The Fruits of Karma: Wealth, Age, Beauty and Fortune
Uma asks why men differ in fortune, and Maheshvara traces each difference to earlier deeds. Those who give unasked and with discernment enjoy without effort; those who give only when pressed must toil to regain it; the stingy get nothing. He explains why some gain riches only in old age, why some are rich but sick, why some are handsome and others ugly, and why some are loved by women while others, though wealthy, are disliked.
