Shiva Teaches Uma the Dharma of the Householder
Uma asks for the dharma that pervades all, and Maheshvara describes the duties of the Brahmin and the Shudra, the six Brahmin duties, hospitality, and the two paths of action and of withdrawal, praising giving above all. Uma then asks about the householder's vows and the conduct of those who have lost their parents, and Shiva sets out a householder's daily observances, shows that every other stage of life rests on the householder, and ends with a short account of the wandering seeker of liberation.
