The Curse of the Moon and the Naming of Prabhasa
Janamejaya asks why Soma was seized by consumption and how he was restored. Vaishampayana tells how Daksha gave his twenty-seven daughters to Soma, how Soma favoured Rohini alone, and how Daksha, twice unheeded by him, cursed him with consumption. As Soma wasted, the herbs and then living beings failed; at the gods' plea Daksha ruled that the Moon would wane and wax by turns and bathe at the Sarasvati. Soma bathed at Prabhasa on the new-moon day and shone again, and Balarama then bathed there, gave gifts and went on to Chamasodbheda and Udapana.
