Hidimba Pleads for Bhima
Hidimba follows the Pandavas and declares her love to Bhima, who threatens to kill her until Yudhishthira forbids him to harm a woman. She then appeals to Kunti, arguing that dharma permits whatever preserves life in distress, promises to serve and carry the family, and foretells their meeting with Vyasa at the lake and tree made by the sage Shalihotra. Kunti judges her words righteous, and Yudhishthira agrees to the union on terms: she may have Bhima by day, must bring him back each night, and only until she conceives.
