Maheshvara Asks Uma for the Dharma of Women

Mahadeva, naming the famous goddess-wives of the gods and the sages, asks Uma to set out the dharma of women. Shy to speak before him, Uma is told that he commands it; she then calls the great rivers, from the Vipasha to the Ganga, to consult them. Ganga, speaking for the rivers, praises her modesty and begs her to speak, and Uma turns to Maheshvara to begin.
