Draupadi's Lament and Krishna's Vow
Hearing the talk of peace, Draupadi turns to Krishna in grief. She recalls the five villages Yudhishthira asked for and Duryodhana refused, argues that enemies deaf to conciliation must be punished, and recounts how she, Drupada's daughter and the Pandavas' queen, was dragged by the hair into the assembly and made a slave. Holding out her long black hair, she asks Krishna to remember it whenever the enemy speak of peace, and weeps; Krishna comforts her and vows that the Kaurava women will soon weep and that his word will not fail.

Note on the text: Corrected जीवस्तु → जीवत्सु and दासीभाताऽस्मि → दासीभूताऽस्मि (misprints in Wikisource; critical edition jīvatsu, dāsībhūtāsmi). Wikisource's पाण्डुपुत्रेषु (critical edition kauraveyeṣu) is a recension variant and is kept.
