Brahma said: Here the Mahakaushika mantra is also told, which bears great fruit.

The Mahakaushika mantra: Om, salutation to Mahakaushika. Om hum hum, burst forth, quiver, quiver... — a string of powerful seed-syllables follows, amid which intelligible commands appear: strike, strike! command, command! rend, rend! shake, shake, cause to shake! fill, fill! possess, possess!... salutation to Nairrita — this offering is given to Nirriti. The offering, consecrated with the Mahakaushika mantra, should be presented.

Verse 3 (garuda.1.134.3)

tasyāgrato nṛpaḥ snāyācchatraṁ kṛtvā ca paiṣṭikam khaḍgena ghātayitvā tu dadyātskandaviśākhayoḥ

Before it the king should bathe, having made a canopy of rice-flour paste; having struck the offering with a sword, he should present a portion to Skanda and Vishakha.

Verse 4 (garuda.1.134.4)

mātṝṇāṁ caiva devīnāṁ pūjā kāryā tathā niśi brahmāṇī caiva māheśī kaumārī vaiṣṇavī tathā

At night, worship of the Mother-goddesses should likewise be performed: Brahmani, Maheshvari, Kaumari, Vaishnavi —

Verse 5 (garuda.1.134.5)

vārāhī caiva māhendrī cāmuṇḍā caṇḍikā tathā jayantī maṅgalā kālī bhadrakālī kapālinī

Varahi, Mahendri, Chamunda, Chandika, Jayanti, Mangala, Kali, Bhadrakali, Kapalini —

Verse 6 (garuda.1.134.6)

durgā kṣamā śivā dhātrī svāhā svadhā namo'stu te kṣīrādyaiḥ snāpayeddevīṁ kanyakāḥ pramadāstathā

Durga, Kshama, Shiva, Dhatri, Svaha, Svadha — salutation to you. One should bathe the Goddess with milk and other offerings, and honor young maidens and women as well.

Verse 7 (garuda.1.134.7)

One should honor Brahmins, and even ascetics of other persuasions, with gifts of food; and worship at chariot-processions with banners, leaf-decorations, flags, and cloth. This worship on the Mahanavami bestows victory, kingdom, and the like.
