Brahma Drives Rudra's Chariot; the Burning of Tripura
Duryodhana goes on with his story to Shalya. The gods ask Brahma to be the charioteer of Rudra's new chariot, and he agrees. He mounts, the Vedic horses sink to their knees under the two great lords and then rise, and Rudra rides against the three cities of the Danavas. When the cities merge into one, a single arrow burns Tripura to nothing, and Rudra checks the fire of his own wrath before it consumes the worlds. Duryodhana then urges Shalya to be Karna's charioteer as Brahma was Rudra's.

The hosts of gods said to him, "Whomever you yourself appoint, O lord of the gods, will be your charioteer, without doubt."
Note on the text: Adhyaya note: the input's 47 verses agree with the raw page's table row for row (Wikisource numbers 1–47 are kept; the page misprints the last line number of verse 7 as 7b). The automatic alignment missed many of them because the page follows the vulgate's wording and line-grouping; each verse's note maps it to the critical edition's main text 8.24.95–128 and to its star passages (8.24.105d*0267, 107*0269, etc.). Duryodhana continues to tell Shalya the story of Rudra's chariot (the page's headings दुर्योधन उवाच and ब्रह्मोवाच). Lines = 8.24.95a, 95c. The gods' words are quoted inside Duryodhana's narration.

Hearing this, all the gods went to the Grandsire, bowed down, and, single-minded, propitiated him together with the great sages, and said:
Note on the text: A recension variant of 8.24.97 (etac chrutvā tato devā vākyam uktaṃ mahātmanā / gatvā pitāmahaṃ devaṃ prasādyaivaṃ vaco 'bruvan): the wording differs, the sense is the same. The automatic alignment found no match.
