Bhishma Parva · Adhyaya 121
Arjuna Draws Water from the Earth for Bhishma
At dawn the kings of both sides, with maidens, townsfolk and musicians, gather around Bhishma on his bed of arrows, laying down their arms and sitting together as before. Tormented by his wounds, Bhishma asks for water; refusing the jars and food the kings bring as mere human comforts, he calls for Arjuna, who pierces the earth beside him with an arrow charged with the Parjanya weapon and raises a cool, fragrant stream for him to drink. Praising Arjuna's unmatched mastery of the divine weapons, Bhishma urges Duryodhana to end the war with his own death, give the Pandavas half the kingdom and make peace while it is still possible, but Duryodhana, like a dying man refusing medicine, will not accept the advice.

But your son, though he heard those words, joined with dharma and artha, beneficial and wholesome, did not take to them, as a dying man takes no liking to medicine.
Note on the text: Not in the critical edition's constituted text (found in the vulgate recension); the critical edition records it in its apparatus as the star passage 6.116.51d*0503. The page's commentary notes that this verse is found in only one of its manuscripts (झ).
