Shiva Teaches the Dharma of the Forest Hermits

Uma asks Shiva about the dharma of the austere sages gathered before her, and the sages praise her question. Shiva describes the life of the forest-dwelling hermit: leaving home after discharging a householder's duties, daily rites, hospitality, fasts and bodily austerities, and the heaven and rebirth that follow. He then explains how hermits who keep their wives with them live and reach the same worlds.
