Shri Makes Her Home in Cow-Dung
Yudhishthira asks why Shri (Lakshmi) is said to dwell in cow-dung. Bhishma tells the old dialogue in which Shri, taking a beautiful form, enters a herd of cows and asks to live among them. The cows refuse her as fickle and common; she pleads that she not be rejected, asking to dwell even in some humble part of their bodies, and they grant her their dung and urine. Having made this pact she vanishes.
