tānsarvāṁścūrṇayāmāsa nārācānvairimocitān śālaṁ kare samādhṛtya jaghāna nṛpanaṁdanam
He pulverized every one of those iron arrows loosed by his foe; then, taking up a Sala tree in hand, he struck at the king's son.
Verse 61 (padma.5.51.61)
śālaṁ tena vinirmuktaṁ tilaśaḥ kṛtavānbalī gajo hanūmatā mukto nṛpanaṁdana mastake
That mighty one shattered the Sala tree hurled at him into fragments; then Hanuman released an elephant, which crashed down upon the prince's head.
Verse 62 (padma.5.51.62)
so'pyāhataścaṁpakena mṛto bhūmau papātasaḥ śilāḥ saṁmocayāmāsa hanūmānparamāstravit
That elephant too, struck down by Champaka, fell dead to the earth; then Hanuman, master of the supreme weapons, hurled great boulders.
Verse 63 (padma.5.51.63)
caṁpakastāḥ śilāḥ sarvāḥ kṣaṇāccūrṇitavānbhṛśam bāṇayaṁtrikayā brahmanmahaccitramabhūdidam
O brahmin, Champaka pulverized every one of those boulders utterly, in an instant, by the mere mechanism of his arrows — a great wonder it was.
Verse 64 (padma.5.51.64)
svamuktāstāḥ śilāḥ sarvāścūrṇitā vīkṣya mārutiḥ cukopa hṛdaye'tyataṁ bahuvīryamiti smaran
Seeing all the boulders he had hurled thus pulverized, Maruti grew intensely angry at heart, recalling his own vast strength.
Verse 65 (padma.5.51.65)
āgatya ca kare dhṛtvā nabhasyutpatitaḥ kapiḥ tāvadyayau netrapathādupari kṣipravegavān
Coming forward, seizing him in hand, the monkey leapt up into the sky; swift as thought, he rose above the very reach of sight.
Verse 66 (padma.5.51.66)
caṁpakastaṁ hanūmaṁtaṁ yuyudhe nabhasi sthitaḥ bāhuyuddhena mahatā tāḍitaḥ kapipuṁgavaḥ
There, suspended in the sky, Champaka fought with Hanuman; and struck by that great hand-to-hand combat, the foremost of monkeys —
Verse 67 (padma.5.51.67)
cukopa mānase vīro garvaparvatadāruṇaḥ padā dhṛtvā caṁpakaṁ taṁ tāḍayāmāsa bhūtale
— grew angry at heart, that hero terrible as a very mountain of pride; and, seizing Champaka by the foot, he dashed him down upon the ground.
Verse 68 (padma.5.51.68)
tāḍito'sau kapīṁdreṇa kṣaṇādutthāya vegavān hanūmaṁtaṁ tu lāṁgūle dhṛtvā babhrāma sarvataḥ
Struck down by the lord of monkeys, he rose again in an instant with great speed, and, seizing Hanuman by the tail, whirled him round on every side.
Verse 69 (padma.5.51.69)
kapīṁdrastadbalaṁ vīkṣya hasanpāde'grahītpunaḥ bhrāmayitvā śataguṇaṁ gajopasthe hyapātayat
Seeing his strength, the lord of monkeys, laughing, seized him once more by the foot; whirling him a hundred times, he cast him down upon an elephant's back.
Verse 70 (padma.5.51.70)
papāta bhūmau subalo rājasūnuḥ sa caṁpakaḥ mūrcchito vīrabhūṣāḍhyamalaṁkurvanraṇāṁgaṇam
Mighty Champaka, the king's own son, fell to the ground senseless, adorning that battlefield with his heroic ornaments as he lay.
Verse 71 (padma.5.51.71)
tadā hāheti vai lokāścukruśuścaṁpakānugāḥ puṣkalaṁ mocayāmāsa baddhaṁ caṁpakapāśataḥ
Then all of Champaka's own followers cried out in dismay; and Pushkala, who had lain bound in Champaka's fetters, was at last set free.
