Verse 1 (12.41.1)

tato yudhiṣṭhiro rājā jñātīnāṃ ye hatā yudhi | śrāddhāni kārayāmāsa teṣāṃ pṛthagudāradhīḥ

Then King Yudhishthira, of noble mind, had the funeral rites performed separately for those of his kinsmen who had been killed in battle.

Note on the text: Adhyaya note: the page is the right adhyaya (rows labelled 12-41-1 to 12-41-12; the colophon reads एकचत्वारिंशोऽध्यायः । 41). Its text is the critical edition's 12.42.1-12 (the CE numbers this adhyaya 42; no star passages), verse for verse. The title line above the table is a heading, not a verse. The page ends with its colophon; the one gloss printed after the table (12-41-10, a variant reading) is not added, and no other block follows. Speaker: the page heads Vaishampayana for the whole adhyaya, all of it narration. Line 1 reads युधि where the CE has mṛdhe (recension variant).

Verse 2 (12.41.2)

dhṛtarāṣṭro dadau rājā putrāṇāmaurdhvadehikam | sarvakāmaguṇopetamannaṃ gāśca dhanāni ca | ratnāni ca vicitrāṇi mahārhāṇi mahāyaśāḥ

King Dhritarashtra gave the funeral gifts for his sons: food with every desirable quality, cows and wealth, and rare and costly jewels of many kinds, that king of great renown.

Verse 3 (12.41.3)

yudhiṣṭhirastu droṇasya karṇasya ca mahātmanaḥ | dhṛṣṭadyumnābhimanyubhyāṃ heḍimbasya ca rakṣasaḥ

And Yudhishthira did so for Drona, for the great-souled Karna, for Dhrishtadyumna and Abhimanyu, and for the rakshasa Haidimba.

Note on the text: Line 1 gives Drona before Karna; the CE has karṇasya droṇasya (recension variant).

Verse 4 (12.41.4)

virāṭaprabhṛtīnāṃ ca suhṛdāmupakāriṇām | drupadadraupadeyānāṃ draupadyā sahito dadau

For Virata and the others, his friends and benefactors, and for Drupada and the sons of Draupadi, he gave, together with Draupadi.

Verse 5 (12.41.5)

brāhmaṇānāṃ sahasrāṇi pṛthagekaikamuddiśan | dhanai ratnaiśca gobhiśca vastraiśca samatarpayat

Dedicating the gifts to each of the dead in turn, he satisfied thousands of brahmins with wealth, jewels, cows and clothing.

Note on the text: Line 2 differs from the critical edition (12.42.5: dhanaiś ca vastrai ratnaiś ca gobhiś ca samatarpayat); order of the items and the verb form, recension variants.

Verse 6 (12.41.6)

ye cānye pṛthivīpālā yeṣāṃ nāsti suhṛjjanaḥ | uddiśyoddiśya teṣāṃ ca cakre rājaurdhvadehikam

And for the other kings of the earth who had no friend left, the king performed the funeral rites, naming them one by one.

Verse 7 (12.41.7)

sabhāḥ prapāśca vividhāstaṭākāni ca pāṇḍavaḥ | suhṛdāṃ kārayāmāsa sarveṣāmaurdhvadehikam

The Pandava also had halls, water-sheds and many tanks built as the funeral rite for all his friends.

Verse 8 (12.41.8)

Having cleared his debt to them and passed beyond reproach in the worlds, the king felt his duty done, and ruled his subjects by dharma.

dhṛtarāṣṭraṃ yathāpūrvaṃ gāndhārīṃ viduraṃ tathā | sarvāṃśca kauravānmānyānbhṛtyāṃśca samapūjayat

Dhritarashtra, Gandhari and Vidura he honoured as before, and all the revered Kauravas and the servants as well.

Note on the text: Line 2 reads कौरवान्मान्यान् where the CE has kauravāmātyān (recension variant).

Verse 10 (12.41.10)

yāśca tatra striyaḥ kāściddhatavīrā hatātmajāḥ | sarvāstāḥ kauravo rājā saṃpūjyāpālayaddhṛṇī

And whatever women were there whose heroes and sons had been slain, the Kuru king, compassionate, honoured them all and protected them.

Note on the text: Corrected संपूज्यापालायद्धृणी → संपूज्यापालयद्धृणी (misprint in Wikisource; a stray ा after the ल; the critical edition reads saṃpūjyāpālayad ghṛṇī). The page prints a doubled danda after line 1; the input already has a single one.

Verse 11 (12.41.11)

dīnāndhakṛpaṇānāṃ ca gṛhācchādanabhojanaiḥ | ānṛśaṃsyaparo rājā cakārānugrahaṃ prabhuḥ
