Why Shiva Lives in the Cremation Ground and Wears the Moon
Narada continues the dialogue of Uma and Shiva. Shiva explains that he dwells in the cremation ground because he settled there the dreadful host of spirits that Brahma set him to restrain; that his fiery form balances Vishnu's cool one and sustains the worlds; and that he wears Soma on his head in atonement for striking him at Daksha's sacrifice. The sages praise him, and Uma asks him to teach the duties of the castes and stages of life.
