Kuntibhoja Entrusts Pritha with the Brahmin's Care
Janamejaya asks about the Sun's secret and the origin of Karna's earrings and armour, and Vaishampayana begins the story. Long ago a fiery, imposing Brahmin came to King Kuntibhoja and asked to live in his house on condition that nothing ever displease him, and the king agreed. Kuntibhoja then charges his adopted daughter Pritha, born a Vrishni and the sister of Vasudeva, with the Brahmin's service, reminding her of the power of Brahmins and warning that his whole family would burn if the Brahmin were angered.
