free of attachment, the great lord, worshipped by all the gods; of the form of pure radiance, without materiality, beyond the need for austerity —
Verse 6 (garuda.1.91.6)
rahitaṁ rajasā nityaṁ vyatiriktaṁ guṇaistribhiḥ sarvarūpavihīnaṁ vai kartṛtvādivivarjitam
eternally free of rajas, distinct from the three gunas; devoid of all form, free of agency and the like —

satyaṁ sarvācārahīnaṁ niṣkalaṁ parameśvaram jāgratsvapnasuṣuptyādivarjitaṁ nāmavarjitam
the truth itself, beyond all ritual conduct, the partless Supreme Lord; free of waking, dream, and deep sleep and the like, free of name —
Verse 10 (garuda.1.91.10)
adhyakṣaṁ jāgradādīnāṁ śāntarūpaṁ sureśvaram jāgradādisthitaṁ nityaṁ kāryyakāraṇavarjitam
the overseer of waking and the other states, of peaceful nature, lord of the gods; eternally present within waking and the other states, yet free of cause and effect —
Verse 11 (garuda.1.91.11)
sarvadṛṣṭaṁ tathā mūrttaṁ sūkṣmaṁ sūkṣmataraṁ param jñānadṛk śrotravijñānaṁ paramānandarūpakam

free of the waking-self, likewise free of the dream-self; free also of the deep-sleep-self — the fourth state, the supreme imperishable —
Verse 13 (garuda.1.91.13)
sarvagoptṛ sarvahantṛ sarvabhūtātmarūpi ca buddhidharmavihīnaṁ vai nirādhāraṁ śivaṁ harim
the protector of all, the destroyer of all, of the nature of the self of all beings; devoid of the properties of intellect, without support — the auspicious Hari —
Verse 14 (garuda.1.91.14)

rūpeṇa rahitañcaiva gandhena parivarjitam anādi brahmarandhrāntamahaṁ brahmāsmi kevalam
free of form as well, and free of smell; without beginning, extending up to the brahmarandhra — 'I am Brahman alone.'
Verse 17 (garuda.1.91.17)
evaṁ jñātvā mahādevadhyānaṁ kuryyājjitendriyaḥ dhyānaṁ yaḥ kurute hyevaṁ sa bhavedbahma mānavaḥ
Knowing thus, one of controlled senses should perform meditation on Mahadeva; whoever meditates in this way becomes, though a man, one with Brahman.
Verse 18 (garuda.1.91.18)
iti dhyānaṁ samākhyātamaśvirasya mayā tava adhunā kathayāmyanyatkintadbrūhi vṛṣadhvaja
Thus has the meditation on the imperishable Supreme Lord been declared by me to you. Now I shall speak of something else — tell me, O bull-bannered one, what that is.
