Chalisasचालीसा

A chalisa is a devotional hymn of forty verses (chalis means forty) praising a deity, most famously the Hanuman Chalisa. Sung in simple, memorable Awadhi or Hindi metre, chalisas are among the most widely recited texts in Indian homes, accessible to everyone regardless of Sanskrit training. They are typically chanted daily or on the deity's special day for protection, courage, and steady devotion.
