Krishna Sets Out for Hastinapura

Arjuna urges Krishna, a friend to both sides, to go and make peace with Duryodhana, warning that if the foolish prince rejects good counsel he will meet his fate, and Krishna agrees to go to Dhritarashtra. At dawn in the month of Kartika he performs his morning rites, has his weapons loaded and mounts his splendid Garuda-bannered chariot with Satyaki, while auspicious omens attend him and great seers walk around him in reverence. Yudhishthira, his brothers and the allied kings escort him a short way, and Yudhishthira embraces him and begins to give him his message.
