Karna and Bhima Rain Arrows on Each Other
Dhritarashtra laments his own misjudgement and asks Sanjaya to tell him how the heroes fell. Sanjaya describes Karna and Bhima showering arrows on each other while Duryodhana's warriors are cut down and flee, then stand off to watch. The field becomes a river of blood strewn with broken chariots, weapons and ornaments, and the Charanas and Siddhas marvel at the fight.

Verse 1 (7.138.1)
महानपनयः सूत ममैवात्र विशेषतः । स इदानीमनुप्राप्तो मन्ये सञ्जय शोचतः ॥
mahānapanayaḥ sūta mamaivātra viśeṣataḥ | sa idānīmanuprāpto manye sañjaya śocataḥ
Suta, this is a great blunder, and mine above all. Now, Sanjaya, I think it has overtaken me, and I am left to grieve.
Note on the text: Joined from the two half-verse rows the input printed separately (the page is poem-only and the input parser made each half-verse its own row); text as printed on the page (7-138-1a/b). Identical to CE 7.113.1. The page's speaker heading "धृतराष्ट्र उवाच" (printed with the stray mark "7-138-1x") makes the speaker Dhritarashtra.
Verse 2 (7.138.2)
यद्गतं तद्गतमिति ममासीन्मनसि स्थितम् । इदानीमत्र किं कार्यं प्रकरिष्यामि सञ्जय ॥
yadgataṃ tadgatamiti mamāsīnmanasi sthitam | idānīmatra kiṃ kāryaṃ prakariṣyāmi sañjaya
"What is gone is gone" — so I had settled it in my mind. But now, Sanjaya, what is there for me to do in this?
Note on the text: Joined from the two half-verse rows the input printed separately (the page is poem-only and the input parser made each half-verse its own row); text as printed on the page (7-138-2a/b). yathā hyeṣa kṣayo vṛtto mamāpanayasaṃbhavaḥ | vīrāṇāṃ tanmamācaśva sthirībhūto'smi sañjaya
Tell me, Sanjaya, how this destruction of the heroes, which has sprung from my own misconduct, came about. I have grown steady enough to hear it.
Note on the text: Joined from the two half-verse rows the input printed separately (the page is poem-only and the input parser made each half-verse its own row); text as printed on the page (7-138-3a/b). Line 1 reads "ह्येष" where CE 7.113.3a reads "tv eṣa" — a recension variant, kept; line 2 = CE 7.113.3c. The next page line is the speaker heading "सञ्जय उवाच" (no verse number), which makes Sanjaya the speaker from verse 4 on.

O great king, Karna and Bhima, both mighty and valiant, loosed showers of arrows like two rain-bearing clouds.
Note on the text: Joined from the two half-verse rows the input printed separately (the page is poem-only and the input parser made each half-verse its own row); text as printed on the page (7-138-4a/b). Corrected कर्णाभीमौ → कर्णभीमौ (misprint in Wikisource; stray ā; CE karṇabhīmau). CE 7.113.4a reads "parākrāntau mahāhave" and 4c "bāṇavarṣāṇy avarṣetām" — recension variants (वाण is the page's spelling of बाण), kept. Note on the text: Joined from the two half-verse rows the input printed separately (the page is poem-only and the input parser made each half-verse its own row); text as printed on the page (7-138-6a/b). The input row carried the stray marker text "7-38-6a" (a mistyped verse tag) inside the Sanskrit; removed it. The page's wording differs from CE 7.113.6 ("tathaiva karṇanirmuktaiḥ saviṣair iva pannagaiḥ / ākīryata raṇe bhīmaḥ śataśo 'tha sahasraśaḥ"): only the opening "tathaiva karṇanirmukta-" and "śataśo 'tha sahasraśaḥ" are shared; a recension variant, Wikisource's reading kept.

Note on the text: Taken from the single input row for number 22 (7-138-22a). The page prints only this one line for number 22, and prints no number 21 at all; nothing is lost in the sense, since the CE too reads straight on from the previous line (star passage *0891_01) to this one. Corrected खर्णसूत्रैः → स्वर्णसूत्रैः (misprint in Wikisource; ख for स्व; CE svarṇasūtraiḥ). gajābhyāṃ saṃprayuktābhyāmāsīnnalavanaṃ yathā | tathārūpaṃ mahatsainyamāsīttava narādhipa
Like a reed-forest trampled by two elephants locked in combat, O ruler of men, so did your great army become.
Note on the text: Joined from the two half-verse rows the input printed separately (the page is poem-only and the input parser made each half-verse its own row); text as printed on the page (7-138-28a/b). Corrected तथारुपं → तथारूपं (misprint in Wikisource; short u; the evident word is रूप). Line 1 = CE 7.113.26a (page "नलवनं" for CE "naḍavanaṃ", an accepted variant, kept). Line 2 corresponds to CE 7.113.26c ("tathābhūtaṃ mahat sainyam āsīd bhārata saṃyuge"), with an ending as in CE star passage 7.113.26d*0892_01 ("āsīt tava narādhipa"); a variant, kept.
Verse 28 (7.138.28)
विमर्दः कर्णभीमाभ्यामासीच्च परमो रणे ॥
vimardaḥ karṇabhīmābhyāmāsīcca paramo raṇe
And the havoc that Karna and Bhima wrought in that battle was supreme.
Note on the text: Taken from the single input row for number 29 (7-138-29a; trailing spaces trimmed). The page prints only this one line for number 29 and then ends with no colophon. = CE 7.113.26e, which is likewise a single line (it shares CE verse 26 with the preceding verse).
