Vishnu Chalisa

Śrī Hari Viṣṇu ke caraṇ meṃ, man kram vacan dhyān. Naman karūṃ Śrī Viṣṇu ko, jo karte jag kalyāṇ॥

मैं मन, कर्म और वचन से श्री हरि विष्णु के चरणों का ध्यान करता हूँ। मैं उन श्री विष्णु को नमन करता हूँ जो सम्पूर्ण जगत का कल्याण करते हैं।

I meditate upon the feet of Lord Hari Vishnu with my mind, deeds, and words. I bow to Lord Vishnu, who works for the welfare of the entire world.

Jaya Lakṣmīpati Dīnadayālā, Jaya Garuḍadhvaja Pālanahārā. Jaya Viṣṇu Bhagavān Kṛpālā, Jaya Śaraṇāgata Pratipālanahārā॥

लक्ष्मीपति और दीनदयालु की जय हो! गरुड़ध्वज और पालनहार की जय हो। कृपालु भगवान विष्णु की जय हो जो शरणागतों की रक्षा करते हैं।

Glory to the husband of Lakshmi, who is merciful to the humble! Glory to the one who bears Garuda on his flag and sustains all. Glory to the compassionate Lord Vishnu who protects all who take refuge in Him.

Kṣīrasāgar meṃ jo virāje, Śeṣanāg śayyā par sāje. Lakṣmī jī caraṇan sevā kareṃ, Viṣṇu Bhagavān sab dukh hareṃ॥

भगवान विष्णु क्षीरसागर में शेषनाग की शय्या पर विराजमान हैं। लक्ष्मी जी उनके चरणों की सेवा करती हैं, और विष्णु भगवान सब दुखों को हरते हैं।

Lord Vishnu resides upon the ocean of milk, reclining on the bed of Shesha Naga. Goddess Lakshmi serves at His feet, and Lord Vishnu removes all sorrows.

Cār bhujā śaṅkh gadā dhārī, cakra padma kar śobhā bhārī. Pītāmbar śir mukuṭ virāje, kuṇḍal śravaṇ makar chavi sāje॥

भगवान विष्णु चार भुजाओं में शंख, गदा, चक्र और पद्म धारण करते हैं। पीताम्बर वस्त्र, सिर पर मुकुट और मकर कुण्डल उनकी शोभा बढ़ाते हैं।

Lord Vishnu bears four arms holding the conch, mace, discus, and lotus. He is adorned in yellow garments, with a crown on His head and crocodile-shaped earrings that enhance His beauty.

Vanamālā gale śobhit bhārī, Kaustubh maṇi ur chavi nyārī. Śrīvatsa lāñchan vakṣa virāje, dekh chavi sur muni man sāje॥

वनमाला उनके गले में शोभित है और कौस्तुभ मणि उनके वक्षस्थल पर अनूठी छवि देती है। श्रीवत्स चिह्न उनके वक्ष पर विराजमान है, जिसे देख देवता और मुनि मोहित हो जाते हैं।

A garland of forest flowers adorns His neck beautifully, and the Kaustubha gem shines uniquely upon His chest. The Shrivatsa mark graces His chest, and seeing His beauty, the minds of gods and sages are enchanted.

Matsya rūp dhar Ved bacāye, pralay kāl meṃ Śruti ur lāye. Somak daitya ko mār girāye, dharm kī rakṣā hit avatār āye॥

मत्स्य रूप धारण कर भगवान ने प्रलय काल में वेदों को बचाया। सोमक दैत्य का वध किया और धर्म की रक्षा के लिए अवतार लिया।

Taking the form of a fish (Matsya), the Lord saved the Vedas during the great cosmic flood. He slew the demon Somaka and incarnated for the protection of righteousness.

Kūrm rūp dhar parvat dhārā, Mandarācal ko pṛṣṭh sahārā. Samudra manthan hit avatārā, sur asur ko sahaj ubārā॥

कूर्म रूप धारण कर भगवान ने मंदराचल पर्वत को अपनी पीठ पर धारण किया। समुद्र मंथन के लिए अवतार लेकर देवताओं और असुरों दोनों को सहज सहारा दिया।

Taking the form of a tortoise (Kurma), the Lord supported Mount Mandara on His back. He incarnated for the churning of the ocean and effortlessly supported both gods and demons.

Vārāh rūp dharā jab līnhā, Hiraṇyākṣa ko mār pachīnhā. Dhartī ko Rasātal se lāye, Prabhu ne jagat samast bacāye॥

जब भगवान ने वाराह रूप धारण किया, तब हिरण्याक्ष दैत्य का वध किया। पृथ्वी को रसातल से उठाकर लाये और समस्त जगत की रक्षा की।

When the Lord took the form of a boar (Varaha), He slew the demon Hiranyaksha. He lifted the Earth from the nether regions and saved the entire world.

Narasiṃh rūp ati vikrālā, Hiraṇyakaśipu vidāre kālā. Prahlād bacāye nij dāsā, pūrṇ kiye bhaktan kī āśā॥

अत्यंत विकराल नरसिंह रूप धारण कर भगवान ने हिरण्यकशिपु का वध किया। अपने दास प्रहलाद को बचाया और भक्तों की आशा पूर्ण की।

In the terrifying form of Narasimha (half-man, half-lion), the Lord tore apart the demon king Hiranyakashipu. He saved His devotee Prahlada and fulfilled the hopes of all devotees.

Vāman rūp dhare sukhdāī, Bali se tīn lok lipṭāī. Do pag meṃ tribhuvan nāp līnhā, tīje pag Bali śīś par dīnhā॥

सुखदायी वामन रूप धारण कर भगवान ने बलि से तीनों लोक वापस लिए। दो पगों में त्रिभुवन नाप लिया और तीसरा पग बलि के मस्तक पर रखा।

Taking the blissful form of a dwarf (Vamana), the Lord reclaimed the three worlds from King Bali. In two steps He measured the three worlds, and placed His third step on Bali's head.

Paraśurām ṣaṣṭh avatārā, duṣṭ kṣatriya kul saṃhārā. Ikkīs bār pṛthvī jītī, kṣatriya vihīn dharā kar dītī॥

परशुराम विष्णु के छठे अवतार थे जिन्होंने दुष्ट क्षत्रिय कुल का संहार किया। इक्कीस बार पृथ्वी जीतकर उसे दुष्ट शासकों से मुक्त किया।

Parashurama was the sixth incarnation of Vishnu who destroyed the wicked warrior clans. He conquered the earth twenty-one times and rid it of corrupt rulers.

Śrī Rāmacandra saptam avatārā, Rāvaṇ rākṣas kul saṃhārā. Maryādā Puruṣottam kahāye, dharm satya kā mārg dikhāye॥

श्री रामचन्द्र सातवें अवतार थे जिन्होंने रावण और राक्षस कुल का संहार किया। मर्यादा पुरुषोत्तम कहलाये और धर्म व सत्य का मार्ग दिखाया।

Lord Ramachandra was the seventh incarnation who destroyed the demon Ravana and his clan. He was called Maryada Purushottam (the ideal man) and showed the world the path of righteousness and truth.

Śrī Kṛṣṇa aṣṭam avatārā, Kaṃs Cāṇūr mardan harā. Gītā jñān jagat ko dīnhā, bhaktan ko abhayadān kīnhā॥

श्री कृष्ण आठवें अवतार थे जिन्होंने कंस और चाणूर का वध किया। जगत को गीता का ज्ञान दिया और भक्तों को अभयदान दिया।

Lord Krishna was the eighth incarnation who destroyed the tyrants Kamsa and Chanura. He gave the knowledge of the Gita to the world and granted fearlessness to His devotees.

Buddh rūp navam avatārā, dayā ahiṃsā dharm pracārā. Śānti karuṇā jag meṃ boye, sakal prāṇiyoṃ ke dukh khoye॥

नवम अवतार बुद्ध रूप में भगवान ने दया और अहिंसा का धर्म प्रचारित किया। जगत में शान्ति और करुणा बोई और समस्त प्राणियों के दुख दूर किये।

In the ninth incarnation as Buddha, the Lord spread the dharma of compassion and non-violence. He sowed seeds of peace and mercy in the world and removed the suffering of all living beings.

Kaliyug ant Kalki avatārā, śvet aśva par hoy savārā. Mleccha sakal jag se miṭvāye, Satyug dharm punaḥ sthāpāye॥

कलियुग के अंत में भगवान कल्कि अवतार लेंगे, श्वेत अश्व पर सवार होकर। सम्पूर्ण दुष्टों को समाप्त कर सतयुग के धर्म की पुनः स्थापना करेंगे।

At the end of Kali Yuga, the Lord will come as the Kalki incarnation, riding a white horse. He will rid the world of all wickedness and re-establish the golden age of truth (Satya Yuga).

Daśāvatār līlā ati bhārī, sakal jagat ke hitkārī. Jab jab dharm glāni jag hoī, tab tab Prabhu pragaṭe sukhdoī॥

दशावतार की लीला अत्यंत भव्य है और समस्त जगत का हित करने वाली है। जब-जब संसार में धर्म की हानि होती है, तब-तब सुखदाता प्रभु प्रकट होते हैं।

The divine play of the ten incarnations is supremely grand and benefits the entire world. Whenever righteousness declines in the world, the Lord appears to restore happiness.

Śaṅkh nād jo karte bhārī, dūr hoy bhav rog bimārī. Sudarśan cakr sadā rakhvārā, duṣṭ dalan Prabhu kṛpā tumhārā॥

उनके शंख की भारी ध्वनि सांसारिक रोग और बीमारियों को दूर करती है। सुदर्शन चक्र सदा रक्षक है, और प्रभु की कृपा से दुष्टों का दमन होता है।

The mighty sound of His conch drives away all worldly diseases and afflictions. His Sudarshana discus is ever the protector, and by His grace, all wickedness is crushed.

Gadā khaḍg padma kar dhārī, kareṃ sadā bhaktan rakhvārī. Nārāyaṇ Hari nām tumhārā, bhav sāgar se kareṃ ubārā॥

गदा, खड्ग और पद्म हाथ में धारण कर भगवान सदा भक्तों की रखवाली करते हैं। नारायण हरि आपका नाम है जो भवसागर से उबारता है।

Holding the mace, sword, and lotus in His hands, the Lord always protects His devotees. Your name is Narayana Hari, and You rescue us from the ocean of worldly existence.

Brahmā jī nābhi kamal se janme, sṛṣṭi racanā kā mūl Prabhu tumse. Pālan kartā Viṣṇu pukāre, ant samay Śiv saṅg bihāre॥

ब्रह्मा जी आपकी नाभि कमल से जन्मे — सृष्टि की रचना का मूल आप हैं, प्रभु। पालन कर्ता विष्णु कहलाते हैं और अन्त समय शिव के संग विहार करते हैं।

Lord Brahma was born from the lotus at Your navel — the entire creation originates from You, O Lord. You are called Vishnu, the sustainer, and at the end of time, You are with Shiva in cosmic play.

Vaikuṇṭh dhām meṃ jo virāje, sakal lok sundartā sāje. Nitya siddh paramānand rūpā, anant anādi atul anūpā॥

भगवान विष्णु वैकुण्ठ धाम में विराजमान हैं, समस्त लोकों को सुन्दरता प्रदान करते हैं। वे नित्य सिद्ध और परमानन्द स्वरूप हैं — अनन्त, अनादि, अतुल और अनुपम।

Lord Vishnu resides in the supreme abode of Vaikuntha, adorning all worlds with beauty. He is eternally perfect and the form of supreme bliss — infinite, beginningless, incomparable, and unparalleled.

Tum hī kartā tum hī hartā, tum hī pālak sabke kartā. Tumse pragaṭ sakal saṃsārā, tum hī sabke prāṇādhārā॥

आप ही कर्ता हैं, आप ही हर्ता हैं, आप ही सबके पालक और कर्ता हैं। आपसे ही सम्पूर्ण संसार प्रकट होता है और आप ही सबके प्राणाधार हैं।

You alone are the creator, the remover, and the sustainer of all. The entire world manifests from You, and You alone are the life-support of all beings.

Sāgar mekhalā dharanī dhārī, tum rakṣak jagat hitkārī. Nabh jaisī tumhārī kāyā, māyā tumhārī agam apārā॥

सागर रूपी मेखला वाली पृथ्वी को धारण करते हैं, आप जगत के रक्षक और हितकारी हैं। आपकी काया आकाश सी विशाल है और माया अगम व अपार है।

You bear the earth girded by the oceans and are the protector and benefactor of the world. Your body is vast like the sky, and Your divine maya is inaccessible and limitless.

Garuḍ vāhan Garuḍ dhvajadhārī, vinatī suno hamārī bhārī. Śeṣanāg jo śayyā terī, sadā rahe mukh nām ghanerī॥

गरुड़ वाहन और गरुड़ ध्वज धारण करने वाले, हमारी विनती सुनिए। शेषनाग जो आपकी शय्या हैं, सदा आपके नाम का जप करते हैं।

O Lord who rides Garuda and bears Garuda on His flag, please hear our earnest prayer. Shesha Naga, who serves as Your bed, always chants Your name abundantly.

Tulasī dal Prabhu ko ati bhāve, bhakt prem patra phūl caḍhāve. Ekādaśī vrat jo nar karahī, Viṣṇu kṛpā sadā ur bharahī॥

तुलसी का पत्ता प्रभु को अत्यंत प्रिय है। भक्त जब प्रेम से पत्र-पुष्प चढ़ाते हैं और एकादशी का व्रत करते हैं, तो विष्णु की कृपा सदा उनके हृदय में भरी रहती है।

The Lord is deeply pleased by the offering of Tulsi leaves. When devotees offer leaves and flowers with love, and observe the Ekadashi fast, Vishnu's grace fills their hearts forever.

Dhartī pātāl ākāś tumhārā, tum hī sabmeṃ ot prasārā. Jal thal vāyu agni ākāśā, sabmeṃ vyāpt tumhārā vāsā॥

पृथ्वी, पाताल और आकाश सब आपका है — आप ही सबमें ओतप्रोत हैं। जल, थल, वायु, अग्नि और आकाश — सबमें आपका वास व्याप्त है।

The earth, netherworld, and sky are all Yours — You pervade everything as the warp and weft of existence. In water, land, air, fire, and sky — Your presence dwells in all.

Dhruv ko jo tumne var dīnhā, aṭal padavī tārā kīnhā. Nārad ko nij bhakti pradānā, gāyan vidyā adbhut dānā॥

आपने ध्रुव को वर देकर उसे अटल तारे की पदवी दी। नारद को अपनी भक्ति प्रदान की और अद्भुत गायन विद्या का दान दिया।

You granted Dhruva the boon of an immovable position as the Pole Star. You blessed Narada with supreme devotion and the wondrous gift of divine music.

Ambarīṣ kī lāj bacāī, Sudarśan cakr śakti dikhlāī. Durvāsā muni abhimān cūrā, Viṣṇu bhakt kī rakṣā pūrā॥

भगवान ने सुदर्शन चक्र की शक्ति दिखाकर अम्बरीष की लाज बचाई। दुर्वासा मुनि का अभिमान चूर किया और अपने भक्त की पूर्ण रक्षा की।

The Lord saved King Ambarisha's honor by unleashing the Sudarshana discus. He crushed the pride of sage Durvasa and completely protected His devotee.

Gaj grāh meṃ phaṃsā pukārā, Hari āye tatkāl ubārā. Nakra vadh kar gaj ko tārā, bhaktavatsal yaś jag meṃ sārā॥

जब गजेन्द्र ग्राह की पकड़ में फँसकर पुकारा, हरि तत्काल आकर उबारे। नक्र का वध कर गज को तारा — भक्तवत्सल का यश सम्पूर्ण जगत में फैला।

When the elephant Gajendra, caught by a crocodile, cried out in distress, Lord Hari came immediately and rescued him. Slaying the crocodile, He saved Gajendra — His fame as the lover of devotees spread across the world.

Draupadī kī lāj jo rākhī, akṣay vastr kṛpā se sākhī. Bhakt Sudāmā ko apnāyā, dīn daridra ko rāj dilāyā॥

भगवान ने अपनी कृपा से अक्षय वस्त्र देकर द्रौपदी की लाज रखी। गरीब भक्त सुदामा को अपनाया और दीन-दरिद्र को वैभव दिलाया।

The Lord protected Draupadi's honor by providing an endless flow of cloth through His grace. He embraced the poor devotee Sudama and blessed the humble one with immense wealth.

Vibhīṣaṇ ko śaraṇāgat pāyā, Laṅkā kā rājatilak karāyā. Śaraṇāgat rakṣak kahlāye, kabhī na bhaktan ko ṭhukrāye॥

भगवान ने विभीषण को शरणागत पाकर लंका का राजतिलक कराया। शरणागत रक्षक कहलाते हैं और कभी भी भक्तों को नहीं ठुकराते।

The Lord accepted Vibhishana as a refugee and crowned him king of Lanka. He is known as the protector of those who seek refuge and never rejects any devotee.

Bhakt hetu nit naye upāyā, kaṣṭ haraṇ ko rūp banāyā. Jo koī śaraṇ tumhārī āve, so sab sukh sampatti pāve॥

भक्तों के लिए भगवान नित नये उपाय करते हैं और कष्ट हरण के लिए नये रूप धारण करते हैं। जो भी उनकी शरण आता है, वह सब सुख और सम्पत्ति पाता है।

For the sake of devotees, the Lord devises ever-new means and takes forms to remove their suffering. Whoever comes to His refuge receives all happiness and prosperity.

Aj ajit anant avināśī, sabke hṛday base avināśī. Nirguṇ saguṇ doū rūp tumhārā, bhakt janan ko ati sukhkārā॥

आप अज, अजित, अनन्त और अविनाशी हैं — सबके हृदय में अविनाशी रूप में बसते हैं। निर्गुण और सगुण दोनों आपके रूप हैं, दोनों भक्तजनों को अति सुख देने वाले हैं।

You are unborn, unconquered, infinite, and imperishable — dwelling in every heart as the indestructible One. Both Your formless and formed aspects exist, and both bring supreme joy to Your devotees.

Cāroṃ Ved tumhāre guṇ gāveṃ, ṣaḍ darśan tum ko samjhāveṃ. Sanakādik Brahmādi munindā, sadā kareṃ tum bhajan anindā॥

चारों वेद आपके गुण गाते हैं और छह दर्शन आपको समझाते हैं। सनकादिक, ब्रह्मा और महान मुनिगण सदा निर्दोष भक्ति से आपका भजन करते हैं।

The four Vedas sing Your glories, and the six schools of philosophy try to explain You. Sanaka and his brothers, Brahma, and all great sages constantly worship You with blameless devotion.

Lakṣmī jī saṅg jo virāje, sampatti aiśvarya sab sāje. Jo nar nitya tumheṃ śīś nāve, Lakṣmī kṛpā sadā vo pāve॥

भगवान विष्णु लक्ष्मी जी के संग विराजमान हैं, सम्पत्ति और ऐश्वर्य सब सजे हैं। जो व्यक्ति नित्य उन्हें शीश नवाता है, वह सदा लक्ष्मी की कृपा पाता है।

Lord Vishnu is enthroned with Goddess Lakshmi, and all wealth and prosperity are arranged around Them. Whoever daily bows their head to the Lord always receives Lakshmi's grace.

Hari Oṃ Tatsat nām tumhārā, praṇav rūp jag kā ādhārā. Oṃ Namo Nārāyaṇ boleṃ, bhav bandhan ke sab bandh kholeṃ॥

हरि ॐ तत्सत आपका नाम है — प्रणव रूप जगत का आधार। 'ॐ नमो नारायण' बोलने से भव बन्धन के सब बन्ध खुल जाते हैं।

Your name is Hari Om Tatsat — the sacred syllable Om, the foundation of the world. When we chant 'Om Namo Narayana,' all bonds of worldly existence are released.

Satyanārāyaṇ vrat karvāī, pūjā kathā sakal sukh dāī. Jo nar kareṃ vidhivat pūjā, Viṣṇu kṛpā se na rahe dūjā॥

सत्यनारायण व्रत और पूजा-कथा सकल सुख देने वाली है। जो व्यक्ति विधिवत पूजा करता है, वह विष्णु की कृपा से कभी वंचित नहीं रहता।

The Satyanarayan vrat and katha (worship and recitation) bestow all happiness. Whoever performs the worship with proper rites is never separated from Vishnu's grace.

Jo koī cālīsā yah gāve, sakal manorath pūrṇ ho jāve. Viṣṇu kṛpā jo nar par hoī, tiske man meṃ kaṣṭ na koī॥

जो कोई इस चालीसा को गाता है, उसके सकल मनोरथ पूर्ण हो जाते हैं। जिस व्यक्ति पर विष्णु की कृपा होती है, उसके मन में कोई कष्ट नहीं रहता।

Whoever sings this Chalisa will have all their heartfelt wishes fulfilled. The person upon whom Vishnu's grace descends will have no suffering left in their heart.

Rogī hoy so svasth ho jāī, daridra ho so dhan sampat pāī. Niḥsantān santān sukh pāve, gṛh kleś sab dūr bhagāve॥

रोगी स्वस्थ हो जाएगा, दरिद्र को धन-सम्पत्ति मिलेगी। निःसन्तान को सन्तान का सुख मिलेगा और घर के सब कलेश दूर हो जाएंगे।

The sick will become healthy, the poor will gain wealth. The childless will be blessed with children, and all household conflicts will be driven away.

Bhay nāśan dukh haraṇ tumhārā, bhavsāgar se karo ubārā. Sakal vipatti miṭe kṣaṇ māhīṃ, tum sam kṛpālu kou jag nāhīṃ॥

आप भय के नाशक और दुखों के हरने वाले हैं — भवसागर से हमारा उद्धार करें। सकल विपत्तियाँ क्षण में मिट जाती हैं, आपसे कृपालु इस जगत में कोई नहीं।

You are the destroyer of fear and the remover of all sorrows — please rescue us from the ocean of worldly existence. All calamities vanish in a moment, for there is no one as compassionate as You in this world.

Viṣṇu Sahasranām jo gāve, dukh dāridra nikaṭ nahiṃ āve. Anant nām anant mahimā, Viṣṇu caraṇ meṃ pāve garimā॥

जो विष्णु सहस्रनाम गाता है, उसके पास दुख और दारिद्र्य नहीं आते। उनके नाम अनन्त हैं, महिमा अनन्त है — विष्णु के चरणों में गरिमा प्राप्त होती है।

Whoever sings the Vishnu Sahasranama will never be touched by sorrow or poverty. His names are infinite and His glory is infinite — one attains dignity and greatness at Vishnu's feet.

Sandhyā prātaḥ jo nar guṇ gāve, antkāl Viṣṇu dhām pāve. Jīvan bhar sukh śānti birāje, maraṇoprānt Vaikuṇṭh virāje॥

जो व्यक्ति सन्ध्या और प्रातः गुण गाता है, वह अन्तकाल में विष्णु धाम पाता है। जीवन भर सुख-शान्ति बनी रहती है और मरणोपरान्त वैकुण्ठ में विराजते हैं।

Whoever sings the Lord's praises morning and evening will attain Vishnu's abode at the time of death. Throughout life, peace and happiness will prevail, and after death, one resides in Vaikuntha.

Viṣṇu Cālīsā jo nit gāve, cāroṃ puruṣārth phal pāve. Dharm arth kām mokṣ dātā, Viṣṇu Bhagavān sabke trātā॥

जो नित्य विष्णु चालीसा गाता है, उसे चारों पुरुषार्थों का फल प्राप्त होता है। धर्म, अर्थ, काम और मोक्ष के दाता भगवान विष्णु सबके त्राता हैं।

Whoever sings this Vishnu Chalisa daily attains the fruits of all four goals of human life — righteousness, prosperity, desire-fulfillment, and liberation. Lord Vishnu is the giver of all four and the savior of everyone.

Viṣṇu Cālīsā paḍheṃ jo koī, unkī vipatti dūr ho hoī. Man karm vacan dhyān jo lāve, so jan param pad niścay pāve॥

जो कोई विष्णु चालीसा पढ़ता है, उसकी विपत्तियाँ दूर होती हैं। जो मन, कर्म और वचन से ध्यान लगाता है, वह जन निश्चय ही परम पद पाता है।

Whoever recites this Vishnu Chalisa will see all their calamities removed. One who devotes their mind, deeds, and words to this meditation will certainly attain the supreme state.

Jaya jaya Viṣṇu Lakṣmīpati devā, jaya jaya Pālanahār Mahādevā. Kar joḍ vinay yahī maiṃ kartā, caraṇan meṃ rahūṃ sadā Prabhu hartā॥

जय जय विष्णु लक्ष्मीपति देव! जय जय पालनहार महादेव! कर जोड़कर यही विनय करता हूँ — प्रभु, दुख हरने वाले, सदा आपके चरणों में रहूँ।
