The Serpent Kinsmen Plead with the Fasting Brahmin

Distressed that the Brahmin is fasting by the Gomati, the brothers, sons and wives of the serpent go to him. On the sixth day they urge him to eat and offer their hospitality, saying that no embryo-killer or man who eats before gods, guests and kin has ever been born among them. The Brahmin replies that he fixed his fast for the eight nights the serpent will be away, and will eat if the serpent has not come by then. The serpents go home without having persuaded him.
