Uma on the Duties of Wives: Devapriya and Yama
Narada tells how, with the women of the sages, gandharvas, yakshas, apsarases, nagas and bhutas and the rivers gathered round, the goddess Uma begins to speak to Maheshvara on the duties of women. She explains who may give a maiden in marriage, the kinds of marriage, and the devotion a wife owes her husband, whom she must regard as her god. She illustrates it with the tale of a brahmin's two wives, one of whom neglected her husband for the gods and is turned back by Yama from the worlds of merit.
