Verse 1 (devibhagavatam.9.42.1)

नारद उवाच । हरेरुत्कीर्तनं भद्रं श्रुतं तज्ज्ञानमुत्तमम् । ईप्सितं लक्ष्म्युपाख्यानं ध्यानं स्तोत्रं वद प्रभो

nārada uvāca | harerutkīrtanaṁ bhadraṁ śrutaṁ tajjñānamuttamam | īpsitaṁ lakṣmyupākhyānaṁ dhyānaṁ stotraṁ vada prabho

Narada said: Auspicious is the chanting of Hari's glory; I have heard that excellent knowledge. Now, O Lord, tell me the desired meditation and hymn from the story of Lakshmi.

Verse 2 (devibhagavatam.9.42.2)

श्रीनारायण उवाच । स्नात्वा तीर्थे पुरा शक्रो धृत्वा धौते च वाससी । घटं संस्थाप्य क्षीरोदे षड्देवान् पर्यपूजयत्

śrīnārāyaṇa uvāca | snātvā tīrthe purā śakro dhṛtvā dhaute ca vāsasī | ghaṭaṁ saṁsthāpya kṣīrode ṣaḍdevān paryapūjayat

Shri Narayana said: Of old, having bathed at a sacred ford and put on two washed garments, Indra, having set up a water-pot filled from the Ocean of Milk, worshipped the six deities.

Verse 3 (devibhagavatam.9.42.3)

गणेशं च दिनेशं च वह्निं विष्णुं शिवं शिवाम् । एतान् भक्त्या समभ्यर्च्य पुष्पगन्धादिभिस्तदा

gaṇeśaṁ ca dineśaṁ ca vahniṁ viṣṇuṁ śivaṁ śivām | etān bhaktyā samabhyarcya puṣpagandhādibhistadā

Ganesha, the Sun, Fire, Vishnu, Shiva, and Shiva's consort — having worshipped these with devotion, with flowers, fragrance, and the rest, then —

Verse 4 (devibhagavatam.9.42.4)

आवाह्य च महालक्ष्मीं परमैश्वर्यरूपिणीम् । पूजाञ्चकार देवेशो ब्रह्मणा च पुरोधसा

āvāhya ca mahālakṣmīṁ paramaiśvaryarūpiṇīm | pūjāñcakāra deveśo brahmaṇā ca purodhasā

— having invoked Mahalakshmi, embodiment of supreme lordship, the lord of the gods performed her worship, together with Brahma as officiating priest.

Verse 5 (devibhagavatam.9.42.5)

पुरःस्थितेषु मुनिषु ब्राह्मणेषु गुरौ हरौ । देवादिषु सुदेशे च ज्ञानानन्दं शिवे मुने

puraḥsthiteṣu muniṣu brāhmaṇeṣu gurau harau | devādiṣu sudeśe ca jñānānandaṁ śive mune

In the presence of the sages, the Brahmins, the guru, Hari, the gods and others, in a fitting place, O sage, with knowledge and bliss —

Verse 6 (devibhagavatam.9.42.6)

पारिजातस्य पुष्पं च गृहीत्वा चन्दनोक्षितम् । ध्यात्वा देवीं महालक्ष्मीं पूजयामास नारद

pārijātasya puṣpaṁ ca gṛhītvā candanokṣitam | dhyātvā devīṁ mahālakṣmīṁ pūjayāmāsa nārada

— taking a parijata flower anointed with sandalwood, and meditating upon the Devi Mahalakshmi, O Narada, he performed her worship.

Verse 7 (devibhagavatam.9.42.7)

ध्यानं च सामवेदोक्तं यद्दत्तं ब्रह्मणे पुरा । हरिणा तेन ध्यानेन तन्निबोध वदामि ते

dhyānaṁ ca sāmavedoktaṁ yaddattaṁ brahmaṇe purā | hariṇā tena dhyānena tannibodha vadāmi te

The meditation-verse taught in the Samaveda, which Hari himself gave to Brahma of old — by that very meditation he worshipped her; hear it now, I shall tell it to you.

Verse 8 (devibhagavatam.9.42.8)

सहस्रदलपद्मस्थकर्णिकावासिनीं पराम् । शरत्पार्वणकोटीन्दुप्रभामुष्टिकरां पराम्

sahasradalapadmasthakarṇikāvāsinīṁ parām | śaratpārvaṇakoṭīnduprabhāmuṣṭikarāṁ parām

One should meditate upon her as the supreme one dwelling in the pericarp of the thousand-petaled lotus, radiant as ten million autumn full moons, her hand held in a bestowing gesture,

Verse 9 (devibhagavatam.9.42.9)

स्वतेजसा प्रज्वलन्तीं सुखदृश्यां मनोहराम् । प्रतप्तकाञ्चननिभशोभां मूर्तिमतीं सतीम्

svatejasā prajvalantīṁ sukhadṛśyāṁ manoharām | prataptakāñcananibhaśobhāṁ mūrtimatīṁ satīm

blazing with her own splendor, pleasant to behold, enchanting, radiant as heated gold, embodied, virtuous,

Verse 10 (devibhagavatam.9.42.10)

रत्नभूषणभूषाढ्यां शोभितां पीतवाससा । ईषद्धास्यप्रसन्नास्यां शश्वत्सुस्थिरयौवनाम्

ratnabhūṣaṇabhūṣāḍhyāṁ śobhitāṁ pītavāsasā | īṣaddhāsyaprasannāsyāṁ śaśvatsusthirayauvanām

richly adorned with jeweled ornaments, resplendent in yellow garments, her face gently smiling and joyful, ever fixed in unfading youth,

Verse 11 (devibhagavatam.9.42.11)

सर्वसम्पत्प्रदात्रीं च महालक्ष्मीं भजे शुभाम् । ध्यानेनानेन तां ध्यात्वा नानागुणसमन्विताम्

sarvasampatpradātrīṁ ca mahālakṣmīṁ bhaje śubhām | dhyānenānena tāṁ dhyātvā nānāguṇasamanvitām

— I worship the auspicious Mahalakshmi, bestower of all prosperity. Meditating upon her thus, endowed with manifold qualities,

Verse 12 (devibhagavatam.9.42.12)

सम्पूज्य ब्रह्मवाक्येन चोपचाराणि षोडश । ददौ भक्त्या विधानेन प्रत्येकं मन्त्रपूर्वकम्

sampūjya brahmavākyena copacārāṇi ṣoḍaśa | dadau bhaktyā vidhānena pratyekaṁ mantrapūrvakam

he worshipped her, by Brahma's guidance, with the sixteen offerings, presenting each one with devotion, according to rule, preceded each time by its mantra:

Verse 13 (devibhagavatam.9.42.13)

प्रशस्तानि प्रकृष्टानि वराणि विविधानि च । अमूल्यरत्नसारं च निर्मितं विश्वकर्मणा

praśastāni prakṛṣṭāni varāṇi vividhāni ca | amūlyaratnasāraṁ ca nirmitaṁ viśvakarmaṇā

"Excellent, superior, choice, and varied — an invaluable essence of gems, fashioned by Vishvakarma —

Verse 14 (devibhagavatam.9.42.14)

आसनं च विचित्रं च महालक्ष्मि प्रगृह्यताम् । शुद्धं गङ्गोदकमिदं सर्ववन्दितमीप्सितम्

āsanaṁ ca vicitraṁ ca mahālakṣmi pragṛhyatām | śuddhaṁ gaṅgodakamidaṁ sarvavanditamīpsitam

"— accept, O Mahalakshmi, this wondrous seat. And accept this pure Ganga-water, revered by all, the water you desire —

Verse 15 (devibhagavatam.9.42.15)

पापेध्मवह्निरूपं च गृह्यतां कमलालये । पुष्पचन्दनदूर्वादिसंयुतं जाह्नवीजलम्

pāpedhmavahnirūpaṁ ca gṛhyatāṁ kamalālaye | puṣpacandanadūrvādisaṁyutaṁ jāhnavījalam

"— which is like a fire to the fuel of sin — accept it, O Dweller in the Lotus. Accept this Ganga-water mixed with flowers, sandalwood, and durva grass —

Verse 16 (devibhagavatam.9.42.16)

शङ्खगर्भस्थितं स्वर्घ्यं गृह्यतां पद्मवासिनि । सुगन्धिपुष्पतैलं च सुगन्धामलकीफलम्

śaṅkhagarbhasthitaṁ svarghyaṁ gṛhyatāṁ padmavāsini | sugandhipuṣpatailaṁ ca sugandhāmalakīphalam

"— held within a conch, this offering of water — accept it, O Lotus-dweller. Accept this fragrant flower-oil and this fragrant amalaki fruit —

Verse 17 (devibhagavatam.9.42.17)

देहसौन्दर्यबीजं च गृह्यतां श्रीहरेः प्रिये । कार्पासजं च कृमिजं वसनं देवि गृह्यताम्

dehasaundaryabījaṁ ca gṛhyatāṁ śrīhareḥ priye | kārpāsajaṁ ca kṛmijaṁ vasanaṁ devi gṛhyatām

"— the very seed of bodily beauty — accept it, O beloved of Shri Hari. Accept, O Devi, this garment, born of cotton and of silk —

Verse 18 (devibhagavatam.9.42.18)

रत्नस्वर्णविकारं च देहभूषाविवर्धनम् । शोभायै श्रीकरं रत्नं भूषणं देवि गृह्यताम्

ratnasvarṇavikāraṁ ca dehabhūṣāvivardhanam | śobhāyai śrīkaraṁ ratnaṁ bhūṣaṇaṁ devi gṛhyatām

"— accept, O Devi, this ornament wrought of gems and gold, which enhances the adornment of the body, bestowing beauty and glory —

Verse 19 (devibhagavatam.9.42.19)

सर्वसौन्दर्यबीजं च सद्यः शोभाकरं परम् । वृक्षनिर्यासरूपं च गन्धद्रव्यादिसंयुतम्

sarvasaundaryabījaṁ ca sadyaḥ śobhākaraṁ param | vṛkṣaniryāsarūpaṁ ca gandhadravyādisaṁyutam

"— the very seed of all beauty, at once conferring supreme radiance. And this incense, made of tree-resin mixed with fragrant substances —

Verse 20 (devibhagavatam.9.42.20)

श्रीकृष्णकान्ते धूपं च पवित्रं प्रतिगृह्यताम् । सुगन्धियुक्तं सुखदं चन्दनं देवि गृह्यताम्

śrīkṛṣṇakānte dhūpaṁ ca pavitraṁ pratigṛhyatām | sugandhiyuktaṁ sukhadaṁ candanaṁ devi gṛhyatām

"— O beloved of Shri Krishna, accept this pure incense. Accept, O Devi, this fragrant, pleasing sandalwood paste —

Verse 21 (devibhagavatam.9.42.21)

जगच्चक्षुःस्वरूपं च पवित्रं तिमिरापहम् । प्रदीपं सुखरूपं च गृह्यतां च सुरेश्वरि

jagaccakṣuḥsvarūpaṁ ca pavitraṁ timirāpaham | pradīpaṁ sukharūpaṁ ca gṛhyatāṁ ca sureśvari

"— accept, O Queen of the gods, this lamp, of the very nature of the world's eye, pure, dispelling darkness, and of the nature of joy —

Verse 22 (devibhagavatam.9.42.22)

नानोपहाररूपं च नानारससमन्वितम् । अतिस्वादुकरं चैव नैवेद्यं प्रतिगृह्यताम्

nānopahārarūpaṁ ca nānārasasamanvitam | atisvādukaraṁ caiva naivedyaṁ pratigṛhyatām

"— accept this food-offering, manifold in its dishes, endowed with various flavors, and most delicious —

Verse 23 (devibhagavatam.9.42.23)

अन्नं ब्रह्मस्वरूपं च प्राणरक्षणकारणम् । तुष्टिदं पुष्टिदं चैव देव्यन्नं प्रतिगृह्यताम्

annaṁ brahmasvarūpaṁ ca prāṇarakṣaṇakāraṇam | tuṣṭidaṁ puṣṭidaṁ caiva devyannaṁ pratigṛhyatām

"— accept, O Devi, this food, itself the very form of Brahman, the cause of preserving life, giving satisfaction and giving nourishment —

Verse 24 (devibhagavatam.9.42.24)

शाल्यन्नजं सुपक्वं च शर्करागव्यसंयुतम् । स्वादुयुक्तं महालक्ष्मि परमान्नं प्रगृह्यताम्

śālyannajaṁ supakvaṁ ca śarkarāgavyasaṁyutam | svāduyuktaṁ mahālakṣmi paramānnaṁ pragṛhyatām

"— accept, O Mahalakshmi, this excellent rice-pudding, made from well-cooked rice mixed with sugar and milk, most delicious —

Verse 25 (devibhagavatam.9.42.25)

शर्करागव्यपक्वं च सुस्वादु सुमनोहरम् । स्वस्तिकं नाम नैवेद्यं गृहाण परमेश्वरि

śarkarāgavyapakvaṁ ca susvādu sumanoharam | svastikaṁ nāma naivedyaṁ gṛhāṇa parameśvari

"— accept, O Supreme Goddess, this offering called Svastika, cooked with sugar and milk, most delicious and most enchanting —

Verse 26 (devibhagavatam.9.42.26)

नानाविधानि रम्याणि पक्वान्नानि फलानि च । सुरभिस्तनसन्त्यक्तं सुस्वादु सुमनोहरम्

nānāvidhāni ramyāṇi pakvānnāni phalāni ca | surabhistanasantyaktaṁ susvādu sumanoharam

"— accept these various delightful cooked dishes and fruits, and this most delicious, most enchanting milk released from Surabhi's udder —

Verse 27 (devibhagavatam.9.42.27)

मर्त्यामृतं सुगव्यं च गृह्यतामच्युतप्रिये । सुस्वादु रससंयुक्तमिक्षुवृक्षसमुद्भवम्

martyāmṛtaṁ sugavyaṁ ca gṛhyatāmacyutapriye | susvādu rasasaṁyuktamikṣuvṛkṣasamudbhavam

"— accept, O beloved of Achyuta, this fine milk, mortal-nectar. Accept this most delicious juice-laden sweet born of the sugarcane —

Verse 28 (devibhagavatam.9.42.28)

अग्निपक्वमतिस्वादु गुडं च प्रतिगृह्यताम् । यवगोधूमसस्यानां चूर्णरेणुसमुद्भवम्

agnipakvamatisvādu guḍaṁ ca pratigṛhyatām | yavagodhūmasasyānāṁ cūrṇareṇusamudbhavam

"— accept this most delicious jaggery, cooked over fire. And accept these sweets born of the powdered flour of barley and wheat —

Verse 29 (devibhagavatam.9.42.29)

सुपक्वं गुडगव्याक्तं मिष्टान्नं देवि गृह्यताम् । सस्यचूर्णोद्भवं पक्वं स्वस्तिकादिसमन्वितम्

supakvaṁ guḍagavyāktaṁ miṣṭānnaṁ devi gṛhyatām | sasyacūrṇodbhavaṁ pakvaṁ svastikādisamanvitam

"— accept, O Devi, this sweet food, well-cooked, blended with jaggery and milk, made from grain-flour, cooked, together with the svastika-cakes and the rest —

Verse 30 (devibhagavatam.9.42.30)

मया निवेदितं भक्त्या नैवेद्यं प्रतिगृह्यताम् । शीतवायुप्रदं चैव दाहे च सुखदं परम्

mayā niveditaṁ bhaktyā naivedyaṁ pratigṛhyatām | śītavāyupradaṁ caiva dāhe ca sukhadaṁ param

"— accept this food-offering, presented by me with devotion. And accept this fan, giving cool breeze, most soothing in the heat —

Verse 31 (devibhagavatam.9.42.31)

कमले गृह्यतां चेदं व्यजनं श्वेतचामरम् । ताम्बूलं च वरं रम्यं कर्पूरादिसुवासितम्

kamale gṛhyatāṁ cedaṁ vyajanaṁ śvetacāmaram | tāmbūlaṁ ca varaṁ ramyaṁ karpūrādisuvāsitam

"— accept it, O Lotus one, this white fan of yak-hair. And accept this excellent, delightful betel-leaf, sweetly scented with camphor and the rest —

Verse 32 (devibhagavatam.9.42.32)

जिह्वाजाड्यच्छेदकरं ताम्बूलं प्रतिगृह्यताम् । सुवासितं सुशीतं च पिपासानाशकारणम्

jihvājāḍyacchedakaraṁ tāmbūlaṁ pratigṛhyatām | suvāsitaṁ suśītaṁ ca pipāsānāśakāraṇam

"— accept this betel, which removes dullness of the tongue. Accept this sweetly scented, cool water, the cause of quenching thirst —

Verse 33 (devibhagavatam.9.42.33)

जगज्जीवनरूपं च जीवनं देवि गृह्यताम् । देहसौन्दर्यबीजं च सदा शोभाविवर्धनम्

jagajjīvanarūpaṁ ca jīvanaṁ devi gṛhyatām | dehasaundaryabījaṁ ca sadā śobhāvivardhanam

"— accept, O Devi, this water, the very life-form of the world, the water of life. Accept also the seed of bodily beauty, ever enhancing radiance —

Verse 34 (devibhagavatam.9.42.34)

कार्पासजं च कृमिजं वसनं देवि गृह्यताम् । रक्तस्वर्णविकारं च देहभूषादिवर्धनम्

kārpāsajaṁ ca kṛmijaṁ vasanaṁ devi gṛhyatām | raktasvarṇavikāraṁ ca dehabhūṣādivardhanam

"— accept, O Devi, this garment, born of cotton and of silk. Accept this ornament wrought of ruby and gold, enhancing the body's adornment —

Verse 35 (devibhagavatam.9.42.35)

शोभाधारं श्रीकरं च भूषणं देवि गृह्यताम् । नानाऋतुषु निर्माणं बहुशोभाश्रयं परम्

śobhādhāraṁ śrīkaraṁ ca bhūṣaṇaṁ devi gṛhyatām | nānāṛtuṣu nirmāṇaṁ bahuśobhāśrayaṁ param

"— accept, O Devi, this ornament, the very seat of splendor, bestowing glory. Accept this garland fashioned in various seasons, the very refuge of manifold beauty —

Verse 36 (devibhagavatam.9.42.36)

सुरभूपप्रियं शुद्धं माल्यं देवि प्रगृह्यताम् । शुद्धिदं शुद्धरूपं च सर्वमङ्गलमङ्गलम्

surabhūpapriyaṁ śuddhaṁ mālyaṁ devi pragṛhyatām | śuddhidaṁ śuddharūpaṁ ca sarvamaṅgalamaṅgalam

"— accept, O Devi, this pure garland, dear to the lord of the gods, purifying, of pure nature, the auspiciousness of all that is auspicious —

Verse 37 (devibhagavatam.9.42.37)

गन्धवस्तूद्भवं रम्यं गन्धं देवि प्रगृह्यताम् । पुण्यतीर्थोदकं चैव विशुद्धं शुद्धिदं सदा

gandhavastūdbhavaṁ ramyaṁ gandhaṁ devi pragṛhyatām | puṇyatīrthodakaṁ caiva viśuddhaṁ śuddhidaṁ sadā

"— accept, O Devi, this delightful fragrance, born of fragrant substances. And accept this water from a sacred ford, ever pure and ever purifying —

Verse 38 (devibhagavatam.9.42.38)

गृह्यतां कृष्णकान्ते त्वं रम्यमाचमनीयकम् । रत्नसारादिनिर्माणं पुष्पचन्दनचर्चितम्

gṛhyatāṁ kṛṣṇakānte tvaṁ ramyamācamanīyakam | ratnasārādinirmāṇaṁ puṣpacandanacarcitam

"— accept it, O beloved of Krishna, this delightful sipping-water. Accept this excellent couch, made of the finest gems, anointed with flowers and sandalwood —

Verse 39 (devibhagavatam.9.42.39)

रत्नभूषणभूषाढ्यं सुतल्पं देवि गृह्यताम् । यद्यद् द्रव्यमपूर्वं च पृथिव्यामपि दुर्लभम्

ratnabhūṣaṇabhūṣāḍhyaṁ sutalpaṁ devi gṛhyatām | yadyad dravyamapūrvaṁ ca pṛthivyāmapi durlabham

"— accept, O Devi, this fine couch, richly adorned with jeweled ornaments. Whatever unprecedented object exists, rare even upon this earth —

Verse 40 (devibhagavatam.9.42.40)

देवभूषार्हभोग्यं च तद् द्रव्यं देवि गृह्यताम् । द्रव्याण्येतानि दत्त्वा च मूलेन देवपुङ्गवः

devabhūṣārhabhogyaṁ ca tad dravyaṁ devi gṛhyatām | dravyāṇyetāni dattvā ca mūlena devapuṅgavaḥ

"— fit to adorn and be enjoyed by the gods — accept that object too, O Devi." Having offered all these articles, the foremost of gods, with the root-mantra,

Verse 41 (devibhagavatam.9.42.41)

मूलं जजाप भक्त्या च दशलक्षं विधानतः । जपेन दशलक्षेण मन्त्रसिद्धिर्बभूव ह

mūlaṁ jajāpa bhaktyā ca daśalakṣaṁ vidhānataḥ | japena daśalakṣeṇa mantrasiddhirbabhūva ha

recited the root-mantra with devotion, one million times, according to rule; and by that recitation of one million times, the mantra's power came to full fruition.

Verse 42 (devibhagavatam.9.42.42)

मन्त्रश्च ब्रह्मणा दत्तः कल्पवृक्षश्च सर्वतः । लक्ष्मीर्माया कामवाणी ङेऽन्ता कमलवासिनी

mantraśca brahmaṇā dattaḥ kalpavṛkṣaśca sarvataḥ | lakṣmīrmāyā kāmavāṇī ṅe'ntā kamalavāsinī

That mantra, given by Brahma, is like a wish-fulfilling tree to all — composed of the seed-syllables "Lakshmī, Māyā, Kāmavāṇī", ending in "ṅe", and "Kamalavāsinī" —

Verse 43 (devibhagavatam.9.42.43)

वैदिको मन्त्रराजोऽयं प्रसिद्धः स्वाहयान्वितः । कुबेरोऽनेन मन्त्रेण परमैश्वर्यमाप्तवान्

vaidiko mantrarājo'yaṁ prasiddhaḥ svāhayānvitaḥ | kubero'nena mantreṇa paramaiśvaryamāptavān

This Vedic king of mantras is renowned, ending with "svāhā". By this very mantra, Kubera obtained his supreme lordship.

Verse 44 (devibhagavatam.9.42.44)

राजराजेश्वरो दक्षः सावर्णिर्मनुरेव च । मङ्गलोऽनेन मन्त्रेण सप्तद्वीपेऽवनीपतिः

rājarājeśvaro dakṣaḥ sāvarṇirmanureva ca | maṅgalo'nena mantreṇa saptadvīpe'vanīpatiḥ

By this mantra, one became the King of Kings; Daksha, and Savarni Manu himself, and Mangala became lord of the earth's seven continents.

Verse 45 (devibhagavatam.9.42.45)

प्रियव्रतोत्तानपादौ केदारो नृप एव च । एते सिद्धाश्च राजेन्द्रा मन्त्रेणानेन नारद

priyavratottānapādau kedāro nṛpa eva ca | ete siddhāśca rājendrā mantreṇānena nārada

Priyavrata and Uttanapada, and King Kedara as well — O Narada, these great kings attained perfection by this very mantra.

Verse 46 (devibhagavatam.9.42.46)

सिद्धे मन्त्रे महालक्ष्मीः शक्राय दर्शनं ददौ । रत्नेन्द्रसारनिर्माणविमानस्था वरप्रदा

siddhe mantre mahālakṣmīḥ śakrāya darśanaṁ dadau | ratnendrasāranirmāṇavimānasthā varapradā

When the mantra was thus perfected, Mahalakshmi granted her vision to Indra — the boon-giver, seated in a celestial chariot fashioned from the finest of gems —

Verse 47 (devibhagavatam.9.42.47)

सप्तद्वीपवतीं पृथ्वीं छादयन्ती त्विषा च सा । श्वेतचम्पकवर्णाभा रत्नभूषणभूषिता

saptadvīpavatīṁ pṛthvīṁ chādayantī tviṣā ca sā | śvetacampakavarṇābhā ratnabhūṣaṇabhūṣitā

covering with her radiance the earth with its seven continents, radiant with the hue of the white champaka, adorned with jeweled ornaments,

Verse 48 (devibhagavatam.9.42.48)

ईषद्धास्यप्रसन्नास्या भक्तानुग्रहकातरा । बिभ्रती रत्नमालां च कोटिचन्द्रसमप्रभाम्

īṣaddhāsyaprasannāsyā bhaktānugrahakātarā | bibhratī ratnamālāṁ ca koṭicandrasamaprabhām

her face gently smiling and joyful, eager to bestow grace upon her devotees, wearing a garland of jewels radiant as ten million moons.

Verse 49 (devibhagavatam.9.42.49)

दृष्ट्वा जगत्प्रसूं शान्तां तुष्टावैतां पुरन्दरः । पुलकाञ्चितसर्वाङ्गः साश्रुनेत्रः कृताञ्जलिः

dṛṣṭvā jagatprasūṁ śāntāṁ tuṣṭāvaitāṁ purandaraḥ | pulakāñcitasarvāṅgaḥ sāśrunetraḥ kṛtāñjaliḥ

Seeing the peaceful Mother of the universe, Purandara praised her, his whole body thrilled with rapture, his eyes filled with tears, his hands joined in reverence,

Verse 50 (devibhagavatam.9.42.50)

ब्रह्मणा च प्रदत्तेन स्तोत्रराजेन संयुतः । सर्वाभीष्टप्रदेनैव वैदिकेनैव तत्र च

brahmaṇā ca pradattena stotrarājena saṁyutaḥ | sarvābhīṣṭapradenaiva vaidikenaiva tatra ca

with the king of hymns given by Brahma, that Vedic hymn which grants every desire —

Verse 51 (devibhagavatam.9.42.51)

पुरन्दर उवाच । नमः कमलवासिन्यै नारायण्यै नमो नमः । कृष्णप्रियायै सततं महालक्ष्यै नमो नमः

purandara uvāca | namaḥ kamalavāsinyai nārāyaṇyai namo namaḥ | kṛṣṇapriyāyai satataṁ mahālakṣyai namo namaḥ

Purandara said: "Salutations to the Dweller in the Lotus, salutations again and again to Narayani; salutations again and again to Mahalakshmi, ever the beloved of Krishna.

Verse 52 (devibhagavatam.9.42.52)

पद्मपत्रेक्षणायै च पद्मास्यायै नमो नमः । पद्मासनायै पद्मिन्यै वैष्णव्यै च नमो नमः

padmapatrekṣaṇāyai ca padmāsyāyai namo namaḥ | padmāsanāyai padminyai vaiṣṇavyai ca namo namaḥ

"Salutations again and again to her whose eyes are like lotus petals, whose face is like a lotus; salutations to her who is seated on the lotus, the lotus-lady, Vaishnavi.

Verse 53 (devibhagavatam.9.42.53)

सर्वसम्पत्स्वरूपिण्यै सर्वाराध्यै नमो नमः । हरिभक्तिप्रदात्र्यै च हर्षदात्र्यै नमो नमः

sarvasampatsvarūpiṇyai sarvārādhyai namo namaḥ | haribhaktipradātryai ca harṣadātryai namo namaḥ

"Salutations again and again to her who is the very form of all prosperity, worshipped by all; salutations to her who bestows devotion to Hari and gives joy.

Verse 54 (devibhagavatam.9.42.54)

कृष्णवक्षःस्थितायै च कृष्णेशायै नमो नमः । चन्द्रशोभास्वरूपायै रत्नपद्मे च शोभने

kṛṣṇavakṣaḥsthitāyai ca kṛṣṇeśāyai namo namaḥ | candraśobhāsvarūpāyai ratnapadme ca śobhane

"Salutations to her who dwells upon Krishna's chest, the mistress of Krishna; to her whose beauty is like the moon, resplendent, seated on a jeweled lotus.

Verse 55 (devibhagavatam.9.42.55)

सम्पत्त्यधिष्ठातृदेव्यै महादेव्यै नमो नमः । नमो वृद्धिस्वरूपायै वृद्धिदायै नमो नमः

sampattyadhiṣṭhātṛdevyai mahādevyai namo namaḥ | namo vṛddhisvarūpāyai vṛddhidāyai namo namaḥ

"Salutations again and again to the great Devi, the presiding deity of prosperity; salutations to her who is the very form of increase, who bestows increase.

Verse 56 (devibhagavatam.9.42.56)

वैकुण्ठे या महालक्ष्मीर्या लक्ष्मीः क्षीरसागरे । स्वर्गलक्ष्मीरिन्द्रगेहे राजलक्ष्मीर्नृपालये

vaikuṇṭhe yā mahālakṣmīryā lakṣmīḥ kṣīrasāgare | svargalakṣmīrindragehe rājalakṣmīrnṛpālaye

"You who are Mahalakshmi in Vaikuntha, who are Lakshmi in the Ocean of Milk, the Lakshmi of heaven in Indra's abode, the Lakshmi of royalty in the palaces of kings,

गृहलक्ष्मीश्च गृहिणां गेहे च गृहदेवता । सुरभिः सागरे जाता दक्षिणा यज्ञकामिनी

gṛhalakṣmīśca gṛhiṇāṁ gehe ca gṛhadevatā | surabhiḥ sāgare jātā dakṣiṇā yajñakāminī

"the Lakshmi of the home in the houses of householders, the household deity; Surabhi, born in the ocean; Dakshina, beloved of sacrifice;

Verse 58 (devibhagavatam.9.42.58)

अदितिर्देवमाता त्वं कमला कमलालया । स्वाहा त्वं च हविर्दाने कव्यदाने स्वधा स्मृता

aditirdevamātā tvaṁ kamalā kamalālayā | svāhā tvaṁ ca havirdāne kavyadāne svadhā smṛtā

"you are Aditi, mother of the gods, Kamala, dweller of the lotus; you are Svaha in the offering of oblations, and you are known as Svadha in the offering to the ancestors.

Verse 59 (devibhagavatam.9.42.59)

त्वं हि विष्णुस्वरूपा च सर्वाधारा वसुन्धरा । शुद्धसत्त्वस्वरूपा त्वं नारायणपरायणा

tvaṁ hi viṣṇusvarūpā ca sarvādhārā vasundharā | śuddhasattvasvarūpā tvaṁ nārāyaṇaparāyaṇā

"You are indeed of the very nature of Vishnu, the earth that supports all; you are of pure sattva nature, wholly devoted to Narayana.

Verse 60 (devibhagavatam.9.42.60)

क्रोधहिंसावर्जिता च वरदा शारदा शुभा । परमार्थप्रदा त्वं च हरिदास्यप्रदा परा

krodhahiṁsāvarjitā ca varadā śāradā śubhā | paramārthapradā tvaṁ ca haridāsyapradā parā

"You are free of anger and violence, the boon-giver, autumnal and radiant, auspicious; you bestow the supreme goal of life, and grant the highest state of servitude to Hari.

Verse 61 (devibhagavatam.9.42.61)

यया विना जगत्सर्वं भस्मीभूतमसारकम् । जीवन्मृतं च विश्वं च शश्वत्सर्वं यया विना

yayā vinā jagatsarvaṁ bhasmībhūtamasārakam | jīvanmṛtaṁ ca viśvaṁ ca śaśvatsarvaṁ yayā vinā

"Without whom this whole world would be reduced to ashes, without essence; without whom the universe, though living, would ever be as dead —

Verse 62 (devibhagavatam.9.42.62)

सर्वेषां च परा माता सर्वबान्धवरूपिणी । धर्मार्थकाममोक्षाणां त्वं च कारणरूपिणी

sarveṣāṁ ca parā mātā sarvabāndhavarūpiṇī | dharmārthakāmamokṣāṇāṁ tvaṁ ca kāraṇarūpiṇī

"you are the supreme mother of all, the very form of every kinsman; you are the very cause of dharma, artha, kama, and moksha.

Verse 63 (devibhagavatam.9.42.63)

यथा माता स्तनान्धानां शिशूनां शैशवे सदा । तथा त्वं सर्वदा माता सर्वेषां सर्वरूपतः

yathā mātā stanāndhānāṁ śiśūnāṁ śaiśave sadā | tathā tvaṁ sarvadā mātā sarveṣāṁ sarvarūpataḥ

"Just as a mother is ever present for her nursing infants in their childhood, so are you ever the mother of all, in every form, at all times.

Verse 64 (devibhagavatam.9.42.64)

मातृहीनः स्तनान्धस्तु स च जीवति दैवतः । त्वया हीनो जनः कोऽपि न जीवत्येव निश्चितम्

mātṛhīnaḥ stanāndhastu sa ca jīvati daivataḥ | tvayā hīno janaḥ ko'pi na jīvatyeva niścitam

"An infant deprived of its mother may yet live, by providence; but a person deprived of you certainly cannot live at all.

Verse 65 (devibhagavatam.9.42.65)

सुप्रसन्नस्वरूपा त्वं मां प्रसन्ना भवाम्बिके । वैरिग्रस्तं च विषयं देहि मह्यं सनातनि

suprasannasvarūpā tvaṁ māṁ prasannā bhavāmbike | vairigrastaṁ ca viṣayaṁ dehi mahyaṁ sanātani

"You are ever of a gracious nature — be gracious to me, O Mother! O eternal one, restore to me my domain, which has been seized by my enemies.

Verse 66 (devibhagavatam.9.42.66)

अहं यावत्त्वया हीनो बन्धुहीनश्च भिक्षुकः । सर्वसम्पद्विहीनश्च तावदेव हरिप्रिये

ahaṁ yāvattvayā hīno bandhuhīnaśca bhikṣukaḥ | sarvasampadvihīnaśca tāvadeva haripriye

"As long as I am deprived of you, O beloved of Hari, so long am I without kinsmen, a mere beggar, bereft of all prosperity.

Verse 67 (devibhagavatam.9.42.67)

ज्ञानं देहि च धर्मं च सर्वसौभाग्यमीप्सितम् । प्रभावञ्च प्रतापं च सर्वाधिकारमेव च

jñānaṁ dehi ca dharmaṁ ca sarvasaubhāgyamīpsitam | prabhāvañca pratāpaṁ ca sarvādhikārameva ca

"Grant me knowledge and righteousness, all the good fortune I desire, splendor and majesty, and full authority over all;

जयं पराक्रमं युद्धे परमैश्वर्यमेव च । इत्युक्त्वा च महेन्द्रश्च सर्वैः सुरगणैः सह

jayaṁ parākramaṁ yuddhe paramaiśvaryameva ca | ityuktvā ca mahendraśca sarvaiḥ suragaṇaiḥ saha

"grant me victory and valor in battle, and supreme lordship." Having spoken thus, great Indra, together with all the hosts of gods,

प्रणनाम साश्रुनेत्रो मूर्ध्ना चैव पुनः पुनः । ब्रह्मा च शङ्करश्चैव शेषो धर्मश्च केशवः

praṇanāma sāśrunetro mūrdhnā caiva punaḥ punaḥ | brahmā ca śaṅkaraścaiva śeṣo dharmaśca keśavaḥ

bowed his head again and again, his eyes filled with tears. And Brahma, Shankara, Shesha, Dharma, and Keshava,

सर्वे चक्रुः परीहारं सुरार्थे च पुनः पुनः । देवेभ्यश्च वरं दत्त्वा पुष्पमालां मनोहराम्

sarve cakruḥ parīhāraṁ surārthe ca punaḥ punaḥ | devebhyaśca varaṁ dattvā puṣpamālāṁ manoharām

all of them, again and again, made supplication on behalf of the gods. And she, having granted the gods their boon, and having given an enchanting garland of flowers,

Verse 71 (devibhagavatam.9.42.71)

केशवाय ददौ लक्ष्मीः सन्तुष्टा सुरसंसदि । ययुर्देवाश्च सन्तुष्टाः स्वं स्वं स्थानं च नारद

keśavāya dadau lakṣmīḥ santuṣṭā surasaṁsadi | yayurdevāśca santuṣṭāḥ svaṁ svaṁ sthānaṁ ca nārada

gave it to Keshava — Lakshmi, well pleased, in that assembly of the gods. And, O Narada, the gods, satisfied, went each to his own abode.

Verse 72 (devibhagavatam.9.42.72)

देवी ययौ हरेः स्थानं हृष्टा क्षीरोदशायिनः । ययतुश्चैव स्वगृहं ब्रह्मेशानौ च नारद

devī yayau hareḥ sthānaṁ hṛṣṭā kṣīrodaśāyinaḥ | yayatuścaiva svagṛhaṁ brahmeśānau ca nārada

The Devi, delighted, went to the abode of Hari who reclines on the Ocean of Milk; and, O Narada, Brahma and Shiva both went to their own homes,

Verse 73 (devibhagavatam.9.42.73)

दत्त्वा शुभाशिषं तौ च देवेभ्यः प्रीतिपूर्वकम् । इदं स्तोत्रं महापुण्यं त्रिसन्ध्यं यः पठेन्नरः

dattvā śubhāśiṣaṁ tau ca devebhyaḥ prītipūrvakam | idaṁ stotraṁ mahāpuṇyaṁ trisandhyaṁ yaḥ paṭhennaraḥ

having lovingly given their auspicious blessings to the gods. Whatever man recites this most sacred hymn at the three junctures of the day —

Verse 74 (devibhagavatam.9.42.74)

कुबेरतुल्यः स भवेद्राजराजेश्वरो महान् । पञ्चलक्षजपेनैव स्तोत्रसिद्धिर्भवेन्नृणाम्

kuberatulyaḥ sa bhavedrājarājeśvaro mahān | pañcalakṣajapenaiva stotrasiddhirbhavennṛṇām

he becomes equal to Kubera, a great King of Kings. By reciting it five hundred thousand times, the hymn's perfection is attained by men.

Verse 75 (devibhagavatam.9.42.75)

सिद्धस्तोत्रं यदि पठेन्मासमेकं तु सन्ततम् । महासुखी च राजेन्द्रो भविष्यति न संशयः

siddhastotraṁ yadi paṭhenmāsamekaṁ tu santatam | mahāsukhī ca rājendro bhaviṣyati na saṁśayaḥ

If, once its power is attained, one recites this hymn continuously for one month, he shall doubtless become a supremely happy lord among kings.
