Chyavana Defies Indra at Sharyati's Sacrifice
Hearing that Chyavana has been made young, Sharyati visits his hermitage with his queen and army, and the sage offers to perform a sacrifice for him. At the rite Chyavana takes up a cup of Soma for the Ashvins; Indra objects that the physicians of the gods are unworthy of it and, when Chyavana persists, hurls his thunderbolt. Chyavana paralyses Indra's arm and, by the power of his austerity, raises from the fire a monstrous being named Mada, who rushes roaring at Indra to devour him.
