Whoever daily recites this with devotion and worships the sovereign goddess certainly obtains, without doubt, the fruit of a horse-sacrifice every single day.

aspaṣṭakīrtiḥ suyaśā mūrkho bhavati paṇḍitaḥ | yaḥ paṭhetprātarutthāya gaṅgāstotramidaṁ śubham
Whoever rises at dawn and recites this auspicious hymn to Ganga — even one of unclear reputation gains fair renown, and even a fool becomes a scholar.

even after a bad dream, good fortune follows, for one gains the fruit of the hymn to Ganga. Sri Narayana said: Having praised Ganga with this very hymn, Bhagiratha —
Verse 43 (devibhagavatam.9.12.43)
jagāma tāṁ gṛhītvā ca yatra naṣṭāśca sāgarāḥ | vaikuṇṭhaṁ te yayustūrṇaṁ gaṅgāyāḥ sparśavāyunā
took her and went to the place where the sons of Sagara had been reduced to ashes; and by the wind carrying Ganga's very touch, they went at once to Vaikuntha.
Verse 44 (devibhagavatam.9.12.44)
bhagīrathena sā nītā tena bhāgīrathī smṛtā | ityevaṁ kathitaṁ sarvaṁ gaṅgopākhyānamuttamam
Because she was brought by Bhagiratha, she is remembered as Bhagirathi; thus has this entire excellent story of Ganga been told.
Verse 45 (devibhagavatam.9.12.45)
puṇyadaṁ mokṣadaṁ sāraṁ kiṁ bhūyaḥ śrotumicchasi | nārada uvāca | kathaṁ gaṅgā tripathagā jātā bhuvanapāvanī
giver of merit, giver of liberation, and of the very essence — what more do you now wish to hear? Narada said: How did Ganga, purifier of the worlds, come to flow through all three realms?
Verse 46 (devibhagavatam.9.12.46)
kutra vā kena vidhinā tatsarvaṁ vada me prabho | tatrasthāśca janā ye ye te ca kiṁ cakruruttamam
Where, and by what method — tell me all this, my Lord; and what excellent deed did each and every person present there do?
Verse 47 (devibhagavatam.9.12.47)
etatsarvaṁ tu vistīrṇaṁ kṛtvā vaktumihārhasi | śrīnārāyaṇāya uvāca | kārtikyāṁ pūrṇimāyāṁ tu rādhāyāḥ sumahotsavaḥ
Please tell me all of this in full detail. Sri Narayana said: On the full moon of Kartika there was a great festival in honor of Radha.
Verse 48 (devibhagavatam.9.12.48)

Brahma and all the other gods, and the sages Shaunaka and the rest, remained there; and at that very moment, Sarasvati, in accompaniment to Krishna's music —
Verse 50 (devibhagavatam.9.12.50)
jagau sundaratālena vīṇayā ca manoharam | tuṣṭo brahmā dadau tasyai ratnendrasārahārakam
sang an enchanting song, with lovely rhythm, upon the vina. Pleased, Brahma gave her a necklace fashioned of the finest gems.
Verse 51 (devibhagavatam.9.12.51)

jagau śrīkṛṣṇasaṅgītaṁ rāsollāsasamanvitam | mūrcchāṁ prāpuḥ surāḥ sarve citraputtalikā yathā
sang a song to accompany Sri Krishna's music, filled with the ecstasy of the rasa dance; and all the gods fell into a swoon, motionless as painted dolls.
Verse 57 (devibhagavatam.9.12.57)
kaṣṭena cetanāṁ prāpya dadṛśū rāsamaṇḍale | sthalaṁ sarvaṁ jalākīrṇaṁ rādhākṛṣṇavihīnakam
Regaining consciousness only with great difficulty, they looked upon the rasa circle and found the whole ground flooded with water, and Radha and Krishna nowhere to be seen.
Verse 58 (devibhagavatam.9.12.58)
atyuccai ruruduḥ sarve gopā gopyaḥ surā dvijāḥ | dhyānena brahmā bubudhe sarvaṁ tīrthamabhīpsitam
All the cowherds, cowherd maidens, gods, and brahmins wept aloud; through meditation, Brahma understood that all this was indeed the longed-for sacred water.
Verse 59 (devibhagavatam.9.12.59)
gataśca rādhayā sārdhaṁ śrīkṛṣṇo dravatāmiti | tato brahmādayaḥ sarve tuṣṭuvuḥ parameśvaram
Sri Krishna, together with Radha, had dissolved into this very liquid form — realizing this, Brahma and all the others then praised the Supreme Lord.
Verse 60 (devibhagavatam.9.12.60)
svamūrtiṁ darśaya vibho vāñchitaṁ varameva naḥ | etasminnantare tatra vāgbabhūvāśarīriṇī
O all-pervading Lord, show us your own form once more — this alone is the boon we desire. At that very moment there arose there a disembodied voice.
Verse 61 (devibhagavatam.9.12.61)
tāmeva śuśruvuḥ sarve suvyaktāṁ madhurānvitām | sarvātmāhamiyaṁ śaktirbhaktānugrahavigrahā
All of them heard that voice, clear and sweet: I am the Self of all; this Power takes form solely to bestow grace upon devotees.
Verse 62 (devibhagavatam.9.12.62)
mamāpyasyāśca dehena kartavyaṁ ca kimāvayoḥ | manavo mānavāḥ sarve munayaścaiva vaiṣṇavāḥ
What is now to be done by us both, through my own body and hers — hear this: all the Manus, all humans, all sages, and all Vaishnavas —
Verse 63 (devibhagavatam.9.12.63)
manmantrapūtā māṁ draṣṭumāgamiṣyanti matpadam | mūrtiṁ draṣṭuṁ ca suvyaktāṁ yadīcchatha sureśvarāḥ
purified by my mantra, they shall come to my own abode to behold me. O lords of the gods, if you wish to see my form manifest and clear —
Verse 64 (devibhagavatam.9.12.64)
karotu śambhustatraivaṁ madīyaṁ vākyapālanam | svayaṁ vidhātastvaṁ brahmannājñāṁ kuru jagadgurum
then let Shambhu himself carry out this instruction of mine. O Brahma, O ordainer, you yourself give this command to that teacher of the world —
Verse 65 (devibhagavatam.9.12.65)
kartuṁ śāstraviśeṣaṁ ca vedāṅgaṁ sumanoharam | apūrvamantranikaraiḥ sarvābhīṣṭaphalapradaiḥ
to compose a special scripture, a most enchanting auxiliary Vedic text, composed of an unprecedented collection of mantras, granting every desired fruit —
Verse 66 (devibhagavatam.9.12.66)
stotraiśca nikarairdhyānairyutaṁ pūjāvidhikramaiḥ | manmantrakavacastotraṁ kṛtvā yatnena gopanam
joined with hosts of hymns, meditations, and prescribed orders of worship; and having composed my mantra, protective armor, and hymn, let him carefully keep it secret.
Verse 67 (devibhagavatam.9.12.67)
bhavanti vimukhā yena janā māṁ tatkariṣyati | sahasreṣu śateṣveko manmantropāsako bhavet
let him do so in such a way that people do not turn away from me; only one among many thousands shall become a worshipper of my mantra.
Verse 68 (devibhagavatam.9.12.68)
janā manmantrapūtāśca gamiṣyanti ca matpadam | anyathā na bhaviṣyanti sarve golokavāsinaḥ
Only those people purified by my mantra shall go to my own abode; otherwise not all could become dwellers in Goloka.
Verse 69 (devibhagavatam.9.12.69)
niṣkalaṁ bhavitā sarvaṁ brahmāṇḍaṁ caiva brahmaṇaḥ | janāḥ pañcaprakārāśca yuktāḥ sraṣṭuṁ bhave bhave
otherwise, Brahma's entire cosmic egg would become fruitless; for in birth after birth, five kinds of people are needed to sustain creation.
Verse 70 (devibhagavatam.9.12.70)
pṛthivīvāsinaḥ kecitkecitsvarganivāsinaḥ | idaṁ kartuṁ mahādevaḥ karoti devasaṁsadi
some dwelling on earth, and some dwelling in heaven. To accomplish this task, Mahadeva, in the assembly of the gods —
Verse 71 (devibhagavatam.9.12.71)
pratijñāṁ sudṛḍhāṁ sadyastato mūrtiṁ ca drakṣyati | ityevamuktvā gagane virarāma sanātanaḥ
shall at once make a firm vow, and only then shall you all behold that form once more — having said this, that eternal voice fell silent in the sky.
Verse 72 (devibhagavatam.9.12.72)
tacchrutvā jagatāṁ dhātā tamuvāca śivaṁ mudā | brahmaṇo vacanaṁ śrutvā jñāneśo jñānināṁ varaḥ
Hearing this, Brahma, the ordainer of the world, joyfully spoke to Shiva; and hearing Brahma's words, Shiva, lord of knowledge, foremost among the wise —
Verse 73 (devibhagavatam.9.12.73)
gaṅgātoyaṁ kare kṛtvā svīkāraṁ ca cakāra saḥ | saṁyuktaṁ viṣṇumāyāyā mantraughaiḥ śāstramuttamam
taking Ganga's own water in his hand, gave his solemn word that he would compose that excellent scripture, joined with the collections of Vishnumaya's mantras —
Verse 74 (devibhagavatam.9.12.74)
vedasāraṁ kariṣyāmi pratijñāpālanāya ca | gaṅgātoyamupasmṛśya mithyā yadi vadejjanaḥ
the very essence of the Vedas, in fulfillment of his vow. Should any person, having touched Ganga's water, speak falsely —
Verse 75 (devibhagavatam.9.12.75)
sa yāti kālasūtraṁ ca yāvadvai brahmaṇo vayaḥ | ityukte śaṅkare brahman goloke surasaṁsadi
he goes to the hell called Kalasutra for a span equal to the lifetime of Brahma — O brahmin, as soon as Shankara had spoken thus, in the assembly of the gods in Goloka —
Verse 76 (devibhagavatam.9.12.76)
āvirbabhūva śrīkṛṣṇo rādhayā sahitastataḥ | taṁ sudṛṣṭvā ca saṁhṛṣṭāstuṣṭuvuḥ puruṣottamam
Sri Krishna, together with Radha, appeared once more; beholding him, all were filled with delight and praised that Supreme Person.
Verse 77 (devibhagavatam.9.12.77)
paramānandapūrṇāśca cakuśca punarutsavam | kālena śambhurbhagavān muktidīpaṁ cakāra saḥ
Filled with supreme bliss, they celebrated the festival once more; and in the course of time, the Blessed Shambhu composed that lamp of liberation, the scripture.
Verse 78 (devibhagavatam.9.12.78)
ityevaṁ kathitaṁ sarvaṁ sugopyaṁ ca sudurlabham | sa eva dravarūpā sā gaṅgā golokasambhavā
Thus has this whole secret and most rarely-attained truth been told; that very same Ganga, of liquid form, took her birth in Goloka.
Verse 79 (devibhagavatam.9.12.79)
rādhākṛṣṇāṅgasambhūtā bhuktimuktiphalapradā | sthāne sthāne sthāpitā sā kṛṣṇena ca parātmanā | kṛṣṇasvarūpā paramā sarvabrahmāṇḍapūjitā
Born from the very bodies of Radha and Krishna, she grants the fruit of both enjoyment and liberation; she was established by Krishna, the Supreme Self, in place after place; she is Krishna's own supreme form, and is worshipped throughout all the cosmic eggs.
