Arjuna Reveals Himself to Subhadra
Krishna brings the disguised Arjuna into Dvaraka and lodges him in the maidens' quarters, charging his sister Subhadra to serve the ascetic. Arjuna falls in love with her, and Subhadra, who has long loved Arjuna from what she has heard of him, recognises him; when she asks the ascetic for news of the Pandavas, he reveals that he is Arjuna and promises to be her husband. Through Rukmini and Devaki the matter reaches Vasudeva, the elders fix the wedding, and Krishna, keeping it from Balarama and Uddhava, announces a thirty-four-day festival for Mahadeva on the island of Antardvipa, leaving Subhadra behind to attend the ascetic while the Yadavas revel; with Krishna gone, Arjuna judges that the time has come to carry off Subhadra.
