The Best of Holy Places: Tirthas of the Mind
Yudhishthira asks which is the best of all holy places and where purity is found. Bhishma answers that the true tirtha is the mind, bathed in truth, patience, self-control, non-injury and knowledge, and that devotion to Narayana or Rudra is the highest holy place. The tirthas of the body are named first, and only then the sacred waters of the earth. He ends by saying that one who is made pure in both ways, by bodily purity and by the purity of the tirtha, reaches perfection.
