iti japtvā labhetkāmaṁ svargabhogyādikaṁ kramāt | ādityo bhāskaraḥ sūryo arko bhānurdivākaraḥ

Reciting thus, one obtains his desire, and in due course heaven and its enjoyments. The names are: Aditya, Bhaskara, Surya, Arka, Bhanu, Divakara,

I shall now declare the root mantra of great-souled Bhaskara, which accomplishes every desire and purpose, bestowing both enjoyment and liberation.

vyādhayo vai na bādhaṁte na cāniṣṭaṁ bhayaṁ bhavet | sūryāvartodakaṁ yastu gṛhītvā tu krameṇa tu

Diseases never afflict him, nor does any dreaded fear arise. Whoever takes the Surya-avarta water, in due order—

Verse 52 (padma.1.78.52)

tasya prāśanamātreṇa naro rogātpramucyate | na dātavyaṁ na khyātavyaṁ japtavyaṁ ca prayatnataḥ

—by merely sipping it, a man is freed of disease. This should not be given away, nor spoken of openly, but recited with careful effort.

Verse 53 (padma.1.78.53)

abhakteṣvanapatyeṣu pāṣaṇḍalaukikeṣu ca | kaṭutailasamāyuktaṁ nasye pāne ca dāpayet

For non-devotees, the childless, heretics, or the worldly-minded, one should instead give pungent oil, as nasal drops or a drink.

Verse 54 (padma.1.78.54)

sūryāvartajalaṁ putra sarvarogādvimucyate | mūlamaṁtrastu japtavyaḥ saṁdhyāyāṁ homakarmasu

By the Surya-avarta water, my son, one is freed from every disease. The root mantra should be recited during twilight worship and fire-rites.

Verse 55 (padma.1.78.55)

japyamāne tu naśyaṁti rogāḥ krūragrahāstathā | kimanyairbahubhiḥ śāstrairmaṁtrairvā bahuvistaraiḥ

By its recitation, diseases and malefic planetary influences are destroyed alike; what need is there of many other scriptures or elaborate mantras?

Verse 56 (padma.1.78.56)

sarvaśāṁtiriyaṁ vatsa sarvārthapratisādhikā | nāstikāya na dātavyā devabrāhmaṇaniṁdake

This is the universal peace-rite, my child, accomplishing every purpose; it must never be given to an atheist or to a reviler of gods and Brahmins.

Verse 57 (padma.1.78.57)

gurubhaktāya dātavyā nānyebhyopi kadācana | prātarutthāya yo nityaṁ kīrtayiṣyati mānavaḥ

It should be given only to one devoted to his guru, never to any other. Whatever man rises at dawn and constantly glorifies this—

Verse 58 (padma.1.78.58)

goghnaḥ kṛtaghnakaścaiva mucyate sarvapātakaiḥ | śarīrārogyakṛccaiva dhanavṛddhiyaśaskaraḥ

—even a cow-killer or an ingrate is freed from all sins by it; it grants bodily health and brings increase of wealth and fame.

Verse 59 (padma.1.78.59)

jāyate nātra saṁdeho yasya tuṣyeddivākaraḥ | ekakālaṁ dvikālaṁ vā trikālaṁ nityameva ca

There is no doubt of this for one with whom Divakara is pleased. Whether once, twice, or three times a day, constantly—

Verse 60 (padma.1.78.60)

yaḥ paṭhedravisānnidhye so'bhīṣṭaṁ phalamāpnuyāt | putrārthī labhate putraṁ kanyārthī kanyakāṁ labhet

—whoever recites this in the Sun's presence obtains his desired fruit; one desiring a son obtains a son, one desiring a daughter obtains a daughter.

Verse 61 (padma.1.78.61)

vidyārthī labhate vidyāṁ dhanārthī labhate dhanaṁ | śṛṇuyātsaṁyuto bhaktyā śuddhācārasamanvitaḥ

One desiring knowledge obtains knowledge, one desiring wealth obtains wealth — provided he listens with devotion and pure conduct.

Verse 62 (padma.1.78.62)

sarvapāpavinirmuktassūryalokaṁ vrajatyapi | bhāskarasya vrate yacca vratācāramakheṣu ca

Freed from all sin, he even attains the world of the Sun. Whatever merit is gained in Bhaskara's vow, observances, and sacrifices—

Verse 63 (padma.1.78.63)

puṇyasthāneṣu tīrtheṣu paṭhetkoṭiguṇaṁ bhavet | grahe bhojyeṣu pūjāyāṁ brahmabhojye dvijāgrataḥ

—reciting it in sacred places and holy fords multiplies that merit ten million times; likewise at meals, in worship, before Brahmins—

Verse 64 (padma.1.78.64)

ya idaṁ paṭhate viprastasyānaṁtaphalaṁ bhavet | tapasvināṁ ca viprāṇāṁ devānāmagrataḥ sudhīḥ

—whatever Brahmin recites this obtains boundless merit; the wise man, before ascetics, Brahmins, and gods—

Verse 65 (padma.1.78.65)

yaḥ paṭhetpāṭhayedvāpi suraloke mahīyate

—whoever recites it, or causes others to recite it, is glorified in the world of the gods.
