Agni Carries Indra's Message to Marutta
Vyasa continues the story of Marutta. Brihaspati, pale with envy, tells Indra that Marutta means to have his younger brother Samvarta officiate at his sacrifice, and asks Indra to stop it. Indra sends Agni to offer Marutta Brihaspati as his priest, but Samvarta threatens to burn Agni, who returns in fear. Indra mocks him, and Agni reminds Indra of how Chyavana overcame him, proving that the power of a brahmin exceeds all other strength.
