Amba's Garland and the Manhood of Shikhandi

Rejected by every kshatriya, Amba appeals to Drupada (Yajnasena) of Panchala, who will not set himself against Bhishma; she hangs Kumara's garland on his door, declaring that whoever wears it will slay Bhishma. Years later Drupada's daughter Shikhandini puts it on and is cast out by her frightened father. On the advice of the sage Ishika she serves the Gandharvas at Gangadvara, where one Gandharva exchanges his manhood for her womanhood; as Shikhandi he masters divine weapons and returns to tell his father he need not fear Bhishma.
