Kings Who Gained Heaven by Giving

Yudhishthira asks which is greater on earth, giving or austerity. Bhishma answers by naming kings and sages who reached the highest worlds through gifts to brahmins, from Shibi and Pratardana, who gave their sons or their lives, to Rama, Bhagiratha and Lomapada. He ends by telling Yudhishthira to keep giving, and promises to answer his remaining doubts at dawn, since evening has come.
