The Gift of Land and Brihaspati's Teaching to Indra

Yudhishthira asks which gift is supreme. Bhishma answers that it is the gift of land: it purifies even the sinful, brings the giver prosperity in this world and heaven beyond, and surpasses the Ashvamedha. He recites the songs of the Earth and then the old dialogue in which Brihaspati tells Indra of the merits of giving land and the sin of taking it back. Reciting this praise at a shraddha is said to make the offering imperishable.
