Duryodhana Rises from the Lake
Dhritarashtra asks how his proud son bore the Pandavas' taunts, and Sanjaya tells him. Standing in the water, Duryodhana protests that he is weaponless and alone, but declares that he will fight them all. Yudhishthira offers him a weapon of his choice and the kingdom if he kills even one of them; Duryodhana chooses the mace and a one-to-one fight. Goaded, he bursts from the water, mace in hand, arms himself in golden armour, and calls on any one of the Pandavas to come forward.
