Yudhishthira's Hymn to Krishna

Having been consecrated, Yudhishthira folds his hands before Krishna and credits the recovery of his ancestral kingdom to Krishna's grace and counsel. He then praises him with a long litany of his names and forms, from Vishvakarman, Vishnu and Hari to Keshava, as the source and dissolution of the universe. Krishna, pleased, answers him warmly in the midst of the assembly, and a closing verse promises freedom from sin to anyone who recites or hears these hundred names.

Note on the text: Adhyaya note: the page is the right adhyaya (rows labelled 12-42-1 to 12-42-18; the colophon reads द्विचत्वारिंशोऽध्यायः । 42). Its text is the critical edition's 12.43.1-17 (the CE numbers this adhyaya 43) plus a closing couplet that the CE prints only as a star passage. The title line above the table is a heading, not a verse. The page ends with its colophon; the glosses printed after the table (12-42-6, 7, 8, 9, 10, which quote variant readings) are not added, and no other block follows. Speakers: the page heads Vaishampayana (verses 1 and 17); verses 2-16 are Yudhishthira's hymn, unheaded, and are given to him (the input carried Vaishampayana over); verse 18, the closing couplet, stays under Vaishampayana's heading.

Verse 17 (12.42.17)

Praised thus by Dharmaraja, Krishna, the lotus-eyed, pleased in the midst of the assembly, welcomed the Bharata, the eldest Pandava, with rich words, he, the foremost of the Yadavas.

Note on the text: Four lines in the page's division (CE 12.43.17); line 3 ends mid-word (पुष्कलाभि । र्वाग्भिः for pūṣkalābhir vāgbhiḥ), as printed.

Verse 18 (12.42.18)

एतन्नामशतं विष्णोर्धर्मराजेन कीर्तितम् । यः पठेच्छृणुयाद्वापि सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते ॥

This hundred of Vishnu's names, recited by Dharmaraja: whoever recites it or hears it is freed from all sins.

Note on the text: Removed stray wiki marks (the opening backtick, the closing quote mark and the doubled danda printed inside line 2). Not in the critical edition's constituted text (found in the vulgate recension); the critical edition records it as the star passage 12.43.17d*0060 (lines 01-02, identical in wording). The page prints it in quote marks as a closing verse after the hymn, and it stays under Vaishampayana's heading.
