Sacrifice and the Worship of the Gods

Uma asks about sacrifice, worldly and Vedic. Maheshvara declares that all creation exists for sacrifice, which pleases the gods, who in turn sustain the worlds, and he describes the worldly worship of festivals, garlands, incense, music and hymns. Asked how the gods in heaven can know what men do on earth, he answers that the self within each body, which is the supreme god, knows every deed, and that the mind decides whether a deed bears fruit.
