Gandhari Weds Dhritarashtra
Bhishma tells Vidura that the Kuru line, restored by himself, Satyavati and Krishna Dvaipayana, must now be extended, and names the Yadava maiden and the daughters of Subala and of the king of Madra; Vidura leaves the choice to him. Hearing that Gandhari has won from Shiva the boon of a hundred sons, Bhishma sends to Subala, who, after hesitating over Dhritarashtra's blindness, gives her. Learning that her husband is blind, Gandhari binds her own eyes with a folded cloth; Shakuni brings her to the Kurus and the marriage is held. Subala then gives her ten sisters as well, and Bhishma brings Dhritarashtra more than a hundred princesses.
