Ashvamedhika Parva · Adhyaya 113
One Meal a Day through the Twelve Months
Yudhishthira asks Krishna for a duty that benefits all beings. Krishna prescribes the vow of eating once a day, month by month from Kartika through Ashvayuja. For each month he gives the worship and gifts that go with it and the fruit: the merit of a tawny cow, the Agnihotra, the Agnishtoma, the Rajasuya and the Ashvamedha, then a rebirth in one of the regions of the world and finally as a Brahmin or king.
