The Festival of Shiva's Entry into Himagiri's House
Verse 1 (shiva.rudra.110.1)
ब्रह्मोवाच । ततः शैलवरः सोऽपि प्रीत्या दुर्गोपवीतकम् । कारयामास सोत्साहं वेदमन्त्रैश्शिवस्य च
brahmovāca tataḥ śailavaraḥ so'pi prītyā durgopavītakam kārayāmāsa sotsāhaṁ vedamantraiśśivasya ca
Brahma said: "Then that excellent mountain, with affection and enthusiasm, had the sacred wedding-thread rite of Shiva performed there, together with Vedic mantras."
Verse 2 (shiva.rudra.110.2)
अथ विष्ण्वादयो देवा मुनयः सकुतूहलम् । हिमाचलप्रार्थनया विवेशान्तर्गृहं गिरेः
atha viṣṇvādayo devā munayaḥ sakutūhalam himācalaprārthanayā viveśāntargṛhaṁ gireḥ
"Then the gods, headed by Vishnu, and the sages, filled with eager delight, entered the inner house of the mountain at Himachala's own invitation."
Verse 3 (shiva.rudra.110.3)
श्रुत्याचारं भवाचारं विधाय च यथार्थतः । शिवामलङ्कृतां चक्रुः शिवदत्तविभूषणैः
śrutyācāraṁ bhavācāraṁ vidhāya ca yathārthataḥ śivāmalaṅkṛtāṁ cakruḥ śivadattavibhūṣaṇaiḥ
"Having duly performed the rites prescribed by the Vedas and by worldly custom, they adorned Shiva with the ornaments given by Shiva himself."
Verse 4 (shiva.rudra.110.4)
प्रथमं स्नापयित्वा तां भूषयित्वाथ सर्वशः । नीराजिता सखीभिश्च विप्रपत्नीभिरेव च
prathamaṁ snāpayitvā tāṁ bhūṣayitvātha sarvaśaḥ nīrājitā sakhībhiśca viprapatnībhireva ca
"Having first bathed her, and then adorned her fully in every way, she was honored with the waving of lamps by her companions and by the wives of the brahmins."
Verse 5 (shiva.rudra.110.5)
अहताम्बरयुग्मेन शोभिता वरवर्णिनी । विरराज महाशैलदुहिता शङ्करप्रिया
ahatāmbarayugmena śobhitā varavarṇinī virarāja mahāśailaduhitā śaṅkarapriyā
"Adorned with a pair of unworn garments, that woman of excellent complexion, the great mountain's daughter, beloved of Shankara, shone forth gloriously."
Verse 6 (shiva.rudra.110.6)
कञ्चुकी परमा दिव्या नानारत्नान्विताद्भुता । विधृता च तया देव्या विलसन्त्यधिकं मुने
kañcukī paramā divyā nānāratnānvitādbhutā vidhṛtā ca tayā devyā vilasantyadhikaṁ mune
"A supremely divine bodice, wondrous, set with manifold jewels, was worn by that goddess, O sage, and it shone forth all the more brightly upon her."
Verse 7 (shiva.rudra.110.7)
सा बभार तथा हारं दिव्यरत्नसमन्वितम् । वलयानि महार्हाणि शुद्धचामीकराणि च
sā babhāra tathā hāraṁ divyaratnasamanvitam valayāni mahārhāṇi śuddhacāmīkarāṇi ca
"She wore likewise a necklace set with divine jewels, and bracelets of great worth, made of pure refined gold."
Verse 8 (shiva.rudra.110.8)
स्थिता तत्रैव सुभगा ध्यायन्ती मनसा शिवम् । शुशुभेऽति महाशैलकन्यका त्रिजगत्प्रसूः
sthitā tatraiva subhagā dhyāyantī manasā śivam śuśubhe'ti mahāśailakanyakā trijagatprasūḥ
"Standing there, that fortunate one, meditating in her mind upon Shiva, the daughter of the great mountain, the mother of the three worlds, shone with surpassing beauty."
Verse 9 (shiva.rudra.110.9)
तदोत्सवो महानासीदुभयत्र मुदावहः । दानं बभूव विविधं ब्राह्मणेभ्यो विवर्णितम्
tadotsavo mahānāsīdubhayatra mudāvahaḥ dānaṁ babhūva vividhaṁ brāhmaṇebhyo vivarṇitam
"Then there arose a great festival, bringing joy on both sides; manifold and lavish gifts were given to the brahmins."
Verse 10 (shiva.rudra.110.10)
अन्येषां द्रव्यदानं च बभूव विविधं महत् । गीतवाद्यविनोदश्च तत्रोत्सवपुरस्सरम्
anyeṣāṁ dravyadānaṁ ca babhūva vividhaṁ mahat gītavādyavinodaśca tatrotsavapurassaram
"Great and manifold gifts of wealth were given to others as well; and there was the delight of song and music, accompanying that festival."
Verse 11 (shiva.rudra.110.11)
अथ विष्णुरहं धाता शक्राद्या अमरास्तथा । मुनयश्च महाप्रीत्या निखिलाः सोत्सवा मुदा
atha viṣṇurahaṁ dhātā śakrādyā amarāstathā munayaśca mahāprītyā nikhilāḥ sotsavā mudā
"Then Vishnu, I, the Creator, and Shakra and the other immortals, and the sages too, with great affection, all together, joyfully, amid that festivity —"
Verse 12 (shiva.rudra.110.12)
सुप्रणम्य शिवां भक्त्या स्मृत्वा शिवपदाम्बुजम् । सम्प्राप्य हिमगिर्याज्ञां स्वं स्वं स्थानं समाश्रिताः
supraṇamya śivāṁ bhaktyā smṛtvā śivapadāmbujam samprāpya himagiryājñāṁ svaṁ svaṁ sthānaṁ samāśritāḥ
"— having reverently bowed to Shiva with devotion, and having called to mind Shiva's own lotus feet, and having received Himagiri's leave, each of us retired to his own appointed place."
Verse 13 (shiva.rudra.110.13)
एतस्मिन्नन्तरे तत्र ज्योतिः शास्त्रविशारदः । हिमवन्तं गिरीन्द्रं तं गर्गो वाक्यमभाषत
etasminnantare tatra jyotiḥ śāstraviśāradaḥ himavantaṁ girīndraṁ taṁ gargo vākyamabhāṣata
"Meanwhile, Garga, learned in the science of astrology, spoke this word to Himavan, that lord of mountains:"
Verse 14 (shiva.rudra.110.14)
गर्ग उवाच । हिमाचल धराधीश स्वामिन् कालीपतिः प्रभो । पाणिग्रहार्थं शम्भुं चानय त्वं निजमन्दिरम्
garga uvāca himācala dharādhīśa svāmin kālīpatiḥ prabho pāṇigrahārthaṁ śambhuṁ cānaya tvaṁ nijamandiram
Garga said: "O Himachala, lord of the earth, my patron! Bring Shambhu, the husband-to-be of Kali, into your own mansion, for the taking of her hand."
Verse 15 (shiva.rudra.110.15)
ब्रह्मोवाच । अथ तं समयं ज्ञात्वा कन्यादानोचितं गिरिः । निवेदितं च गर्गेण मुमुदेऽतीव चेतसि
brahmovāca atha taṁ samayaṁ jñātvā kanyādānocitaṁ giriḥ niveditaṁ ca gargeṇa mumude'tīva cetasi
Brahma said: "Then, knowing that the time fitting for the giving away of the bride had come, as announced by Garga, the mountain rejoiced exceedingly in his heart."
Verse 16 (shiva.rudra.110.16)
महीधरान्द्विजांश्चैव परानपि मुदा गिरिः । प्रेषयामास सुप्रीत्या शिवानयनकाम्यया
mahīdharāndvijāṁścaiva parānapi mudā giriḥ preṣayāmāsa suprītyā śivānayanakāmyayā
"The mountain, with joy and great affection, sent forth the other mountains, the brahmins, and others as well, out of the desire to bring Shiva there."
Verse 17 (shiva.rudra.110.17)
ते पर्वता द्विजाश्चैव सर्वमङ्गलपाणयः । सञ्जग्मुः सोत्सवाः प्रीत्या यत्र देवो महेश्वरः
te parvatā dvijāścaiva sarvamaṅgalapāṇayaḥ sañjagmuḥ sotsavāḥ prītyā yatra devo maheśvaraḥ
"Those mountains and brahmins, their hands filled with every auspicious object, went joyfully, amid festivity, to where the great Lord, Maheshvara, was."
Verse 18 (shiva.rudra.110.18)
तदा वादित्रघोषेण ब्रह्मघोषेण भूयसा । महोत्साहोऽभवत्तत्र गीतनृत्यान्वितेन हि
tadā vāditraghoṣeṇa brahmaghoṣeṇa bhūyasā mahotsāho'bhavattatra gītanṛtyānvitena hi
"Then, with the sound of instruments and the abundant chanting of Vedic recitation, together with song and dance, a great enthusiasm arose there."
Verse 19 (shiva.rudra.110.19)
श्रुत्वा वादित्रनिर्घोषं सर्वे शङ्करसेवकाः । उत्थितास्त्वैकपद्येन सदेवर्षिगणा मुदा
śrutvā vāditranirghoṣaṁ sarve śaṅkarasevakāḥ utthitāstvaikapadyena sadevarṣigaṇā mudā
"Hearing the sound of the instruments, all of Shankara's attendants, together with the hosts of gods and sages, rose up as one, with joy."
Verse 20 (shiva.rudra.110.20)
परस्परं समूचुस्ते हर्षनिर्भरमानसाः । अत्रागच्छन्ति गिरयः शिवानयनकाम्यया
parasparaṁ samūcuste harṣanirbharamānasāḥ atrāgacchanti girayaḥ śivānayanakāmyayā
"They said to one another, their minds overflowing with joy: 'The mountains are coming here, out of the desire to bring Shiva along.'"
Verse 21 (shiva.rudra.110.21)
पाणिग्रहणकालो हि नूनं सद्यः समागतः । महद्भाग्यं हि सर्वेषां सम्प्राप्तमिह मन्महे
pāṇigrahaṇakālo hi nūnaṁ sadyaḥ samāgataḥ mahadbhāgyaṁ hi sarveṣāṁ samprāptamiha manmahe
"'Surely the time for the taking of the hand has now come at once; we consider that great good fortune has been obtained here by all of us.'"
Verse 22 (shiva.rudra.110.22)
धन्या वयं विशेषेण विवाहं शिवयोर्ध्रुवम् । द्रक्ष्यामः परमप्रीत्या जगतां मङ्गलालयम्
dhanyā vayaṁ viśeṣeṇa vivāhaṁ śivayordhruvam drakṣyāmaḥ paramaprītyā jagatāṁ maṅgalālayam
"'We are indeed especially blessed — we shall surely now behold, with the greatest delight, the wedding of the two Shivas, the very abode of auspiciousness for all the worlds.'"
Verse 23 (shiva.rudra.110.23)
ब्रह्मोवाच । एवं यावदभूत्तेषां संवादस्तत्र चादरात् । तावत्सर्वे समायाताः पर्वतेन्द्रस्य मन्त्रिणः
brahmovāca evaṁ yāvadabhūtteṣāṁ saṁvādastatra cādarāt tāvatsarve samāyātāḥ parvatendrasya mantriṇaḥ
Brahma said: "While this conversation was taking place there among them with such delight, all the ministers of the lord of mountains arrived there."
Verse 24 (shiva.rudra.110.24)
ते गत्वा प्रार्थयाञ्चक्रुः शिवं विष्ण्वादिकानपि । कन्यादानोचितः कालो वर्तते गम्यतामिति
te gatvā prārthayāñcakruḥ śivaṁ viṣṇvādikānapi kanyādānocitaḥ kālo vartate gamyatāmiti
"Having gone there, they entreated Shiva and Vishnu and the others, saying, 'The time fitting for the giving away of the bride has come; let all now proceed.'"
Verse 25 (shiva.rudra.110.25)
ते तच्छ्रुत्वा सुराः सर्वे मुने विष्ण्वादयोऽखिलाः । मुमुदुश्चेतसातीव जयेत्यूचुर्गिरिं द्रुतम्
te tacchrutvā surāḥ sarve mune viṣṇvādayo'khilāḥ mumuduścetasātīva jayetyūcurgiriṁ drutam
"Hearing this, O sage, all the gods, headed by Vishnu, rejoiced exceedingly in their hearts, and quickly cried out 'Victory!' to the mountain."
Verse 26 (shiva.rudra.110.26)
शिवोऽपि मुमुदेऽतीव कालीप्रापणलालसः । गुप्तं चकार तच्चिह्नं मनस्येवाद्भुताकृतिः
śivo'pi mumude'tīva kālīprāpaṇalālasaḥ guptaṁ cakāra taccihnaṁ manasyevādbhutākṛtiḥ
"Shiva too rejoiced exceedingly, eager to obtain Kali; yet that wondrous-formed one kept the sign of it hidden within his mind alone."
Verse 27 (shiva.rudra.110.27)
अथ स्नानं कृतं तेन मङ्गलद्रव्यसंयुतम् । शूलिना सुप्रसन्नेन लोकानुग्रहकारिणा
atha snānaṁ kṛtaṁ tena maṅgaladravyasaṁyutam śūlinā suprasannena lokānugrahakāriṇā
"Then a bath, accompanied by auspicious substances, was taken by the Trident-bearer, greatly pleased, who acts always for the grace of the worlds."
Verse 28 (shiva.rudra.110.28)
स्नातः सुवाससा युक्तः सर्वैस्तैः परिवारितः । आरोपितो वृषस्कन्धे लोकपालैः सुसेवितः
snātaḥ suvāsasā yuktaḥ sarvaistaiḥ parivāritaḥ āropito vṛṣaskandhe lokapālaiḥ susevitaḥ
"Having bathed, and clothed in fine garments, surrounded by all of them, he was mounted upon the shoulders of his bull, well attended by the guardians of the world."
Verse 29 (shiva.rudra.110.29)
पुरस्कृत्य प्रभुं सर्वे जग्मुर्हिमगिरेर्गृहम् । वाद्यानि वादयन्तश्च कृतवन्तः कुतूहलम्
puraskṛtya prabhuṁ sarve jagmurhimagirergṛham vādyāni vādayantaśca kṛtavantaḥ kutūhalam
"Placing the Lord at their head, all went to the house of Himagiri, playing musical instruments and filled with eager delight."
Verse 30 (shiva.rudra.110.30)
हिमागप्रेषिता विप्रास्तथा ते पर्वतोत्तमाः । शम्भोरग्रचरा ह्यासन्कुतूहलसमन्विताः
himāgapreṣitā viprāstathā te parvatottamāḥ śambhoragracarā hyāsankutūhalasamanvitāḥ
"The brahmins sent by Himachala, and those excellent mountains, went before Shambhu, filled with eager anticipation."
Verse 31 (shiva.rudra.110.31)
बभौ छत्रेण महता ध्रियमाणो हि मूर्धनि । चामरैर्वीज्यमानोऽसौ सवितानो महेश्वरः
babhau chatreṇa mahatā dhriyamāṇo hi mūrdhani cāmarairvījyamāno'sau savitāno maheśvaraḥ
"Maheshvara shone forth, a great parasol held above his head, chowries waving over him, beneath a canopy."
Verse 32 (shiva.rudra.110.32)
अहं विष्णुस्तथा चेन्द्रो लोकपालास्तथैव च । अग्रगाः स्मातिशोभन्ते श्रिया परमया श्रिताः
ahaṁ viṣṇustathā cendro lokapālāstathaiva ca agragāḥ smātiśobhante śriyā paramayā śritāḥ
"I, Vishnu, and Indra likewise, and the guardians of the world too, went at the very front, shining forth, endowed with the highest splendor."
Verse 33 (shiva.rudra.110.33)
ततः शङ्खाश्च भेर्यश्च पटहानकगोमुखाः । पुनः पुनरवाद्यन्त वादित्राणि महोत्सवे
tataḥ śaṅkhāśca bheryaśca paṭahānakagomukhāḥ punaḥ punaravādyanta vāditrāṇi mahotsave
"Then conches, kettle-drums, small drums, and gomukha-horns — such instruments were sounded again and again in that great festival."
Verse 34 (shiva.rudra.110.34)
तथैव गायकाः सर्वे जगुः परममङ्गलम् । नर्तक्यो ननृतुः सर्वा नानातालसमन्विताः
tathaiva gāyakāḥ sarve jaguḥ paramamaṅgalam nartakyo nanṛtuḥ sarvā nānātālasamanvitāḥ
"Likewise all the singers sang the most auspicious songs; all the dancing-girls danced, keeping manifold rhythms."
Verse 35 (shiva.rudra.110.35)
एभिस्समेतो जगदेकबन्धु- र्ययौ तदानीं परमेशवर्चसा । सुसेव्यमानः सकलैः सुरेश्वरै- र्विकीर्यमाणः कुसुमैश्च हर्षितैः
ebhissameto jagadekabandhu- ryayau tadānīṁ parameśavarcasā susevyamānaḥ sakalaiḥ sureśvarai- rvikīryamāṇaḥ kusumaiśca harṣitaiḥ
Accompanied by all these, the sole kinsman of the universe went forth then, with the splendor of the Supreme Lord, well attended by all the lords of the gods, showered with flowers by the joyful throng.
Verse 36 (shiva.rudra.110.36)
सम्पूजितस्तदा शम्भुः प्रविष्टो यज्ञमण्डपम् । संस्तूयमानो बह्वीभिः स्तुतिभिः परमेश्वरः
sampūjitastadā śambhuḥ praviṣṭo yajñamaṇḍapam saṁstūyamāno bahvībhiḥ stutibhiḥ parameśvaraḥ
Then Shambhu, duly worshipped, the Supreme Lord, praised with many hymns, entered the sacrificial pavilion.
Verse 37 (shiva.rudra.110.37)
वृषादुत्तारयामासुर्महेशं पर्वतोत्तमाः । निन्युर्गृहान्तरं प्रीत्या महोत्सवपुरस्सरम्
vṛṣāduttārayāmāsurmaheśaṁ parvatottamāḥ ninyurgṛhāntaraṁ prītyā mahotsavapurassaram
The excellent mountains helped Mahesha descend from his bull, and led him with affection into the interior of the house, amid a great festival.
Verse 38 (shiva.rudra.110.38)
हिमालयोऽपि सम्प्राप्तं सदेवगणमीश्वरम् । प्रणम्य विधिवद्भक्त्या नीराजनमथाकरोत्
himālayo'pi samprāptaṁ sadevagaṇamīśvaram praṇamya vidhivadbhaktyā nīrājanamathākarot
Himalaya too, having duly and devotedly bowed to the Lord who had arrived together with his hosts of gods, then performed the waving of lamps before him.
Verse 39 (shiva.rudra.110.39)
सर्वान्सुरान्मुनीनन्यान् प्रणम्य समहोत्सवः । सम्मानमकरोत्तेषां प्रशंसन्स्वविधिं मुदा
sarvānsurānmunīnanyān praṇamya samahotsavaḥ sammānamakarotteṣāṁ praśaṁsansvavidhiṁ mudā
Amid the great festival, having bowed to all the gods, sages, and others, he honored them, joyfully praising his own good fortune.
Verse 40 (shiva.rudra.110.40)
सोऽगःसाच्युतमीशानं सुपाद्यार्घ्यपुरस्सरम् । सदेवमुख्यवर्गं च निनाय स्वालयान्तरम्
so'gaḥsācyutamīśānaṁ supādyārghyapurassaram sadevamukhyavargaṁ ca nināya svālayāntaram
That mountain, offering fine water for the feet and the ritual offering of arghya, led Ishana, together with Achyuta and the chief hosts of the gods, into the interior of his own mansion.
Verse 41 (shiva.rudra.110.41)
प्राङ्गणे स्थापयामास रत्नसिंहासनेषु तान् । सर्वान्विष्णुं च मामीशं विशिष्टांश्च विशेषतः
prāṅgaṇe sthāpayāmāsa ratnasiṁhāsaneṣu tān sarvānviṣṇuṁ ca māmīśaṁ viśiṣṭāṁśca viśeṣataḥ
In the courtyard he seated them all upon jeweled thrones — Vishnu, and me, and Ishana, and especially the most distinguished among them.
Verse 42 (shiva.rudra.110.42)
सखीभिर्मेनया प्रीत्या ब्राह्मणस्त्रीभिरेव च । अन्याभिश्च पुरन्ध्रीभिश्चक्रे नीराजनं मुदा
sakhībhirmenayā prītyā brāhmaṇastrībhireva ca anyābhiśca purandhrībhiścakre nīrājanaṁ mudā
With her companions, with Mena affectionately, with the wives of the brahmins, and with other married women too, the waving of lamps was joyfully performed.
Verse 43 (shiva.rudra.110.43)
पुरोधसा कृत्यविदा शङ्कराय महात्मने । मधुपर्कादिकं यद्यत्कृत्यं तत्तत्कृतं मुदा
purodhasā kṛtyavidā śaṅkarāya mahātmane madhuparkādikaṁ yadyatkṛtyaṁ tattatkṛtaṁ mudā
By the family priest, learned in the rites, whatever ceremonies were to be done for the great-souled Shankara — the offering of madhuparka and the rest — all of it was joyfully performed.
Verse 44 (shiva.rudra.110.44)
मया स नोदितस्तत्र पुरोधाः कृतवांस्तदा । सुमङ्गलं च यत्कर्म प्रस्तावसदृशं मुने
mayā sa noditastatra purodhāḥ kṛtavāṁstadā sumaṅgalaṁ ca yatkarma prastāvasadṛśaṁ mune
Urged on by me, the family priest then performed there whatever auspicious rite was fitting for the occasion, O sage.
Verse 45 (shiva.rudra.110.45)
अन्तर्वेद्यां महाप्रीत्या सम्प्रविश्य हिमाद्रिणा । यत्र सा पार्वती कन्या सर्वाभरणभूषिता
antarvedyāṁ mahāprītyā sampraviśya himādriṇā yatra sā pārvatī kanyā sarvābharaṇabhūṣitā
With great affection, having entered the inner sacrificial enclosure together with Himadri, to where that maiden Parvati, adorned with every ornament —
Verse 46 (shiva.rudra.110.46)
वेदिकोपरि तन्वङ्गी संस्थिता सुविराजिता । तत्र नीतो महादेवो विष्णुना च मया सह
vedikopari tanvaṅgī saṁsthitā suvirājitā tatra nīto mahādevo viṣṇunā ca mayā saha
"— her slender form seated upon the altar, shining gloriously, there Mahadeva was led, together with Vishnu and with me."
Verse 47 (shiva.rudra.110.47)
लग्नं निरीक्षमाणास्ते वाचस्पतिपुरोगमाः । कन्यादानोचितं तत्र बभूवुः परमोत्सवाः
lagnaṁ nirīkṣamāṇāste vācaspatipurogamāḥ kanyādānocitaṁ tatra babhūvuḥ paramotsavāḥ
They, headed by Vachaspati, watching for the auspicious moment fitting for the giving away of the bride, there was the greatest festivity.
Verse 48 (shiva.rudra.110.48)
तत्रोपविष्टो गर्गश्च यत्रास्ति घटिकालयम् । यावच्छेषा घटी तावत्कृतं प्रणवभाषणम्
tatropaviṣṭo gargaśca yatrāsti ghaṭikālayam yāvaccheṣā ghaṭī tāvatkṛtaṁ praṇavabhāṣaṇam
There Garga sat where the water-clock stood; for as long as the remaining portion of the time-measure lasted, the recitation of the sacred syllable Om was performed.
Verse 49 (shiva.rudra.110.49)
पुण्याहं प्रवदन् गर्गः समादध्रेऽञ्जलिं मुदा । पार्वत्यक्षतपूर्णं च ववृषे च शिवोपरि
puṇyāhaṁ pravadan gargaḥ samādadhre'ñjaliṁ mudā pārvatyakṣatapūrṇaṁ ca vavṛṣe ca śivopari
Garga, proclaiming the auspicious day, joyfully raised his cupped hands filled with unbroken rice, and showered it, together with Parvati, upon Shiva.
Verse 50 (shiva.rudra.110.50)
तया सम्पूजितो रुद्रो दध्यक्षतकुशाम्बुभिः । परमोदारया तत्र पार्वत्या रुचिरास्यया
tayā sampūjito rudro dadhyakṣatakuśāmbubhiḥ paramodārayā tatra pārvatyā rucirāsyayā
There Rudra was worshipped by that most generous, radiant-faced Parvati, with curds, unbroken rice, sacred kusha-grass, and water.
Verse 51 (shiva.rudra.110.51)
विलोकयन्ती तं शम्भुं यस्यार्थे परमं तपः । कृतं पुरा महाप्रीत्या विरराज शिवाति सा
vilokayantī taṁ śambhuṁ yasyārthe paramaṁ tapaḥ kṛtaṁ purā mahāprītyā virarāja śivāti sā
Gazing upon that Shambhu, for whose sake she had once performed such supreme austerity, that Shiva, filled with great delight, shone forth with surpassing beauty.
Verse 52 (shiva.rudra.110.52)
मया मुने तदोक्तस्तु गर्गादिमुनिभिश्च सः । समानर्च शिवां शम्भुः लौकिकाचारसंरतः
mayā mune tadoktastu gargādimunibhiśca saḥ samānarca śivāṁ śambhuḥ laukikācārasaṁrataḥ
Then, O sage, instructed by me and by the sages headed by Garga, Shambhu, following the customs of the world, likewise worshipped Shiva in return.
Verse 53 (shiva.rudra.110.53)
एवं परस्परं तौ वै पार्वतीपरमेश्वरौ । अर्चयन्तौ तदानीं च शुशुभाते जगन्मयौ
evaṁ parasparaṁ tau vai pārvatīparameśvarau arcayantau tadānīṁ ca śuśubhāte jaganmayau
Thus, worshipping one another in turn, Parvati and the Supreme Lord, both of the very nature of the universe, shone forth gloriously at that time.
Verse 54 (shiva.rudra.110.54)
त्रैलोक्यलक्ष्म्या संवीतौ निरीक्षन्तौ परस्परम् । तदा नीराजितौ लक्ष्म्यादिभिः स्त्रीभिर्विशेषतः
trailokyalakṣmyā saṁvītau nirīkṣantau parasparam tadā nīrājitau lakṣmyādibhiḥ strībhirviśeṣataḥ
Enveloped in the splendor of the three worlds, gazing at one another, they were then especially honored with the waving of lamps by Lakshmi and the other goddesses.
Verse 55 (shiva.rudra.110.55)
तथापरा वै द्विजयोषितश्च नीराजयामासुरथो पुरस्त्रियः । शिवां च शम्भुञ्च विलोकयन्त्योऽ- वापुर्मुदं ताः सकला महोत्सवम्
tathāparā vai dvijayoṣitaśca nīrājayāmāsuratho purastriyaḥ śivāṁ ca śambhuñca vilokayantyo'- vāpurmudaṁ tāḥ sakalā mahotsavam
And likewise the other brahmin women, and the women of the city too, performed the waving of lamps; gazing upon Shiva and Shambhu, all of them obtained great joy amid that grand festival.
