The Glory of Go-tirtha

Verse 1 (padma.6.163.1)

महादेव उवाच। तीर्थानां प्रवरं तीर्थं महापातकनाशनम् । गोतीर्थमिति विख्यातं काश्यपह्रदसमीपतः

mahādeva uvāca tīrthānāṃ pravaraṃ tīrthaṃ mahāpātakanāśanam gotīrthamiti vikhyātaṃ kāśyapahradasamīpataḥ

Mahadeva said: The foremost of tirthas, the destroyer of great sins, is known as Go-tirtha, near the Kashyapa lake.

Verse 2 (padma.6.163.2)

यानि कानि च पापानि ब्रह्महत्या समानि च । गोतीर्थे तु ततः स्नात्वा नश्यंते नात्र संशयः

yāni kāni ca pāpāni brahmahatyā samāni ca gotīrthe tu tataḥ snātvā naśyaṃte nātra saṃśayaḥ

Whatever sins there may be, even equal to the killing of a brahmin, are destroyed by bathing at Go-tirtha -- there is no doubt of this.

Verse 3 (padma.6.163.3)

गावः कृष्णां तनुं प्राप्य पूर्वपातकयोगतः । यत्र तीर्थे ततः स्नात्वा शुक्लत्वं पुनरागताः

gāvaḥ kṛṣṇāṃ tanuṃ prāpya pūrvapātakayogataḥ yatra tīrthe tataḥ snātvā śuklatvaṃ punarāgatāḥ

Cows that had taken on a black form because of former sins, having bathed at this tirtha, regained their white color once more.

Verse 4 (padma.6.163.4)

तत्र तीर्थे नरः स्नात्त्वा दत्वा गोभ्यो गवाह्निकम् । गोमातॄणां प्रसादेन मातॄणामनृणी भवेत्

tatra tīrthe naraḥ snāttvā datvā gobhyo gavāhnikam gomātṝṇāṃ prasādena mātṝṇāmanṛṇī bhavet

A man who bathes at that tirtha and gives fodder to cows becomes, through the grace of the cow-mothers, free of debt to his own mothers.

Verse 5 (padma.6.163.5)

गोतीर्थे तु नरो गत्वा स्नात्वा गां तु पयस्विनीम् । ददाति विप्रमुख्येभ्यः स याति ब्रह्मणः पदम्

gotīrthe tu naro gatvā snātvā gāṃ tu payasvinīm dadāti vipramukhyebhyaḥ sa yāti brahmaṇaḥ padam

Whatever man goes to Go-tirtha, bathes, and gives a milk-yielding cow to foremost brahmins, attains the state of Brahma.
