। एकजटा जगदम्बा कहलाती॥
śmaśāna priya śmaśānā kahalātī. Ekajaṭā Jagadambā kahalātī.
श्मशान प्रिय होने से वह श्मशाना कहलाती है; वह एकजटा जगदम्बा कहलाती है।
Fond of the cremation ground, she is called Shmashana; she is called Ekajata Jagadamba.
माता शिव तुम्हरी गोद विराजे। मुण्डमाल गले मे अति साजे॥
mātā Śiva tumhrī goda virāje. muṇḍamāla gale me ati sāje.
माता, शिव तुम्हारी गोद में विराजते हैं; मुण्डमाल तुम्हारे गले में अति सुशोभित है।
Mother, Shiva rests in your lap; a garland of skulls beautifully adorns your neck.
बाम मार्ग पूजन तुम्को अति प्यारा। शरणागत की तुम हो सहारा॥
Bāma mārga pūjana tumako ati pyārā. śaraṇāgata kī tuma ho sahārā.
बाम मार्ग की पूजा तुम्हें अति प्रिय है; शरणागत का तुम ही सहारा हो।
Worship by the Vama, left-hand Tantric, path is very dear to you; you are the support of all who take refuge in you.
वीरभूमि कि माता तुम वासिनी। तुम ही अघोरा तुम ही विलासिनी॥
Vīrabhūmi ki mātā tuma vāsinī. tuma hī Aghorā tuma hī vilāsinī.
वीरभूमि की माता, तुम वहीं वासिनी हो; तुम ही अघोरा और तुम ही विलासिनी हो।
You dwell as Mother in Birbhum; you are Aghora, and you are also the playful one.
तुम्हरो चरित जगत आधारा। तुमसे ही माँ चहुँ दिशि उजियारा॥
tumharo carita jagata ādhārā. tumase hī mā cahu diśi ujiyārā.
तुम्हारा चरित्र संसार का आधार है; तुमसे ही माँ, चारों दिशाओं में उजाला है।
Your deeds are the very foundation of the world; from you alone, Mother, comes light in every direction.
तुम्हरो चरित सदा मै गाउं। तुमहि मात रूप मे पाऊं॥
tumharo carita sadā maiṁ gāuṁ. tumahi māta rūpa me pāūṁ.
तुम्हारा चरित्र सदा मैं गाऊँ; तुम्हें ही मातृरूप में पाऊँ।
May I always sing of your deeds; may I ever find you in the form of Mother.
चिंता सगरी हरो महतारी। तुम्हरो आसरा जगत मे भारी॥
cintā sagarī haro mahatārī. tumharo āsarā jagata me bhārī.
चिंता सारी हरो महतारी; तुम्हारा आसरा संसार में अत्यंत भारी है।
Remove all my worries, O great Mother; your support in this world is immense.
तुरीया तरला तीव्रगामिनी तुम ही। नीलतारा उग्रा विषहरी भी तुमही॥
turīyā taralā tīvragāminī tuma hī. Nīlatārā ugrā viṣaharī bhī tumahī.
तुरीया अवस्था की चंचल, तीव्रगामिनी तुम ही हो; नीलतारा, उग्रा और विषहरी भी तुम ही हो।
You are the swift one of turiya, the transcendent state, ever swift-moving; you are Nilatara, fierce, and also the remover of poison.
तुम परा परात्परा अतीता कहलाती। वेदारम्भा वेदातारा कहलाती॥
tuma parā parātparā atītā kahalātī. Vedārambhā Vedātārā kahalātī.
तुम परा, परात्परा और अतीता कहलाती हो; तुम वेदारंभा, वेदातारा कहलाती हो।
You are called the Supreme, beyond the supreme, and transcendent; you are called the origin of the Vedas, Vedatara.
अचिन्तयामिताकार गुणातीता। बामाखेपा रक्षिता बामाखेपा पूजिता॥
acintayāmitākāra guṇātītā. Bāmākhepā rakṣitā Bāmākhepā pūjitā.
तुम अचिन्त्य, अमित आकार वाली, गुणातीता हो; तुम बामाखेपा की रक्षिता, बामाखेपा की पूजिता हो।
You are inconceivable, boundless in form, beyond the three gunas; you are the protector of Bamakhepa, worshipped by Bamakhepa.
अघोरपूजिता नेत्रा नेत्रोत्पन्ना तुमहि। दिव्या दिव्यज्ञाना भी तुमहि॥
aghorapūjitā netrā netrotpannā tumahi. divyā divyajñānā bhī tumahi.
अघोरपूजिता, नेत्रा, नेत्रोत्पन्ना तुम ही हो; दिव्या, दिव्यज्ञाना भी तुम ही हो।
Worshipped in the Aghora tradition, you are vision itself, born from the eye; you are the divine one, and divine knowledge too.
सब जन मन्त्र रूप तुमहि माँ जपहि। त्रीं स्त्रीं रूप का ध्यान सब धरहिं॥
saba jana mantra rūpa tumahi mā japahi. trīṁ strīṁ rūpa kā dhyāna saba dharahiṁ.
सब जन तुम्हें मंत्र रूप में जपते हैं, माँ; सब त्रीं स्त्रीं रूप का ध्यान धरते हैं।
All people chant you, Mother, in mantra form; all hold meditation on the form of Trim and Strim.
मुझ पर माँ कृपाल हो जाओ। अपनी कृपा का अमिय जल बरसाओ॥
mujha para mā kṛpāla ho jāo. apanī kṛpā kā amiya jala barasāo.
मुझ पर माँ कृपालु हो जाओ; अपनी कृपा का अमृत-जल बरसाओ।
Become gracious upon me, Mother; shower the nectar-water of your grace.
काली पुत्र निशदिन तुम्हे मनावे। निश-वासर माँ तुमको ध्यावे॥
Kālī putra niśadina tumhe manāve. niśa-vāsara mā tumako dhyāve.
काली पुत्र निशदिन तुम्हें मनाता है; निश-वासर माँ तुम्हें ध्याता है।
Kali's child beseeches you night and day; night and day he meditates upon you, Mother.
खडग खप्पर तुम्हरे हस्त विराजे। खष्टादश तुम्हरी कळा अति साज़े॥
khaḍaga khappara tumhare hasta virāje. khaṣṭādaśa tumhrī kaḷā ati sāje.
खड्ग और खप्पर तुम्हारे हाथों में सुशोभित हैं; तुम्हारी अठारह कलाएँ अति सुसज्जित हैं।
A sword and skull-bowl adorn your hands; your eighteen powers are beautifully arrayed.
तुमने माता अगम्य चरित दिखलायो। अक्षोभ ऋषि को मान बढ़ायो॥
tumane mātā agamya carita dikhalāyo. Akṣobha ṛṣi ko māna baḍhāyo.
तुमने माता अगम्य चरित्र दिखाया; अक्षोभ ऋषि का मान बढ़ाया।
You revealed, Mother, an unfathomable act; you raised the honor of the sage Akshobhya.
माता तारा मोरे हिय आय विराजो। नील सरस्वती बन साजो॥
mātā Tārā more hiya āya virājo. Nīla Sarasvatī bana sājo.
माता तारा मेरे हृदय में आ विराजो; नील सरस्वती बनकर सजो।
Mother Tara, come and dwell in my heart; settle there adorned as Blue Saraswati.
तुम ही भक्ति भाव की अमित सरूपा। अखिल ब्रह्माण्ड की भूपा॥
tuma hī bhakti bhāva kī amita sarūpā. akhila brahmāṇḍa kī bhūpā.
तुम ही भक्ति भाव की अमित स्वरूपा हो; तुम अखिल ब्रह्माण्ड की स्वामिनी हो।
You are the boundless embodiment of devotional feeling itself; you are the sovereign of the entire cosmos.
बिन तुम्हरे नहि मोक्ष अधिकार। तुमसे है माता जगत का बेङा पार॥
bina tumhare nahi mokṣa adhikāra. tumase hai mātā jagata kā beṛā pāra.
तुम्हारे बिना मोक्ष का अधिकार नहीं है; तुमसे ही माता संसार की नैया पार है।
Without you there is no claim to liberation; through you alone, Mother, the world's vessel crosses over.
आकर मात मोहि दरस दिखाओ। मम जीवन को सफल बनाओ॥
ākara māta mohi darasa dikhāo. mama jīvana ko saphala banāo.
आकर माता मुझे दर्शन दिखाओ; मेरे जीवन को सफल बनाओ।
Come, Mother, and grant me a vision of yourself; make my life fruitful.
रमाकांत है तुम्हारि शरण मे। दीजो माता मोहि जगह चरण मे॥
Ramākānta hai tumhāri śaraṇa me. dījo mātā mohi jagaha caraṇa me.
रमाकांत तुम्हारी शरण में है; दीजो माता मुझे स्थान अपने चरणों में।
Ramakant has taken your refuge; grant me, Mother, a place at your feet.
जो मन मन्दिर मे तुमहि बसावे। उसका कोई बाल न बांका कर पावे॥
jo mana mandira me tumahi basāve. usakā koī bāla na bāṅkā kara pāve.
जो अपने मन-मंदिर में तुम्हें बसाता है, उसका कोई बाल भी बांका नहीं कर पाता।
Whoever houses you in the temple of their mind -- no one can cause them the slightest harm.
तुम्ही आदि शक्ति जगदीशा। ब्रह्मा विष्णु शिव सब नवायें शीशा॥
tumhī Ādi Śakti Jagadīśā. Brahmā Viṣṇu Śiva saba navāyeṁ śīśā.
तुम ही आदि शक्ति जगदीशा हो; ब्रह्मा, विष्णु, शिव सब तुम्हें शीश नवाते हैं।
You alone are the primordial power, ruler of the universe; Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva all bow their heads to you.
तुम ही चराचर जगत कि पालनहारी। तुम ही प्रलय काल मे नाशनकारी॥
tuma hī carācara jagata ki pālanahārī. tuma hī pralaya kāla me nāśanakārī.
तुम ही चराचर जगत की पालनहारी हो; तुम ही प्रलयकाल में नाशकारी हो।
You alone sustain all creation, moving and unmoving; you alone bring destruction in the time of dissolution.
जो नर पढ़ें निरन्तर तारा चालीसा। बिनश्रम होए सिद्ध साखी गौरीशा॥
jo nara paḍheṁ nirantara Tārā Cālīsā. binaśrama hoe siddha sākhī Gaurīśā.
जो नर निरंतर तारा चालीसा पढ़ते हैं, वे बिना श्रम सिद्ध हो जाते हैं, गौरीश साक्षी हैं।
Whoever reads the Tara Chalisa regularly attains accomplishment effortlessly, with Shiva himself as witness.
जो नर-सुर मुनि आवे तुम्हरे धामा। सफल होयें उनके सब कामा॥
jo nara-sura muni āve tumhare dhāmā. saphala hoyeṁ unake saba kāmā.
जो नर-सुर-मुनि तुम्हारे धाम आते हैं, उनकी सब कामनाएँ सफल होती हैं।
Whichever human, god, or sage comes to your abode -- all their desires are fulfilled.
जय जय जय माँ तारा। दीन दुखियन की तुम हो मात्र सहारा॥
jaya jaya jaya mā Tārā. dīna dukhiyana kī tuma ho mātra sahārā.
जय जय जय माँ तारा; दीन-दुखियों का तुम ही एकमात्र सहारा हो।
Victory, victory, victory to Mother Tara; you alone are the support of the poor and the suffering.
निशदिन माता तारिणी तुम्हे नवाऊँ माथ। हे जगदम्ब दीज्यो मोहि सदा तिहारो साथ॥
niśadina mātā Tāriṇī tumhe navāū mātha. he Jagadamba dījyo mohi sadā tihāro sātha.
निशदिन माता तारिणी, तुम्हें मैं माथा नवाता हूँ; हे जगदम्ब, मुझे सदा अपना साथ दीजो।
Night and day, O Mother Tarini, I bow my head to you; O Jagadamba, grant me your company always.
बिन तुम्हरे इस जगत मे नहि कोइ आलम्ब। तुमही पालनहार हो दक्षिणवासिनी जगदम्ब॥
bina tumhare isa jagata me nahi koi ālamba. tumahī pālanahāra ho Dakṣiṇavāsinī Jagadamba.
तुम्हारे बिना इस जगत में कोई आलंब नहीं; तुम ही पालनहार हो, दक्षिणवासिनी जगदम्बा।
Without you, there is no support at all in this world; you alone are the sustainer, Dakshinavasini Jagadamba.
