The Glory of the Sabarmati at Her Confluence with Durga

Verse 1 (padma.6.173.1)

महादेव उवाच। दुर्गया संगता यत्र देवि साभ्रमती नदी । संगमः सागरेणाथ स्नानं तत्र समाचरेत्

mahādeva uvāca durgayā saṃgatā yatra devi sābhramatī nadī saṃgamaḥ sāgareṇātha snānaṃ tatra samācaret

Mahadeva said: O goddess, where the river Sabarmati is joined with Durga, and where its confluence with the ocean occurs, one should perform bathing there.

Verse 2 (padma.6.173.2)

वीतदोषा भविष्यंति कलौ वै नात्र संशयः । तत्र श्राद्धं प्रकर्त्तव्यं दुर्गया संगमे तथा

vītadoṣā bhaviṣyaṃti kalau vai nātra saṃśayaḥ tatra śrāddhaṃ prakarttavyaṃ durgayā saṃgame tathā

In the Kali age, people shall certainly become free of fault -- there is no doubt of this. Shraddha should be performed there, likewise at the confluence with Durga.

Verse 3 (padma.6.173.3)

तत्र गत्वा विशेषेण ब्राह्मणानां च भोजनम् । दानं गोमहिषीणां च कर्तव्यं विधिपूर्वकम्

tatra gatvā viśeṣeṇa brāhmaṇānāṃ ca bhojanam dānaṃ gomahiṣīṇāṃ ca kartavyaṃ vidhipūrvakam

Going there, one should especially feed brahmins, and the gift of cows and buffaloes should be duly made.

Verse 4 (padma.6.173.4)

इयं धन्या धन्यतमा पवित्रा पापनाशिनी । यां दृष्ट्वा चापि भो देवि मुच्यते पातकैर्नरः

iyaṃ dhanyā dhanyatamā pavitrā pāpanāśinī yāṃ dṛṣṭvā cāpi bho devi mucyate pātakairnaraḥ

This river is blessed, most blessed, pure, the destroyer of sin. O goddess, merely by beholding her, a man is released from his sins.

Verse 5 (padma.6.173.5)

यथा गंगा तथा चेयं ज्ञेया साभ्रमती नदी । कलौ देवि विशेषेण बहुकालफलप्रदा

yathā gaṃgā tathā ceyaṃ jñeyā sābhramatī nadī kalau devi viśeṣeṇa bahukālaphalapradā

As is the Ganga, so should this river Sabarmati be known -- O goddess, especially in the Kali age, bestowing fruit that lasts for a very long time.

Verse 6 (padma.6.173.6)

यदि चेच्छतशो जिह्वा मुखे वै मामके सति । तस्या अपि न शक्नोमि गुणान्वक्तुं कदाचन

yadi cecchataśo jihvā mukhe vai māmake sati tasyā api na śaknomi guṇānvaktuṃ kadācana

Even if I had a hundred tongues in my mouth, still I could never fully describe her virtues.
