Remedies for the Eyes, Throat, Voice, and Skin
Verse 1 (garuda.1.181.1)
श्रीगरुडमहापुराणम् १८१ हरिरुवाच । ताम्बूलञ्च घृतं क्षौद्रं लवणं ताम्रभाजने । तथा पयः समायुक्तं चक्षुः शूलहरं परम्
śrīgaruḍamahāpurāṇam 181 hariruvāca tāmbūlañca ghṛtaṁ kṣaudraṁ lavaṇaṁ tāmrabhājane tathā payaḥ samāyuktaṁ cakṣuḥ śūlaharaṁ param
Hari said: Betel-leaf, ghee, honey, and salt kept in a copper vessel, combined with milk — this is an excellent remedy for eye-pain.
Verse 2 (garuda.1.181.2)
हरीतकी वचा कुष्ठं व्योषं हिङ्गु मनः शिला । कासे श्वासे च हिक्कायां लिह्यात्क्षौद्रं घृप्लुतम्
harītakī vacā kuṣṭhaṁ vyoṣaṁ hiṅgu manaḥ śilā kāse śvāse ca hikkāyāṁ lihyātkṣaudraṁ ghṛplutam
Haritaki, vacha, kushtha, the three pungents, asafoetida, and manahshila should be licked combined with honey and ghee — this is beneficial in cough, breathlessness, and hiccup.
Verse 3 (garuda.1.181.3)
पिप्पलीत्रिफलाचूर्णं मधुना लेहयेन्नरः । नश्यते पीनसः कासः श्वासश्च बलवत्तरः
pippalītriphalācūrṇaṁ madhunā lehayennaraḥ naśyate pīnasaḥ kāsaḥ śvāsaśca balavattaraḥ
A man who licks powder of pippali and triphala with honey has his catarrh, cough, and breathlessness destroyed, and grows stronger.
Verse 4 (garuda.1.181.4)
समूलचित्रकं भस्मपिप्पलीचूर्णकं लिहेत् । श्वासं कासञ्च हिक्काञ्च मधुमिश्रं वृषध्वज !
samūlacitrakaṁ bhasmapippalīcūrṇakaṁ lihet śvāsaṁ kāsañca hikkāñca madhumiśraṁ vṛṣadhvaja !
The ash of chitraka together with its root, and pippali powder, mixed with honey, should be licked — this destroys breathlessness, cough, and hiccup, O Vrishadhvaja.
Verse 5 (garuda.1.181.5)
नीलोत्पलं शर्करा च मधुकं पद्मकं समम् । तण्डुलोदकसंमिश्रं प्रशमेद्रक्तविक्रियाः
nīlotpalaṁ śarkarā ca madhukaṁ padmakaṁ samam taṇḍulodakasaṁmiśraṁ praśamedraktavikriyāḥ
Blue lotus, sugar, licorice, and padmaka in equal parts, mixed with rice-water, pacify disorders of the blood.
Verse 6 (garuda.1.181.6)
शुण्ठी च शर्करा चैव तथा क्षौद्रेण संयुता । कोकिलस्वर एव स्याद्गुटिका भुक्तिमात्रतः
śuṇṭhī ca śarkarā caiva tathā kṣaudreṇa saṁyutā kokilasvara eva syādguṭikā bhuktimātrataḥ
Dry ginger and sugar combined with honey, made into a pill — upon merely eating it, one's voice becomes as sweet as the koel's (cuckoo's).
Verse 7 (garuda.1.181.7)
हरितालं शङ्खचूर्णं कदलीदलभस्मना । एतद्द्रव्येण चोद्वर्त्य लोमशातनमुत्तमम्
haritālaṁ śaṅkhacūrṇaṁ kadalīdalabhasmanā etaddravyeṇa codvartya lomaśātanamuttamam
Orpiment and conch-powder combined with banana-leaf ash — rubbing the body with this preparation is excellent for removing body hair.
Verse 8 (garuda.1.181.8)
लवणं हरितालञ्च तुम्बिन्याश्च फलानि च । लाक्षारससमायुक्तं लोमशातनमुत्तम्
lavaṇaṁ haritālañca tumbinyāśca phalāni ca lākṣārasasamāyuktaṁ lomaśātanamuttam
Salt, orpiment, and tumbi fruits, combined with lac-juice, are likewise excellent for removing body hair.
Verse 9 (garuda.1.181.9)
सुधा च हरितालञ्च शङ्खभस्म मनः शिला । सैन्धवेन सहैकत्र छागमूत्रेण पेषयेत्
sudhā ca haritālañca śaṅkhabhasma manaḥ śilā saindhavena sahaikatra chāgamūtreṇa peṣayet
Snuhi's milky sap, orpiment, conch-ash, and manahshila should be combined together with rock salt and ground with goat's urine.
Verse 10 (garuda.1.181.10)
तत्क्षणोद्वर्तनादेव लोमशातनमुत्तमम् । शङ्खमामलकं पत्रं धातक्याः कुसुमानि च
tatkṣaṇodvartanādeva lomaśātanamuttamam śaṅkhamāmalakaṁ patraṁ dhātakyāḥ kusumāni ca
Rubbing this on at once proves excellent for removing body hair. Conch powder, amalaki, its leaf, and dhataki flowers —
Verse 11 (garuda.1.181.11)
पिष्ट्वा तत्पयसा सार्धं सप्ताहं धारयेन्मुखे । स्निग्धाः श्वेताश्च दन्ताश्च भवन्ति विमलप्रभाः
piṣṭvā tatpayasā sārdhaṁ saptāhaṁ dhārayenmukhe snigdhāḥ śvetāśca dantāśca bhavanti vimalaprabhāḥ
— ground together with milk and held in the mouth for seven days — the teeth become smooth, white, and of spotless lustre.
