Krishna on the Gift of Water and Food, and the Honouring of Guests

Delighted by the account of the road to Yama's city, Yudhishthira asks Krishna for the fruit of every kind of gift, how and to whom to give, and where the fruit of austerity is enjoyed. Krishna praises the gift of water, which quenches thirst and brings joy by the river Pushpodaki, and then the gift of food, on which all life rests. He describes the rewards of feeding Brahmins and guests, the torments of those who turn a guest away, and the birth in a Brahmin family that crowns a life of generous hospitality.
