Ishvara Foretells the Birth of Krishna

The sages ask Shiva (Ishvara) to tell the greatness of Vasudeva. Shiva describes Hari as the supreme person from whom Brahma and he himself arose, who has taken a human body for the work of the gods, and traces the line of Manu, Daksha, Yayati and Yadu down to Shura, Vasudeva and Krishna, with Balarama as his elder brother. He tells the sages to honour Krishna, saying that seeing him is seeing Shiva and Brahma, and declares Krishna and Balarama to be Vishnu and Ananta Shesha.
