Rudra-mahalaya-tirtha
Verse 1 (padma.6.146.1)
महादेव उवाच । ततो गच्छेत देवेशि तीर्थं रुद्र महालयम् । केदारानुपमं साक्षाद्रुद्रेण परिनिर्मितम्
mahādeva uvāca tato gaccheta deveśi tīrthaṁ rudra mahālayam kedārānupamaṁ sākṣādrudreṇa parinirmitam
Mahadeva said: 'O queen of gods, after this one should go to the ford called Rudra-mahalaya, incomparable like Kedara, fashioned directly by Rudra himself.'
Verse 2 (padma.6.146.2)
श्राद्धं तत्रैव कर्तव्यं पितॄणां तृप्तिकारणम् । तत्र श्राद्धप्रदानेन पितरः सपितामहाः
śrāddhaṁ tatraiva kartavyaṁ pitṝṇāṁ tṛptikāraṇam tatra śrāddhapradānena pitaraḥ sapitāmahāḥ
'There, shraddha should be performed for the satisfaction of one's ancestors. By offering shraddha there, the ancestors, together with the forefathers —'
Verse 3 (padma.6.146.3)
तृप्ताः समभिगच्छंति रुद्रस्य परमं पदम् । वृषमुत्सृजते यस्तु तत्र रुद्र महालये
tṛptāḥ samabhigacchaṁti rudrasya paramaṁ padam vṛṣamutsṛjate yastu tatra rudra mahālaye
'become satisfied and attain the supreme state of Rudra. Whoever releases a bull there at Rudra-mahalaya,'
Verse 4 (padma.6.146.4)
कार्तिक्यामथ वैशाख्यां रुद्रेण सह मोदते । केदारे उदकं पीत्वा पुनर्जन्म न विद्यते
kārtikyāmatha vaiśākhyāṁ rudreṇa saha modate kedāre udakaṁ pītvā punarjanma na vidyate
'in the month of Kartika or Vaishakha, rejoices together with Rudra. Drinking the water at Kedara, a man is never born again.'
Verse 5 (padma.6.146.5)
अत्र तु स्नानमात्रेण मुक्तिभागी न संशयः । एकस्मिन्समये देवि त्यक्त्वा कैलासमागतः
atra tu snānamātreṇa muktibhāgī na saṁśayaḥ ekasminsamaye devi tyaktvā kailāsamāgataḥ
'Here, by mere bathing, a man becomes a sharer in liberation, without doubt. Once, O goddess, leaving Kailasa, I came here.'
Verse 6 (padma.6.146.6)
साभ्रमतीं महागंगां ज्ञात्वा लोकहिताय वै । तत्र स्नात्वा च पीत्वा च कृत्वा तीर्थमनुत्तमम्
sābhramatīṁ mahāgaṁgāṁ jñātvā lokahitāya vai tatra snātvā ca pītvā ca kṛtvā tīrthamanuttamam
'Knowing the great Ganga Sabarmati, for the welfare of the world, having bathed there and drunk of her waters, and having fashioned this unsurpassed ford,'
Verse 7 (padma.6.146.7)
ततोहं च स्वकं स्थानं कैलासं प्रति भामिनि । तदनंतरं महापुण्यं तीर्थं जातं महालयम्
tatohaṁ ca svakaṁ sthānaṁ kailāsaṁ prati bhāmini tadanaṁtaraṁ mahāpuṇyaṁ tīrthaṁ jātaṁ mahālayam
'O radiant one, I then returned to my own abode, Kailasa. After that, this most meritorious ford came to be known as Mahalaya.'
Verse 8 (padma.6.146.8)
रुद्र महालयमिति लोके ख्यातिं गमिष्यति । कार्तिक्यामथ वैशाख्यां ये गच्छंति सुरोत्तमे । न तेषां विद्यते दुःखं सर्वसंसारजं पुनः
rudra mahālayamiti loke khyātiṁ gamiṣyati kārtikyāmatha vaiśākhyāṁ ye gacchaṁti surottame na teṣāṁ vidyate duḥkhaṁ sarvasaṁsārajaṁ punaḥ
'It shall become renowned in the world as Rudra-mahalaya. O foremost of gods, those who go there in Kartika or Vaishakha never again experience any sorrow born of worldly existence.'
