Yudhishthira Challenges Duryodhana at the Lake
The Pandavas reach the Dvaipayana lake, where Yudhishthira, urged by Krishna to meet illusion with stratagem, taunts Duryodhana to rise and fight. Duryodhana answers that he hid only to rest, and offers Yudhishthira the whole ruined earth, saying he will go to the forest. Yudhishthira refuses a gift he does not want, recalls Duryodhana's old wrongs, and tells him to stand up and fight.

Even now, Yudhishthira, I hope to defeat you, by breaking the spirit of the Panchalas and the Pandavas, O best of the Bharatas.

Note on the text: Removed the square brackets and the speaker heading "सञ्जय उवाच" that had slipped into the verse text (the heading is made the speaker), and the stray double danda before the verse-end mark. The page prints the verse in brackets, as an interpolation. Not in the critical edition's constituted text (found in the vulgate recension); the critical edition records it in its apparatus as the star passage 9.30.50d*0186_01–02 (introduced by its speaker line *0186_00, "saṃjaya uvāca"). The input gave Duryodhana as speaker.
