Bhima Cuts Down Duryodhana's Brothers
Dhritarashtra asks what Duryodhana did after Bhima overthrew Karna, and Sanjaya tells how Duryodhana sends a band of his brothers to rescue Karna. Bhima kills Vivitsu, Vikata, Saha, Kratha, Nanda and Upananda, then fights Karna, loses his chariot, and, standing on the ground with his mace, destroys hundreds of elephants, chariots and Shakuni's horsemen. Satyaki engages Karna, the armies close in fury at midday, and the fighting grows ever fiercer.

Knowing the vital points, the strong one killed those elephants with blows on the tusk-sheaths, the eyes, the frontal globes and the temples, and on their vital parts as well.
Note on the text: Line 1 corresponds to the critical edition's 8.35.26a; line 2 differs (tān nāgān avadhīd balī for ninadan vyadhamad bhṛśam): a recension variant.
Verse 47 (8.46.47)

Then Karna, the great chariot-warrior, seeing that army in flight, pursued it, scattering straight-flying arrows with heron feathers.
Note on the text: Restored from the critical edition (8.35.40c): Wikisource prints this verse as a single line; line 2 (anvadhāvat kiran bāṇaiḥ kaṅkapatrair ajihmagaiḥ) is added from the critical edition's IAST, and the sense (the object of the pursuit comes in the next verse) confirms it. Line 1 is kept as Wikisource has it (it differs from the critical edition's saṃpradrutaṃ saṃkhye rathaṃ dṛṣṭvā mahārathaḥ).
