tapaḥ kimanyatkartavyaṁ labdhaṁ tava tu darśanam aruṇādrirayaṁ dṛṣṭaḥ śrutaṁ māhātmyamasya ca
'What other austerity now remains to be done? Your very sight has already been gained; this Arunadri has been seen, and its greatness too has been heard.'
Verse 116 (skanda.1.110.116)
aho bhūmestu vaicitryaṁ yato dṛṣṭā divo'dhikā yatraiva taijasaṁ liṁgaṁ devatānāṁ varapradaḥ
'Ah, what a wonder is this earth, seen to surpass even heaven itself — for here alone is that linga of light, granter of boons to the gods.'
Verse 117 (skanda.1.110.117)
śivaḥ prasādasiddho me darśitaṁ sthānamātmanaḥ atraiva śivamārādhya vaśīkuryāṁ jagadgurum
'Shiva has been won by his own grace toward me; he has shown me his own very abode. Worshipping Shiva right here, I shall bring the guru of the world under my sway.'
Verse 118 (skanda.1.110.118)
avinābhūtamaikyaṁ me devena bhavatātsadā tvayā kṛtena sāhyena bhaveyaṁ śivanāyikā
'May my inseparable oneness with the God endure forever; through the help rendered by you I shall become the consort of Shiva.'
Verse 119 (skanda.1.110.119)
iti gautamasaṁnidhau tadānīṁ kṛtasaṁvittapa ādareṇa kartum abhajadrucirāṁ ca parṇaśālāṁ muninā cānumatā tatheti bhaktyā
Thus, in Gautama's presence, resolving there and then to perform austerity with reverence, she, with devotion, took up a delightful leaf-hut, to which the sage gave his consent, saying, 'So be it.'
Verse 120 (skanda.1.110.120)
sukumāratanuḥ saroruhākṣī ghanatuṁgastanakalpitottarīyā jaṭilā harinīlaratnakāṁtirgirijā rājati dehavattapaḥśrīḥ
Her body delicate, her eyes like lotuses, an upper garment fashioned across her full, high breasts, her hair matted, her radiance like that of a sapphire — Girija shone forth as though the very glory of austerity had taken on a body.
Verse 121 (skanda.1.110.121)
niyamairbahubhistapoviśeṣaiḥ kratuṣu prāptavicitrayogabaṁdhaiḥ nigamāgamadṛṣṭadharmamārgaṁ sakalaṁ sā tu kṛtārthatāmanaiṣīt
Through many observances, through austerities of surpassing kind, through the wondrous disciplines of yoga attained in her rites, she brought to fulfilment the entire path of dharma seen in the Vedas and the Agamas alike.
Verse 122 (skanda.1.110.122)
tapasā vividhenatapyamānā na kadācitparikhedamāpa tanvī hariratnamayī ca kāpi vallī nitarāṁ dīptimatī babhūva bālā
Scorched by manifold austerities, that slender one never once knew weariness; that maiden became, as it were, a vine wrought of sapphire, exceedingly radiant.
