all the worldly brāhmaṇas, and the kṣatriyas and vaiśyas in due order; those who know the truth of the Vedas and Vedāṅgas, skilled in all the scriptures —

Verse 171 (shiva.vayaviya.66.171)

sāṅkhyā vaiśeṣikāścaiva yaugā naiyāyikā narāḥ | saurā brahmāstathā raudrā vaiṣṇavāścāpare narāḥ

followers of Sāṅkhya, and Vaiśeṣika, Yoga, and Nyāya; the Saura, Brāhma, and Raudra, the Vaiṣṇavas, and men of other traditions —

Verse 172 (shiva.vayaviya.66.172)

śiṣṭāḥ sarve viśiṣṭāśca śivaśāsanayantritāḥ | karmedamanumanyantāṃ mamābhipretasādhakam

all the disciplined and distinguished, governed by Śiva's command; may they approve this rite, which accomplishes what I desire.

Verse 173 (shiva.vayaviya.66.173)

śaivāḥ siddhāntamārgasthāḥ śaivāḥ pāśupatāstathā | śaivā mahāvratadharāḥ śaivāḥ kāpālikāḥ pare

the Śaivas established in the path of the Siddhānta, and the Pāśupata Śaivas too; the Śaivas bearing the great vow, and the other Śaivas, the Kāpālikas —

Verse 174 (shiva.vayaviya.66.174)

śivājñāpālakāḥ pūjyā mamāpi śivaśāsanāt | sarve mamānugṛhṇantu śaṃsantu saphalakriyām

guardians of Śiva's command, worthy of worship, approved for me too by Śiva's ordinance; may all of them show me grace, and approve this fruitful rite.

Verse 175 (shiva.vayaviya.66.175)

dakṣiṇajñānaniṣṭhāśca dakṣiṇottaramārgagāḥ | avirodhena vartantāṃ mantraṃ śreyo'rthino mama

those established in the Dakṣiṇa-knowledge, and those following the Dakṣiṇa-Uttara path; may they stand without opposition to this rite of mine, who seeks only well-being.

Verse 176 (shiva.vayaviya.66.176)

nāstikāśca śaṭhāścaiva kṛtaghnāścaiva tāmasāḥ | pāṣaṇḍāścātipāpāśca vartantāṃ dūrato mama

the nāstikas, and the deceitful too, the ungrateful too, and the tamasic; the hypocrites, and the utterly sinful — let them remain far from me.

Verse 177 (shiva.vayaviya.66.177)

bahubhiḥ kiṃ stutairatra ye'pi ke'pi cidāstikāḥ | sarve māmanugṛhṇantu santaḥ śaṃsantu maṅgalam

what use is there here in much praise? Whoever, whatever they may be, are believers; may all of them show me grace, and may the virtuous approve this auspicious rite.

Verse 178 (shiva.vayaviya.66.178)

namaḥ śivāya sāmbāya sasutāyādihetave | pañcāvaraṇarūpeṇa prapañcenāvṛtāya te

Salutation to Śiva, together with Umā, together with his sons, the primal cause! To you, who are enveloped by the expanse of the five enclosures — salutation!

Verse 179 (shiva.vayaviya.66.179)

ityuktvā daṇḍavad bhūmau praṇipatya śivaṃ śivām | japetpañcākṣarīṃ vidyāmaṣṭottaraśatāvarām

Having said this, prostrating on the ground like a rod, bowing to Śiva and Śivā, he should recite the five-syllabled Vidyā one hundred and eight times.

Verse 180 (shiva.vayaviya.66.180)

tathaiva śaktividyāṃ ca japitvā tatsamarpaṇam | kṛtvā taṃ kṣamayitveśaṃ pūjāśeṣaṃ samāpayet

Likewise, having recited the Śakti-vidyā too, and offered it up; having asked forgiveness of the Lord, he should complete the remaining part of the worship.

Verse 181 (shiva.vayaviya.66.181)

etatpuṇyatamaṃ stotraṃ śivayorhṛdayaṅgamam | sarvābhīṣṭapradaṃ sākṣādbhuktimuktyaikasādhanam

This most meritorious hymn, dear to the hearts of Śiva and Śivā, fulfills every desire, and is, in visible reality, the sole means to both worldly enjoyment and liberation.

Verse 182 (shiva.vayaviya.66.182)

ya idaṃ kīrtayennityaṃ śṛṇuyādvā samāhitaḥ | sa vidhūyāśu pāpāni śivasāyujyamāpnuyāt

Whoever ever recites this, or listens to it with focused mind, quickly washes away his sins and attains union with Śiva.

Verse 183 (shiva.vayaviya.66.183)

goghnaścaiva kṛtaghnaśca vīrahā bhrūṇahāpi vā | śaraṇāgataghātī ca mitraviśrambhaghātakaḥ

A slayer of a cow, and the ungrateful, a slayer of a hero, or even a slayer of an embryo; one who kills a person who has sought refuge, or who betrays a friend's trust —

Verse 184 (shiva.vayaviya.66.184)

duṣṭapāpasamācāro mātṛhā pitṛhāpi vā | stavenānena japtena tattatpāpāt pramucyate

one of wicked, sinful conduct, or even a slayer of mother or father — through the recitation of this hymn, he is freed from each of those sins.

Verse 185 (shiva.vayaviya.66.185)

duḥsvapnādimahānarthasūcakeṣu bhayeṣu ca | yadi saṅkīrtayedetanna tato'narthabhāgbhavet

In fears portending great misfortune, such as bad dreams and the like, if one recites this, he does not become a partaker of that misfortune.

Verse 186 (shiva.vayaviya.66.186)

āyurārogyamaiśvaryaṃ yaccānyadapi vāñchitam | stotrasyāsya jape tiṣṭhaṃstatsarvaṃ labhate naraḥ

Longevity, health, sovereignty, and whatever else is desired — the man who remains constant in the recitation of this hymn obtains all of it.

Verse 187 (shiva.vayaviya.66.187)

asampūjya śivastotraṃ japātphalamudāhṛtam | sampūjya ca jape tasya phalaṃ vaktuṃ na śakyate

The fruit declared for the mere recitation, without worship, has been told; but the fruit of its recitation together with worship cannot be told at all.

Verse 188 (shiva.vayaviya.66.188)

āstāmiyaṃ phalāvāptirasmin saṅkīrtite sati | sārdhamambikayā devaḥ śrutyaivaṃ divi tiṣṭhati

Let alone this attainment of fruit — when this is recited, the god, together with Ambikā, by this very utterance takes his stand in the heavens.

Verse 189 (shiva.vayaviya.66.189)

tasmānnabhasi sampūjya devadevaṃ sahomayā | kṛtāñjalipuṭastiṣṭhan stotrametadudīrayet

Therefore, having duly worshipped, in the sky, the god of gods together with Umā, standing with joined palms, one should recite this hymn.
