The Glory of Lakshmi-tirtha and Yudhishthira's Attainment of Boundless Prosperity
Verse 1 (skanda.3.21.1)
श्रीसूत उवाच। जटा तीर्थाभिधे तीर्थे सर्वपातकनाशने। स्नानं कृत्वा विशुद्धात्मा लक्ष्मीतीर्थं ततो व्रजेत्
śrīsūta uvāca jaṭā tīrthābhidhe tīrthe sarvapātakanāśane snānaṁ kṛtvā viśuddhātmā lakṣmītīrthaṁ tato vrajet
Suta said: Having bathed at the tirtha called Jata, destroyer of all sins, purified in soul, one should then go to Lakshmi-tirtha.
Verse 2 (skanda.3.21.2)
यंयं कामं समुद्दिश्य लक्ष्मीतीर्थे द्विजोत्तमाः। स्नानं समाचरेन्मर्त्यस्तंतं कामं समश्नुते
yaṁyaṁ kāmaṁ samuddiśya lakṣmītīrthe dvijottamāḥ snānaṁ samācarenmartyastaṁtaṁ kāmaṁ samaśnute
Whatever desire a mortal aims at, O best of brahmins, and performs the bath at Lakshmi-tirtha, that very desire he obtains.
Verse 3 (skanda.3.21.3)
महादारिद्र्यशमनं महाधान्यसमृद्धिदम्। महादुःखप्रशमनं महासंपद्विवर्धनम्
mahādāridryaśamanaṁ mahādhānyasamṛddhidam mahāduḥkhapraśamanaṁ mahāsaṁpadvivardhanam
It pacifies great poverty, bestows abundance of great wealth of grain, pacifies great sorrow, and increases great prosperity.
Verse 4 (skanda.3.21.4)
अत्र स्नात्वा धर्मपुत्रो महदैश्वर्यमाप्तवान्। इन्द्रप्रस्थे वसन्पूर्वं श्रीकृष्णेन प्रचोदितः
atra snātvā dharmaputro mahadaiśvaryamāptavān indraprasthe vasanpūrvaṁ śrīkṛṣṇena pracoditaḥ
Bathing here, Dharmaputra obtained great lordship, dwelling formerly at Indraprastha, urged by Shri Krishna.
Verse 5 (skanda.3.21.5)
ऋषय ऊचुः। यथैश्वर्यं धर्मपुत्रो लक्ष्मीतीर्थे निमज्जनात्। आप्तवान्कृष्णवचनात्तन्नो ब्रूहि महामुने
ṛṣaya ūcuḥ yathaiśvaryaṁ dharmaputro lakṣmītīrthe nimajjanāt āptavānkṛṣṇavacanāttanno brūhi mahāmune
The sages said: How did Dharmaputra obtain lordship by immersion at Lakshmi-tirtha, at Krishna's word? Tell us that, O great sage.
Verse 6 (skanda.3.21.6)
श्रीसूत उवाच। इन्द्रप्रस्थे पुरा विप्रा धृतराष्ट्रेण चोदिताः। न्यवसन्पांडवाः पंच महाबलपराक्रमाः
śrīsūta uvāca indraprasthe purā viprā dhṛtarāṣṭreṇa coditāḥ nyavasanpāṁḍavāḥ paṁca mahābalaparākramāḥ
Suta said: Formerly, O brahmins, urged by Dhritarashtra, the five Pandavas, of great strength and prowess, dwelt at Indraprastha.
Verse 7 (skanda.3.21.7)
इन्द्रप्रस्थं ययौ कृष्णः कदाचित्तान्निरीक्षितुम्। तमागतमेभिप्रेक्ष्य पांडवास्ते समुत्सुकाः
indraprasthaṁ yayau kṛṣṇaḥ kadācittānnirīkṣitum tamāgatamebhiprekṣya pāṁḍavāste samutsukāḥ
Krishna once went to Indraprastha to see them; seeing him arrived, those Pandavas, eager,
Verse 8 (skanda.3.21.8)
स्वगृहं प्रापयामासुर्मुदा परमया युताः। कञ्चित्कालमसौ कृष्णस्तत्रावात्सीत्पुरोत्तमे
svagṛhaṁ prāpayāmāsurmudā paramayā yutāḥ kañcitkālamasau kṛṣṇastatrāvātsītpurottame
brought him to their own house, filled with the highest joy. Krishna dwelt there in that best of cities for some time.
Verse 9 (skanda.3.21.9)
कदाचित्कृष्णमाहूय पूजयित्वा युधिष्ठिरः। पप्रच्छ पुंडरीकाक्षं वासुदेवं जगत्पतिम्
kadācitkṛṣṇamāhūya pūjayitvā yudhiṣṭhiraḥ papraccha puṁḍarīkākṣaṁ vāsudevaṁ jagatpatim
Once, having invited and worshipped Krishna, Yudhishthira asked the lotus-eyed Vasudeva, lord of the world.
Verse 10 (skanda.3.21.10)
युधिष्ठिर उवाच। कृष्णकृष्ण महाप्राज्ञ येन धर्मेण मानवाः। लभंते महदैश्वर्यं तन्नो ब्रूहि महामते। इत्युक्तो धर्मपुत्रेण कृष्णः प्राह युधिष्ठिरम्
yudhiṣṭhira uvāca kṛṣṇakṛṣṇa mahāprājña yena dharmeṇa mānavāḥ labhaṁte mahadaiśvaryaṁ tanno brūhi mahāmate ityukto dharmaputreṇa kṛṣṇaḥ prāha yudhiṣṭhiram
Yudhishthira said: "O Krishna, Krishna, greatly wise one! By what dharma men obtain great lordship, tell us that, O wise one." Thus addressed by Dharmaputra, Krishna spoke to Yudhishthira.
Verse 11 (skanda.3.21.11)
श्रीकृष्ण उवाच। धर्मपुत्र महाभाग गन्धमादनपर्वते
śrīkṛṣṇa uvāca dharmaputra mahābhāga gandhamādanaparvate
Shri Krishna said: "O son of Dharma, greatly fortunate one, on Mount Gandhamadana
Verse 12 (skanda.3.21.12)
लक्ष्मी तीर्थमिति ख्यातमस्त्यैश्वर्यैककारणम्। तत्र स्नानं कुरुष्व त्वमैश्वर्यं ते भविष्यति
lakṣmī tīrthamiti khyātamastyaiśvaryaikakāraṇam tatra snānaṁ kuruṣva tvamaiśvaryaṁ te bhaviṣyati
there exists a tirtha known as Lakshmi-tirtha, the sole cause of lordship; bathe there, and lordship shall be yours.
Verse 13 (skanda.3.21.13)
तत्र स्नानेन वर्धंते धनधान्यसमृद्धयः। सर्वे सपत्ना नश्यंति क्षात्रमेषां विवर्द्धते
tatra snānena vardhaṁte dhanadhānyasamṛddhayaḥ sarve sapatnā naśyaṁti kṣātrameṣāṁ vivarddhate
By bathing there, abundance of wealth and grain increases; all rivals perish, and one's martial power grows.
Verse 14 (skanda.3.21.14)
तीर्थे सस्नुः पुरा देवा लक्ष्मीनामनि पुण्यदे। अलभन्त्सर्वमैश्वर्यं तेन पुण्येन धर्मज
tīrthe sasnuḥ purā devā lakṣmīnāmani puṇyade alabhantsarvamaiśvaryaṁ tena puṇyena dharmaja
At that tirtha the gods bathed of old, O bestower of merit called Lakshmi, and obtained all lordship by that merit, O son of Dharma.
Verse 15 (skanda.3.21.15)
असुरांश्च महावीर्यान्समरे जघ्नुरंजसा। मही लक्ष्मीश्च धर्मश्च तत्तीर्थस्नायिनां नृणाम्
asurāṁśca mahāvīryānsamare jaghnuraṁjasā mahī lakṣmīśca dharmaśca tattīrthasnāyināṁ nṛṇām
And they slew in battle, with ease, the danavas of great valour. Earth, Lakshmi, and Dharma shall come, before long, to men who bathe at that tirtha -
Verse 16 (skanda.3.21.16)
भविष्यत्यचिरादेव संशयं मा कृथा इह। तपोभिः क्रतुभिर्दानैराशीर्वादैश्च पांडव
bhaviṣyatyacirādeva saṁśayaṁ mā kṛthā iha tapobhiḥ kratubhirdānairāśīrvādaiśca pāṁḍava
have no doubt of this here. By austerities, by sacrifices, by gifts, and by blessings, O Pandava,
Verse 17 (skanda.3.21.17)
ऐश्वर्यं प्राप्यते यद्वल्लक्ष्मीतीर्थनिमज्जनात्। सर्वपापानि नश्यंति विप्रा यांति लयं सदा।
aiśvaryaṁ prāpyate yadvallakṣmītīrthanimajjanāt sarvapāpāni naśyaṁti viprā yāṁti layaṁ sadā
whatever lordship is obtained - that same is obtained by immersion at Lakshmi-tirtha. All sins are destroyed, O brahmins; they ever go to dissolution.
Verse 18 (skanda.3.21.18)
व्याधयश्च विनश्यंति लक्ष्मीतीर्थनिषेवणात्। श्रेयः सुविपुलं लोके लभ्यते नात्र संशयः
vyādhayaśca vinaśyaṁti lakṣmītīrthaniṣevaṇāt śreyaḥ suvipulaṁ loke labhyate nātra saṁśayaḥ
And diseases are destroyed by resorting to Lakshmi-tirtha; abundant good fortune is obtained in the world - there is no doubt of this.
Verse 19 (skanda.3.21.19)
स्नानमात्रेण वै लक्ष्म्यास्तीर्थेऽस्मि न्धर्मनंदन। रंभामप्सरसां श्रेष्ठां लब्धवानवधो नृपः
snānamātreṇa vai lakṣmyāstīrthe'smi ndharmanaṁdana raṁbhāmapsarasāṁ śreṣṭhāṁ labdhavānavadho nṛpaḥ
By mere bathing at this tirtha of Lakshmi, O son of Dharma, a blameless king obtained Rambha, foremost among the Apsarases.
Verse 20 (skanda.3.21.20)
स्नात्वात्र तीर्थे पुण्ये तु कुबेरो नरवाहनः। स महापद्ममुख्यानां निधीनां नायकोऽ भवत्
snātvātra tīrthe puṇye tu kubero naravāhanaḥ sa mahāpadmamukhyānāṁ nidhīnāṁ nāyako' bhavat
Having bathed at this holy tirtha, Kubera, the lord of men-as-vehicles, became the chief of the treasures headed by Mahapadma.
Verse 21 (skanda.3.21.21)
तस्मात्त्वमपि राजेंद्र लक्ष्मीतीर्थे शुभप्रदे। स्नात्वा वृकोदरमुखैरनुजैरपि संवृतः
tasmāttvamapi rājeṁdra lakṣmītīrthe śubhaprade snātvā vṛkodaramukhairanujairapi saṁvṛtaḥ
Therefore you too, O Indra among kings, at Lakshmi-tirtha, the bestower of auspiciousness, having bathed, together with your younger brothers headed by Vrikodara (Bhima),
Verse 22 (skanda.3.21.22)
लप्स्यसे महतीं लक्ष्मीं जेष्यसे च रिपूनपि। संदेहो नात्र कर्तव्यः पैतृष्वसेय धर्मज
lapsyase mahatīṁ lakṣmīṁ jeṣyase ca ripūnapi saṁdeho nātra kartavyaḥ paitṛṣvaseya dharmaja
shall obtain great Lakshmi (wealth), and shall conquer your enemies too. There is no doubt to be entertained here, O son of Dharma, nephew of my paternal aunt.
Verse 23 (skanda.3.21.23)
इत्युक्तो धर्मपुत्रोऽयं कृष्णेनाद्भुतदर्शनः। सानुजः प्रययौ शीघ्रं गन्धमादनपर्वतम्
ityukto dharmaputro'yaṁ kṛṣṇenādbhutadarśanaḥ sānujaḥ prayayau śīghraṁ gandhamādanaparvatam
Thus addressed by Krishna, of wondrous appearance, this Dharmaputra, together with his younger brothers, quickly set out for Mount Gandhamadana.
Verse 24 (skanda.3.21.24)
लक्ष्मी तीर्थं ततो गत्वा महदैश्वर्यकारणम्। सस्नौ युधिष्ठिरस्तत्र सानुजो नियमान्वितः
lakṣmī tīrthaṁ tato gatvā mahadaiśvaryakāraṇam sasnau yudhiṣṭhirastatra sānujo niyamānvitaḥ
Then, having gone to Lakshmi-tirtha, the cause of great lordship, Yudhishthira bathed there, together with his younger brothers, observing his vows.
Verse 25 (skanda.3.21.25)
लक्ष्मतीर्थस्य तोये स सर्वपातकनाशने। सानुजो मासमेकं तु सस्नौ नियमपूर्वकम्
lakṣmatīrthasya toye sa sarvapātakanāśane sānujo māsamekaṁ tu sasnau niyamapūrvakam
In the water of Lakshmi-tirtha, destroyer of all sin, he, together with his younger brothers, bathed for a full month, observing his vows.
Verse 26 (skanda.3.21.26)
गोभूतिलहिरण्यादीन्ब्राह्मणेभ्यो ददौ बहून्। सानुजो धर्मपुत्रोऽसाविंद्रप्रस्थं ययौ ततः
gobhūtilahiraṇyādīnbrāhmaṇebhyo dadau bahūn sānujo dharmaputro'sāviṁdraprasthaṁ yayau tataḥ
He gave to brahmins many gifts of cows, land, sesame, gold and the like; then Dharmaputra, together with his younger brothers, went to Indraprastha.
Verse 27 (skanda.3.21.27)
राजसूयक्रतुं कर्तुं तत एच्छद्युधिष्ठिरः। कृष्णं समाह्वयामास यियक्षुर्धर्मनंदनं
rājasūyakratuṁ kartuṁ tata ecchadyudhiṣṭhiraḥ kṛṣṇaṁ samāhvayāmāsa yiyakṣurdharmanaṁdanaṁ
Then Yudhishthira desired to perform the Rajasuya sacrifice; he, the son of Dharma, wishing to sacrifice, invited Krishna.
Verse 28 (skanda.3.21.28)
कृष्णो धर्मजदूतेन समाहूतः ससंभ्रमः। चतुर्भिरश्वैः संयुक्तं रथमा रुह्य वेगिनम्
kṛṣṇo dharmajadūtena samāhūtaḥ sasaṁbhramaḥ caturbhiraśvaiḥ saṁyuktaṁ rathamā ruhya veginam
Krishna, invited by the messenger of Dharmaja, in haste, mounting a swift chariot yoked with four horses,
Verse 29 (skanda.3.21.29)
सत्यभामासहचर इंद्रप्रस्थं समाययौ। तमागतं समालोक्य प्रमोदाद्धर्मनंदनः
satyabhāmāsahacara iṁdraprasthaṁ samāyayau tamāgataṁ samālokya pramodāddharmanaṁdanaḥ
together with Satyabhama, came to Indraprastha. Seeing him arrived, the son of Dharma, out of delight,
Verse 30 (skanda.3.21.30)
न्यवेदयत्स कृष्णाय राजसूयोद्यमं तदा। अन्वमन्यत कृष्णोपि तथैव क्रियतामिति
nyavedayatsa kṛṣṇāya rājasūyodyamaṁ tadā anvamanyata kṛṣṇopi tathaiva kriyatāmiti
reported to Krishna his intention for the Rajasuya. Krishna too approved, saying "Let it be done thus."
Verse 31 (skanda.3.21.31)
वाक्यं च युक्तिसंयुक्तं धर्मपुत्रमभाषत। पैतृष्वस्रेय धर्मात्मञ्च्छृणु पथ्यं वचो मम।
vākyaṁ ca yuktisaṁyuktaṁ dharmaputramabhāṣata paitṛṣvasreya dharmātmañcchṛṇu pathyaṁ vaco mama
And he spoke to Dharmaputra words full of good counsel: "O righteous one, nephew of my paternal aunt, listen to my beneficial word.
Verse 32 (skanda.3.21.32)
दुष्करो राजसूयोऽयं सर्वैरपि महीश्वरैः। अनेकशतपादातरथकुंजरवाजिमान्
duṣkaro rājasūyo'yaṁ sarvairapi mahīśvaraiḥ anekaśatapādātarathakuṁjaravājimān
This Rajasuya is difficult for even all the lords of the earth. One who has many hundreds of infantry, chariots, elephants, and horses -
Verse 33 (skanda.3.21.33)
महीपतिरिमं यज्ञं कर्तुमर्हति नेतरः। दिशो दश विजेतव्या प्रथमं वलिना त्वया
mahīpatirimaṁ yajñaṁ kartumarhati netaraḥ diśo daśa vijetavyā prathamaṁ valinā tvayā
only such a king is fit to perform this sacrifice, not another. First, by force, the ten directions must be conquered by you,
Verse 34 (skanda.3.21.34)
पराजितेभ्यः शत्रुभ्यो गृहीत्वा करमुत्तमम्। तेन कांचनजातेन कर्तव्योऽयं क्रतूत्तमः
parājitebhyaḥ śatrubhyo gṛhītvā karamuttamam tena kāṁcanajātena kartavyo'yaṁ kratūttamaḥ
Having taken excellent tribute from the defeated enemies, with that gold thus obtained, this excellent sacrifice should be performed.
Verse 35 (skanda.3.21.35)
रोचये युक्तिविदहं न हि त्वां भीषयामि भोः। अतः क्रतुसमारंभात्पूर्वं दिग्विजयं कुरु
rocaye yuktividahaṁ na hi tvāṁ bhīṣayāmi bhoḥ ataḥ kratusamāraṁbhātpūrvaṁ digvijayaṁ kuru
I say this out of knowledge of what is proper, not to frighten you, sir. Therefore, before the beginning of the sacrifice, conquer the directions (dig-vijaya).
Verse 36 (skanda.3.21.36)
ततो धर्मात्मजः श्रुत्वा कृष्णस्य वचनं हितम्। प्रशंसन्देवकीपुत्रमाजुहाव निजानुजान्
tato dharmātmajaḥ śrutvā kṛṣṇasya vacanaṁ hitam praśaṁsandevakīputramājuhāva nijānujān
Then the son of Dharma, having heard Krishna's beneficial word, praising the son of Devaki, summoned his own younger brothers.
Verse 37 (skanda.3.21.37)
आहूय चतुरो भ्रातॄन्धर्मजः प्राह हर्षयन्। अयि भीम महाबाहो बहुवीर्य धनंजय
āhūya caturo bhrātṝndharmajaḥ prāha harṣayan ayi bhīma mahābāho bahuvīrya dhanaṁjaya
Having summoned his four brothers, Dharmaja spoke to them, gladdening them: "O Bhima, mighty-armed! O Dhananjaya of great valour!
Verse 38 (skanda.3.21.38)
यमौ च सुकुमागंगौ शत्रुसंहारदीक्षितौ। चिकीर्षामि महायज्ञं राजसूयमनुत्तमम्
yamau ca sukumāgaṁgau śatrusaṁhāradīkṣitau cikīrṣāmi mahāyajñaṁ rājasūyamanuttamam
And you two twins, sons of Sukumara-Madri, consecrated to the destruction of enemies! I wish to perform the supreme great sacrifice, the Rajasuya.
Verse 39 (skanda.3.21.39)
स च सर्वान्रणे जित्वा कर्तव्यः पृथिवीपतीन्। अतो विजेतुं भूपालांश्चत्वरोऽपि ससैनिकाः
sa ca sarvānraṇe jitvā kartavyaḥ pṛthivīpatīn ato vijetuṁ bhūpālāṁścatvaro'pi sasainikāḥ
And it must be performed after conquering all the lords of the earth in battle. Therefore, to conquer the kings, all four of you,
Verse 40 (skanda.3.21.40)
दिशश्चतस्रो गच्छंतु भवंतो वीर्यवत्तराः। युष्माभिराहतैर्द्रव्यैः करिष्यामि महाक्रतुम्
diśaścatasro gacchaṁtu bhavaṁto vīryavattarāḥ yuṣmābhirāhatairdravyaiḥ kariṣyāmi mahākratum
with your armies, go to the four directions, you who are more valorous. With the wealth won by you, I shall perform the great sacrifice.
Verse 41 (skanda.3.21.41)
इत्युक्ताः सादरं सर्वे वृकोदरमुखास्तदा। प्रसन्नवदना भूत्वा धर्मपुत्रानुजाः पुरात्
ityuktāḥ sādaraṁ sarve vṛkodaramukhāstadā prasannavadanā bhūtvā dharmaputrānujāḥ purāt
Thus addressed with respect, all of them, headed by Vrikodara, then, with cheerful faces, the younger brothers of Dharmaputra, from the city,
Verse 42 (skanda.3.21.42)
राज्ञां जयाय सर्वासु निर्ययुर्दिक्षु पांडवाः। ते सर्वे नृपतीञ्जित्वा चतुर्दिक्षु स्थितान्बहून्
rājñāṁ jayāya sarvāsu niryayurdikṣu pāṁḍavāḥ te sarve nṛpatīñjitvā caturdikṣu sthitānbahūn
set out in all directions for the conquest of kings, those Pandavas. Having conquered all the kings stationed in the four directions,
Verse 43 (skanda.3.21.43)
स्ववशे स्थापयित्वा तान्नृपतीन्पांडुनंदनाः। तैर्दत्तं बहुधा द्रव्यमसंख्यातमनुत्तमम्
svavaśe sthāpayitvā tānnṛpatīnpāṁḍunaṁdanāḥ tairdattaṁ bahudhā dravyamasaṁkhyātamanuttamam
and having established those kings under their own control, those sons of Pandu, with the manifold, countless, excellent wealth given by them,
Verse 44 (skanda.3.21.44)
आदाय स्वपुरं तूर्णमाययुः कृष्णसंश्रयाः। भीमः समाययौ तत्र महाबलपराक्रमः
ādāya svapuraṁ tūrṇamāyayuḥ kṛṣṇasaṁśrayāḥ bhīmaḥ samāyayau tatra mahābalaparākramaḥ
taking it, quickly returned to their own city, taking refuge in Krishna. Bhima came there, of great strength and prowess,
Verse 45 (skanda.3.21.45)
शतभारसुवर्णानि समादाय पुरोत्तमम्। सहस्रं भारमादाय सुवर्णानां ततोऽर्जुनः
śatabhārasuvarṇāni samādāya purottamam sahasraṁ bhāramādāya suvarṇānāṁ tato'rjunaḥ
taking a hundred loads of gold, to that best of cities; then Arjuna, taking a thousand loads of gold,
Verse 46 (skanda.3.21.46)
शक्रप्रस्थं समायातो महाबलपराक्रमः। शतभारं सुवर्णानां प्रगृह्य नकुलस्तथा
śakraprasthaṁ samāyāto mahābalaparākramaḥ śatabhāraṁ suvarṇānāṁ pragṛhya nakulastathā
of great strength and prowess, came to Shakraprastha; and Nakula, having taken a hundred loads of gold,
Verse 47 (skanda.3.21.47)
समागतो महातेजाः शक्रप्रस्थं पुरोत्तमम्। दत्तान्विभीषणेनाथ स्वर्णतालांश्चतुर्दश
samāgato mahātejāḥ śakraprasthaṁ purottamam dattānvibhīṣaṇenātha svarṇatālāṁścaturdaśa
of great splendour, came to that best of cities, Shakraprastha; and, having taken fourteen gold plates given by Vibhishana,
Verse 48 (skanda.3.21.48)
दाक्षिणात्यमहीपानां गृहीत्वा धनसंचयम्। सहदेवोपि सहसा समा यातो निजां पुरीम्
dākṣiṇātyamahīpānāṁ gṛhītvā dhanasaṁcayam sahadevopi sahasā samā yāto nijāṁ purīm
and having taken a store of wealth from the kings of the southern land, Sahadeva too swiftly came to his own city.
Verse 49 (skanda.3.21.49)
लक्षकोटिसहस्राणि लक्षकोटिशतान्यपि। सुवर्णानि ददौ कृष्णो धर्मपुत्राय यादवः
lakṣakoṭisahasrāṇi lakṣakoṭiśatānyapi suvarṇāni dadau kṛṣṇo dharmaputrāya yādavaḥ
Krishna, the Yadava, gave to Dharmaputra thousands of lakhs and crores, and hundreds of lakhs of crores, of gold pieces.
Verse 50 (skanda.3.21.50)
स्वानुजैराहृतैरेवमसं ख्यातैर्महाधनैः। कृष्णदत्तैरसंख्यातैर्धनैरपि युधिष्ठिरः
svānujairāhṛtairevamasaṁ khyātairmahādhanaiḥ kṛṣṇadattairasaṁkhyātairdhanairapi yudhiṣṭhiraḥ

Verse 51 (skanda.3.21.51)
कृष्णाश्रयोऽयजद्विप्रा राजसूयेन पांडवः। तस्मिन्यागे ददौ द्रव्यं ब्राह्मणेभ्यो यथेष्टतः
kṛṣṇāśrayo'yajadviprā rājasūyena pāṁḍavaḥ tasminyāge dadau dravyaṁ brāhmaṇebhyo yatheṣṭataḥ
under the protection of Krishna, sacrificed, O brahmins, with the Rajasuya, that Pandava. In that sacrifice he gave wealth to brahmins according to their wish.
Verse 52 (skanda.3.21.52)
अन्नानि प्रददौ तत्र ब्राह्मणेभ्यो युधिष्ठिरः। वस्त्राणि गाश्च भूमिं च भूषणानि ददौ तथा
annāni pradadau tatra brāhmaṇebhyo yudhiṣṭhiraḥ vastrāṇi gāśca bhūmiṁ ca bhūṣaṇāni dadau tathā
Yudhishthira gave food there to brahmins; he likewise gave garments, cows, land, and ornaments.
Verse 53 (skanda.3.21.53)
अर्थिनः परितुष्यंति यावता कांचनादिना। ततोपि द्विगुणं तेभ्यो दापयामास धर्मजः
arthinaḥ parituṣyaṁti yāvatā kāṁcanādinā tatopi dviguṇaṁ tebhyo dāpayāmāsa dharmajaḥ
Petitioners are satisfied with however much gold and the like they receive; but the son of Dharma had double that amount given to them.
Verse 54 (skanda.3.21.54)
इयंति दत्तान्यर्थिभ्यो धनानि विविधान्यपि। इतीयत्तां परिच्छेत्तुं न शक्ता ब्रह्मकोटयः
iyaṁti dattānyarthibhyo dhanāni vividhānyapi itīyattāṁ paricchettuṁ na śaktā brahmakoṭayaḥ
"This much of various wealth has been given to petitioners" - to reckon that amount, even crores of Brahmas would not be able.
Verse 55 (skanda.3.21.55)
अर्थिभिर्दीयमानानि दृष्ट्वा तत्र धनानि वै। सर्वस्वमप्यहो राज्ञा दत्तमित्यब्रवीज्जनः
arthibhirdīyamānāni dṛṣṭvā tatra dhanāni vai sarvasvamapyaho rājñā dattamityabravījjanaḥ
Seeing the wealth being given there to petitioners, the people said: "Ah, everything indeed has been given away by the king!"
Verse 56 (skanda.3.21.56)
दृष्ट्वा कोशास्तथा नंताननंतमणिकांचनान्
dṛṣṭvā kośāstathā naṁtānanaṁtamaṇikāṁcanān
Yet seeing the treasuries, filled with endless jewels and gold,

स्वल्पं हि दत्तमर्थिभ्य इत्यवोचञ्जनास्तदा। इष्ट्वैवं राजसूयेन धर्मपुत्रः सहानुजः
svalpaṁ hi dattamarthibhya ityavocañjanāstadā iṣṭvaivaṁ rājasūyena dharmaputraḥ sahānujaḥ
the people then said: "Yet only a little has been given to petitioners." Having thus sacrificed with the Rajasuya, Dharmaputra, together with his younger brothers,

बहुवित्तसमृद्धः सन्रेमे तत्र पुरोत्तमे। लक्ष्मीतीर्थस्य माहात्म्याद्धर्मपुत्रो युधिष्ठिरः
bahuvittasamṛddhaḥ sanreme tatra purottame lakṣmītīrthasya māhātmyāddharmaputro yudhiṣṭhiraḥ
abounding in great wealth, sported there in that best of cities. By the greatness of Lakshmi-tirtha, Dharmaputra Yudhishthira

लेभे सर्वमिदं विप्रा अहो तीर्थस्य वैभवम्। इदं तीर्थं महापुण्यं महा दारिद्यनाशनम्
lebhe sarvamidaṁ viprā aho tīrthasya vaibhavam idaṁ tīrthaṁ mahāpuṇyaṁ mahā dāridyanāśanam
obtained all this, O brahmins - ah, such is the greatness of that tirtha! This tirtha is greatly holy, destroying great poverty,

धनधान्यप्रदं पुंसां महापातकनाशनम्। महानरकसंहर्तृ महादुःखनिवर्तकम्
dhanadhānyapradaṁ puṁsāṁ mahāpātakanāśanam mahānarakasaṁhartṛ mahāduḥkhanivartakam
bestowing wealth and grain upon men, destroying great sin, dispelling great hell, removing great sorrow,
Verse 61 (skanda.3.21.61)
मोक्षदं स्वर्गदं नित्यं महाऋण विमोचनम्। सुकलत्रप्रदं पुंसां सुपुत्रप्रदमेव च
mokṣadaṁ svargadaṁ nityaṁ mahāṛṇa vimocanam sukalatrapradaṁ puṁsāṁ suputrapradameva ca
ever bestowing liberation and heaven, releasing from great debt, bestowing a good wife upon men, and likewise bestowing good sons.
Verse 62 (skanda.3.21.62)
एतत्तीर्थसमं तीर्थं न भूतं न भविष्यति। एतद्वः कथितं विप्रा लक्ष्मीतीर्थस्य वैभवम्
etattīrthasamaṁ tīrthaṁ na bhūtaṁ na bhaviṣyati etadvaḥ kathitaṁ viprā lakṣmītīrthasya vaibhavam
There has been, and there will be, no tirtha equal to this tirtha. Thus has been told to you, O brahmins, the greatness of Lakshmi-tirtha,

दुःस्वप्ननाशनं पुण्यं सर्वाभीष्टप्रसाधकम्। यः पठेदिममध्यायं शृणुते वा सभक्तिकम्
duḥsvapnanāśanaṁ puṇyaṁ sarvābhīṣṭaprasādhakam yaḥ paṭhedimamadhyāyaṁ śṛṇute vā sabhaktikam
holy, destroying bad dreams, accomplishing all desires. Whoever reads this chapter, or hears it with devotion,
Verse 64 (skanda.3.21.64)
धनधान्यसमृद्धः स्यात्स नरो नास्ति संशयः। भुक्त्वेह सकलान्भोगान्देहांते मुक्तिमाप्नुयात्
dhanadhānyasamṛddhaḥ syātsa naro nāsti saṁśayaḥ bhuktveha sakalānbhogāndehāṁte muktimāpnuyāt
shall abound in wealth and grain - that man, there is no doubt. Having enjoyed here all pleasures, at the end of the body he shall attain liberation.
